Evolution
In X12 what is the best way to create a circle stairway and opening. Helping a friend locate the best place to install a new 4' dia 10' floor to floor height circle stair. I have the floor plan as-built roughed out and it appears there is limited locations (probably only one) where one might be installed. He wants to finish his (huge) attic space into living space and currently there is no room for a new staircase. He has a stair from the garage to the attic but he doesn't want to have to go out to the garage to access the attic (New) living space. He wants the existing stair for furniture moving, but the new Circle stair for people and kids access. Perhaps I can draw a 4'X4' rectangle and convert it to a hole in the attic floor and find a 3D object of a circle stair? What other way to create a circle stair opening? The stair tool? CarrieS
I believe there were some circular stair objects in the library in X12. That would be easiest since it is just drop it in there and resize as necessary. Drawing circular stairs with a 4' diameter with the stair tool can be tricky and I wouldn't recommend it unless you had to. For the opening I would create a room of the necessary shape and set the room type to "Open Below".
CharlesVolz
My thoughts: A 4' diameter spiral staircase is not workable. I would suggest 5' min and 6' preferred. If you really do not have any more space to create a decent spiral staircase, I would use ship stairs. Best, Charles
joshuanyambisa
In X12, I’d first create a 4' × 4' floor opening at the proposed location, then use the Stair Tool to create/adjust a spiral or curved stair to fit. If the Stair Tool doesn’t give the exact 4' diameter you need, use a 3D spiral stair object and keep the floor opening separate. Before finalizing, check headroom, stair clearance, framing, and the 10' floor-to-floor height. My thoughts Regards Josh 1
