Living Space calculation

It looks like CA calculates the Living Space value along the outside of the walls at all "included" rooms.  Is there a way to modify they way the program calculates the space?  My local zoning office is now looking at the dimension from the "interior" side of the wall adjacent to the garage, but extending to the outside face of all other walls (house exterior walls).  It strikes me as unnecessarily complicated for what amounts to tens of square feet, but that's where they're at.  I've never actually looked into that calculation before, is there a defined code method that CA is using?  If yes, could someone point to where I could look/show them?

You can control whether or not the living are is calculated based on wall surfaces or main layer in the "general plan defaults".

You can control which rooms are included or not in the room dialog.

Other than that, you can select the outside of a building (aka the "exterior room") and then use the "make living area polyline" to generate the area used so that you can then edit it to go wherever you like.

You can find more info here:
