PitMan71
All. What is the best way to migrate a plan/model to a newer plan template? I have several models that I have drawn that I want to move to my updated template to finish them up. I have some ideas on how I might accomplish this, but wanted to see if I could learn from someone's experience. Thanks in advance.
SusanC
I've done this two different ways: Edit Cut & Edit Paste items from old layout to new. Send to layout - each floorplan, elevation and rendering re-sent. To be honest, I prefer to resend everything to layout. More time consuming, but less risky. Good luck! Alaskan_Son
What is special about your new template that you want to make use of? Reason I ask is that I personally find that its usually easier to move settings over into the existing plan (via Import...) than it is to move all your various 3D objects, cameras views, CAD, and annotation objects into another plan.

Depends on what you want from the template that's not in the plan. If you just want default sets or plan views, just export/import to the old plan. A lot..... elevation views, schedules, default sets, layer sets, text styles, etc. have been added as I have learned how to set all that up. The good news is that anything I would move is a model only.... Essentially I drew and developed the model and didn't go any further from there. I just know as I develop construction drawings from the models I will want all of the things that I have added in my new template. I hope this makes some sense. These are the most problematic in my experience to move from one place to another. Moving the model without also moving it's cameras means any annotations referencing that specific model don't get moved. Same goes for moving cameras without moving the model. If you want to use your new cameras--especially if they have already been linked to a layout--then you're probably better off moving your model. To do so, use Edit Area (All Floors). If you want to stick with your existing cameras--especially if they have already been linked to a layout--, you're probably better off moving settings. 23 minutes ago, PitMan71 said: schedules, default sets, layer sets, text styles, etc. These are all very easy to move to another plan via Export/Import or by simply copying and pasting (schedules). In my experience, cameras are the real kicker. Whenever possible though, given the choice, I prefer to migrate settings over moving the model. Can dimension styles be exported?
