Ways to make more furniture piece type islands with the cabinet tool?

Is there a way to make something like the picture I attached with the cabinet tool? I was messing around with feet and pilasters and couldn't really get it to work. I'm using Premier x16

I did it a little different than Rene.

Note this is time consuming, not simple stuff....

I made a door symbol from parts I had in the library-legs, crosspiece and a slab door. That can be 3 symbols that all go in the front with differing offsets OR one that goes in the center and another that goes in the the side faces. I think that is easier but the picture and first dbx is the first one (I tested the second though)dbx follows.

NOTE that the left and right stiles are set to 0" on both of these.

Since it does return across the entire front I used a loose molding line under the counter. Not knowing what construction you were after I used 3/4 separations and inset. Need some small changes for overlay. 

 

 

Second version with one symbol set in center and another set in each side.

Although this stuff can absolutely be done with a cabinet, I personally suggest just building the top section with one or 2 cabinets and a countertop and then build the leg and shelf framework with solids. 

 

Unless you''re going to be making a lot of very similar cabinets of different sizes, I just personally don't think its worth the time and effort it takes to futz around with cabinet settings and/or creating custom symbols for the parts. It will take forever and/or there are little things that still won't be quite right.

Kind've agree but I also kind've don't. You could get it done faster with solids...but needing to edit it would be a lot slower I would think..what do you think? This did take me all of 6 minutes to make. Doing it with solids maybe 4?

You’re clearly a power user who is in practice with those tools though.  The vast majority of users will have a far bigger differential.  I personally know my way around the cabinet tools better than most and based on how often I’be been drawing custom cabinets lately (not at all) and based on my desire to get it right?  I could pretty easily see myself messing around with that for half an hour or even more and I don’t doubt the average user could waste an hour or 2 and ultimately give up.  
 

Solids on the other hand are a lot easier to get proficient with.  And yes, even when I’m out of practice it would likely take just a few minutes.  
 

i’m not sure I agree about the easy adjustment either. Even after I got the cabinet built, trying to remember exactly which settings were controlling which component can be a huge pain.

 

I do, however, totally see how a super proficient user who uses the tools an awful lot might be able to make good use of it in certain circumstances.

Wow! Thanks so much, @Renerabbitt & @MarkMc! Both of you were very helpful! I ended up kind of using a mix of both of your techniques. It definitely took me longer than 8 minutes! Lol but now that I've got it kind of figured out, it'll go much faster next time. @RenerabbittThanks for the Video! That was really handy to walk through everything!
