Multiple references show in layout

When I go to tools>layout> reference plan files I see multiple plans. Periodically as I am drawing, I "save as" for a backup. Apparently each time I do that CA keeps referencing the previous files. I don't know whether I should or can delete the old ones or should they stay? When I back up entire layout, it includes each of the referenced files. So, I would like to get it down to one which is the current save. Is there some info on this anywhere or a best practices for how to keep just one referenced file?

My advice is to trust Chief's programing. It has sustained my business as is since 1994 just fine.

Try doing " save " rather than " save as "

When you do save as it is creating a new file

When you do a save as, the layout is still linked to the original plan file.  If you want the layout to be linked to the new plan file, then relink to it.
