decorators3
Hi I'm wondering how to reset dimension defaults. I have attached the floor plan showing dimensions. But I'm trying to get window centers and sides to show for location but it only shows when I put my cursor on the window ( and even then does not show the distance from the Window casing to the room ) vanishes when I remove it. I checked my display preferences and dimensions are all showing as active I've gone into the DIMENSIONS default settings to make changes but none of my changes appear when I activate exterior dimensions icon in the tool bar --still does not show- I've been at this going back and forth to default settings but nothing is happening. Any suggestions are welcome What I'm trying to do for the contractor is show the window locations properly
GeneDavis
Unless one is specifying the windows that will actually be used, the convention is to dimension to centers only, and the framer will use that plus the window schedule to build. The schedule is configured to show window unit size and R.O. size. But in Dimension>Dimension>Framing Dimension Defaults, one can set the dimensions to tic from centers, side edges, and R.O. edges. Checking all makes for overly busy drawings. If you've never done it, find a way to be on-site on a job you drew, when the framers mark out a deck for wall building.

These are your Temporary Dimensions and can be disabled , in newer versions Chief shows them even if you have a Dimension in place already. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00089/enabling-temporary-dimensions.html The Auto Exterior Dimensions should be able to do all that for you quite easily.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5426/creating-automatic-exterior-dimensions.html?playlist=92 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5488/dimensioning-basics.html?playlist=92 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00941/changing-what-dimensions-locate.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00658/specifying-which-wall-layer-exterior-dimensions-locate.html M.
