QualicoreHomes
Hello, I am looking at getting a new computer. I browsed around at bit on the chat but its hard to compare. This is what I am looking at: Option A AMD Ryzen 9 3.7GHz - 12 Cores - 24 Threads (Processor) 32GB DDR5 5600MHz (Memory) GeForce RTX 4070 -12BG (Video Card) Option B AMD Ryzen 9 7950x 4.5GHz - 16 Cores - 32 Treads, Liquid Cooled (Processor) 64GB DDR5 5600MHz (Memory) GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 16GB (Video Card) There is about a $750USD difference between the two options. I'm not much into the rendering and currently don't even use the Ray Trace much. To me speed is important as now with my current computer there is quite a bit of waiting involved at times when opening different views or even when executing (simple) program commands. Do you have any suggestions? (good/bad choice, overkill/not fast enough, etc.) Thanks!
rwdozier
I just put this rig into service from the Dell Outlet, good price. Get a salesman to chat with you, they'll negotiate. 32GB (1X32GB) Up to 5600MHz DDR5 UDIMM Non-ECC 2 -1TB PCIe M.2 NVMe Gen 4 Class 40 SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6X (FWIW, to me, the Ti is not worth the price increase for just a bit more performance) 750W L6 Chassis without Optical Drive (Platinum) Core 14th Generation i7-14700 Processor (20 Core, Up to 5.40GHz, 33MB Cache, 65W) Windows 11 Pro Very pleased so far from my previous computer of about 8 years of use. It was from the Dell Outlet as well. Seems it was somewhat similar to yours, see my old specs below.
Gawdzira
This set up absolutely screams. I do do a fair bit of quick RayTracing. I am not spending a lot of time with RT set up but when it comes to quick communication to sell an idea, an RT image gets a faster response from clients. The images attached required about 10 minutes of light adjustments and a few minor texture adjustments. No time spent and the texture features that would make these get towards photo real. This project was not a showpiece by any means, just trying to get someone their minor changes to a rental property out fast. The images were produced on my older system. The newer system listed below puts out 50 samples in a few seconds. I generally get an upgrade/replacement to my system about every 2 years. QualicoreHomes
Thanks for the reply Bob and Alan!! I'm just not sure how to take your comment "this set up absolutely screams" Alan? Scream like: back out of the deal asap or does it scream like screaming tires that perform well? Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated!! Gawdzira
It is very fast and stable. I do occasionally hear expletives in high pitched tones but that is usually when I am driving with Justin Timberlake.
