Hi Doug,

ok, thanks, didn't know we could post the file! First time user.

The file is bigger than 14MB!

Backup the plan file as a zip (right from the CA save menu)  It will be a lot less than 14m then.

You might want to use a room with a floor platform instead of a landing in this case.  In general, I use landings in between stair sections and then floor platforms for where the stair starts or ends.  Regardless, if you need to move a landing up or down you can open the dialog and set the landing height to whatever you want.

For more detailed help, you should probably post the plan.

Hi Doug,

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer and solve my problem, much appreciated!

Just to put you in context, it's a townhouse remodeling, a complete renovation of the 2nd floor.

I'm transitioning from AutoCAD to Chief! It's quite a challenge but a good one I think!

Hi Doug,

Hope you are doing well.

I'm having issues with my split level landing.

It's a bungalow and the entrance is at level 0, there is 5 stairs going up to the main floor and 8 stairs going down to the basement.

The landing ceiling height is at 11'-4", on the main floor ceiling height is 7'-11" and the basement height is 8'-3".

Do I need to define the ceiling height of the staircase by adding a wall to create a room specification?

Hope you can help me out!

Thank you,

Valdyne

CA uses floor and ceiling elevations to establish the way the model is developed-

This also dictates where things like stairs and roofs are created.

IMO, if you take the time to set up your model parameters correctly, the model, and all of its components, will usually be generated accurately

Not for foundation and floor above walls for split level designs

In my experience, while certain individual areas can be manipulated, I find I get a much more consistent model generation if my structure defaults for any given project are accurate before I get started.

Just my opinion I guess ;)

And that is a very good opinion!

I think you are trying to do it the hard way.  You have one stair section on the foundation floor and then your landing and other stair section on the first floor.  I don't think these are going to work automatically the way you want.

Try just drawing your stairs and landing on the foundation.  Then just create one open below room on the first floor above them.  This should just work without all of the fuss.

This tech article that I posted in your other thread goes through the process:

I removed a few walls that were in the way, and made the area between the landing floor and main floor open to below.  The stair widths are adjusted to be 1/2 the distance between walls either side of the lading walls, minus 4 1/2"  The upper stair railing is generated with a railing wall.
