JKEdmo
Hello, I have an exterior siding wall: I split it into two halves and made the upper segment invisible: Question - is there a way to prevent the wall layers from wrapping the end of the visible segment? (I tried the Edit Wall Layer Extents tool but with no success...) Basically, I want to get rid of that siding wrap between the visible wall and a 3D solid I have defined for a fireplace shown below: Thanks again, Jim
rgardner
Try a perpendicular room divider. btw why use a solid for the fireplace rather than actual walls?
glennw
The door definition will wrap the exterior layers. You can move the Exterior Layers into the Main Layers to do what you want, but this may cause problems else where. You could minimise those problems by using the wall definition in just this one area like this:
JKEdmo
Good morning -- Thank you for your replies. 10 hours ago, rgardner said: btw why use a solid for the fireplace rather than actual walls? Ryan, Chief has a tutorial video that suggests this method. The fireplace I'm modeling is monolithic masonry, so I thought a 3D solid would be a good way of doing it. Should I just model with 8" masonry walls? How do people usually model solid masonry chimneys? 10 hours ago, glennw said: The door definition will wrap the exterior layers. Glenn, not sure if I fully understand, but to clarify I did not place a door opening. Instead, I broke the wall where the chimney / fireplace occurs. This is to reflect the as-built condition of this midcentury house: Thanks again for looking at this. Jim

If you get in the habit of modeling in chief exactly as it is built you will have less frustrations. If it is a freestanding 4" brick wall then use a wall with that configuration. Place a doorway at the opening and insert a fireplace symbol or you can model it more accurately with a small room in there depending on what you are going for. Quote The door definition will wrap the exterior layers. That should say "wall definition" not "door definition". I was talking about the various wall definition layers and should read: "The wall definition will wrap the exterior wall definition layers. You can move the Exterior Layers into the Main Layers to do what you want, but this may cause problems else where." Does that make sense now?
