MP-Bloomington
Hello, I want to extend the front roof to include the front porch. I would appreciate any ideas or suggested tutorials to help me get started. Thanks, Michael
rlackore
Turn on the Roof Baselines layer, select the Roof Plane, then perform a point-to-point move from the Roof Baseline to the porch railing wall. Then you can clean up all your roof intersections.
MP-Bloomington
I had tried that earlier, I think I need to build a beam over the porch railing at the top plate level to put the roof on. As it sits, it tries to put the roof on the top of the railing. I unfortunately do not see how to build the beam over the railing??
Chopsaw
Looks like a "Post to Beam" railing style might work for you there. Set the beam size in the Rails tab of the Railing DBX with the Rail Profile Drop down.
MP-Bloomington
The post and beam works perfectly, I can see it in the camera exactly as it should be. I used the auto draw for the roof and then turned it off and manually moved the roof to the beam, unfortunately I am still missing the setting to get the roof to actually sit on the new beam??? Chopsaw
Did you move the roof edge or the base line as Robert suggested ? Move the baseline and the elevation should maintain itself.
MP-Bloomington
When I highlighted the roof section I moved the red indicator. I am guessing this is the roof edge and not the base line. How do you access the base line settings?? M
Chopsaw
You will need to turn on the "Roofs, Baselines" layer and make sure it is unlocked. It will appear as a dashed line with a right angled hash line pointing up the roof and is normally at the outside edge of the wall plate. It will also show when the roof plane is highlighted when the layer is on.

Kbird1
2 hours ago, solver said: Rebuild the roof using the auto roof builder. Make sure the porch has Roof Over This Room checked. Set the Roof Pitch in the Railing's Roof Tab , set the Porch pitch to desired pitch 3/12? 4/12 and then set the Upper Pitch set to the main Roof Pitch with "in from Baseline set to the depth of the Porch...that should be all that is needed.
