What you might want to do is explore other markets besides new residential. Some of the markets that I have been into: As builts. This is for contractors that must deliever drawings at the finish of a project. Look for who was awarded the contract for jobs, city, state, etc. Investors that own commercial property that need to market their property. As builts and 3D to show/advertise etc. I joined the remodelers council at the Home Builders and picked up a lot of work. Real estate investors clubs are good. People selling there condo that market it themselves and need an as built to advertise. Then there is the dark side of the force......I have alot of attorneys that need drawings. Some need a drawing of an intersection with location of cars in an accident or as built of house in litigation.

Florida is not far behind Cal. The cover sheet must have the minmum see attached. Also for what it is worth the product installation details have to be incorporated into the plans. Some might find it interesting to check out "Florida Approved Products" 24 x 36 layout-Layout.pdf

Check this out: When I change the "Pattern" to custom it shows SPF, but if I choose "material type", framing in the pattern I get fir. What gives with this? I thought choosing framing was the correct thing.

Thanks Joey. Yes I made a material (#2 SPF) and saved it in my user library and changed the changes. Still it list the studs as fir. Also the siding has the #2 SPF?????????? The material was selected as framing and you would think it would be listed under F1 and not GN1. Any ideas?

I made a wall type with #2 SPF for the framing. When I build the material list it shows fir framing and when I open the components of the wall it shows #2 SPF. Is this normal? I was thinking that the materials list would reflect the components also in wall types I changed the framing to #2 SPF.

Let me try to understand: You drew a plan and have changed it 6 times. You want a slab on grade and then build a stem wall with floor joist. Draw the house walls first then build foundation (stem wall). Add slab later.

Would the "Cad default patterns" have anything to do with this? I noticed this in the layout box "layer display options" when I open it up. These are just cross sections saved in the cad detail of the plan.

Thanks Richard.......I read all the post from the link you posted. I use the PDF that comes with CA.

I have CA X8. When I look at the layout in CA I see no problem. When I look at it in PDF it looks the same as in CA.

Some of my cad details look as if they have a mask over them (not all). When I send them to layout they look ok but when I make a PDF and send them to the printer they look as if they have a mask over them. I have been into the DBX on all the line weights, and appearence etc and can find nothing that would make it lok this way. Any ideas?

Does your macro package include the shingles required for starters, ridge or cap? It would be great if it did. I like what you have done with the macro.

Thanks for the info Joe. The devil is in the details. I seat down with my clients and try to bring them up to speed on how important details are.

The way I have built this type of detail is to extend a slab out what ever distance required BUT I drop the slab 2" from the floor slab (just in case a leak should develop in the veneer). I then frame the detail the stone will go over. Use pressure treated if you are closer than 8" from ground. As far as detail in CA I have tried the roof build with some success.

Thanks everyone. I wish the instruction manual had informed me of this. It would seem more intutive for the progam to simply overwrite the updated doc without changing to a new file.

I checked the (save in plan) box and unchecked the box. It made no difference.

Yes that is what I did. My question still stands: Why won't CA recognize the changed document?

I find this interesting and fustrating. I need to submit the manufacturer's installation details with the plans. So I down load the sheets as PDF's and import them into the layout. If I should change anything on the PDF and save it as a PDF, CA will still import the old PDF even though I changed the info on the PDF. In Florida we must fill out the products we will use for the exterior and they give you a sheet that must be submitted with the plans. My client changed his mind and I made the product change and saved it. I went to reimport it and CA still uses the old file that does not exist. The only way I could correct this is by giving the new PDF a new name altogether. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Thanks for any help

This got me to thinking.....I tried to make an elevator door. Always enjoy the challenge. I made this with sliders on a 2" interior wall and then had line color white.

Thanks Joe.......I tried all the defaults and to no avail. What I have found out is the 3D elevations have the arrow filled in, great, but if you select the cross section/elevation view it will not fill eventhough there is a DBX with a "fill" box checked. Is this a bug? or is supposed to be that way? Try it and see.

The arrow on my cross section will not fill. Is there something else other than check "fill" in the dbx?

Thanks..............I had been selecting from the library. When I pasted from the library it gives you a resizing box but if you try to widen it the cloud breaks up into sections. Why do they give you that option if it does not work?

I pasted it direct from the library. Should I do something else?
