  1. I remember there was a thread about this issue - related to the size of the building. Since this is a commercial building Chief doesn't really spend the time fixing things like this. If I remember correctly Michael showed how this is a real issue with larger structures (and/or terrain). Added: Looking back for that thread I can't find it, but I do see some notes that this problem was supposed to be fixed in an update. There is a chance it crept back into X10. if Michael sees this thread he will be able to give you a quick answer, as I think he even did a video to show.
  2. I agree with Michael. Its more trouble than they are worth getting all the settings right. I suppose the exception to this may be if you spend time developing something you can use over and over.
  3. Good to know this is a bug. I guess we should submit it.
  4. Not sure why this is a problem for me in X10 but i can no longer tab-enter a wall value without the angle messing up things. Does anyone have a suggestion? THanks
  5. Thanks Micheal - although this doesn't seem to come up for me. If you notice the 1st image below (railing 2) then you see the railing I am trying to use in the library, and when I use the drop-down the railing isn't present apart from the generic type. Going above the upper rail (pic railing1) then you see the same rail selected - but I dont have an option for the one I want...both in the library and in the file.
  6. Does anyone know how to replace an existing wall in a plan with one in the library? I could swear that was possible but I don't see the method. Declaimer - perhaps I am just searching the wrong phrase, but I did try to find the answer to this on my own and couldn't. I am searching "replace wall from library" and "switch wall from library" and I can't seem to find the answer.
  7. That was a cool video. What is interesting is game developers are trying to get photo-realistic ray tracing on the fly at 60+ FPS and here in Chief it takes hours of ray trace time per 1 frame.
  8. Fully agree with Larry here. It can be more work than its worth.
  9. Worked like a charm - i can't thank you enough that was driving me crazy and i thought i might have to use p-solids.
  10. I'm working on plans with a large gable fascia/barge, but Chief is clipping the end off to flatten it out where there is an intersection to the corresponding "eave" fascia. Here is an example.
  11. Ill mess with this some more - my initial try i couldn't get it to work but i may be missing something.
  12. Thanks Perry - that works!
  13. As a reference here is the video of the operation i am doing - I just can't seem to control the gable end to set a dutch style. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/710/generating-a-roof-over-an-l-shaped-house-with-gable-ends.html
  14. I have an "L" shaped home that i want a dutch hip/gable condition on the side i am using the gable line feature but it just reverts to a normal gable....this is even though the other gables on the home have a dutch hip/gable set on them. Is there a way to control that gable line?
  15. I know each floor references its own layers - and what is "on" (rather displayed) that layer - but is there a way to have items on a layer be visible across all floors?
  16. I dont understand why the roof over that section can't be selected - and yet nothing is locked. edit Never mind, i see you are using auto dutch gable settings. Just make each side have the same baseline height - right now they are different.
  17. Does anyone know how to mix this realistic style and illustration?
  18. I always hear from Chief that they have limited resources and do what they can with those resources. This is understandable, but if you aren't at least keeping up with what other BIM/CAD packages are doing then at some point you'll simply become antiquated. For each release I get of Vectorworks the gap in residential focused BIM is becoming smaller and smaller and overall there are MANY more updates each year than what Chief is giving us. I've had several people on the forums reach out to me in the last year to ask what i think about other apps like Vectorworks - since they are finally looking to change from Chief. I didn't see that happening to much 2 years ago. All that said, I am sure Chief is sitting back comparing their sales to people they lose and must be OK with that differential.
  19. Chief is running an advertisement in Fine Home building that contains a rendering said to have been done in the app. However, I can't seem to duplicate its effects of being almost a cross between a ray-trace and artistic visual. I know some might look at this and assume its easy to do, but there are some surprisingly subtle details/visuals I can't replicate in Chief. Does anyone have an idea how this was done? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/company/pressgraphics/magazine-ads/home-design.html
  20. Good idea - thanks.
  21. Does anyone know why room dividers often (id say more often than not in my situations) revert to being invisible walls of the same thickness as the default interior wall style? Its like the room divider tool doesn't even actually work.
  22. Part of me likes that more than a raytrace - nice job.
