Lew is correct! I used Xactimate for 8 years but that is for construction estimating and there are many databases.

Insurance Companies are good at not paying for what they don't owe. So "Like Kind" would technically mean to draw an "As Built" for permitting. Code upgrade coverage can come into play. Your best bet may be to work directly with the insurance adjuster for the owner and no need to get too detailed. They are all different and it is good to have a rapport with them. Charge a fair price and don't expect to charge for extras. Insurance companies are not cheap and they want to expedite the repairs especially if you have been retained. Just be fair to yourself.

Does the Owner have Insurance? If so the Bank just disperses what is approved/paid by the Insurance Company.

I don't find that happening very often. If it does I move it to snap grid. I do find that chief behavior annoying when it moves the grid increment and not to the grid.

I think that was the main point. But I see your point if you work in the manner you do. I have been of the school that designing to that level of accuracy "1/8" is not realistic from a build standpoint. So when placing a toilet I would allow a little extra room and only be concerned with framing dimensions. The framer will be off a little, then the plumber, and so on. No problem with a little wiggle room. As a builder I would moan about any plan dimensions smaller than a 1/2" with a few exceptions or good reason. Vertically floor to ceiling I drop the 1/8 and go with 97, 109, 121, and so on. I have cut my share of stair stringers and know how to use that extra 1/8" or whatever it becomes when I layout my cuts. If I were designing consumer products then I would work to the level of accuracy of manufacturing. Not saying you are doing anything wrong if you are being "accurate". I just think you are working harder than you need to. Too often I have seen others with snaps turned off and no accuracy whatsoever.

Have to agree with KKirsch. Should always work to snap grid. Make it the size you need, usually 1/2 or 1 inch. That is drafting 101. Anyone who does not work in this manner is a sloppy drafter (no offense intended). Are there lots of sloppy drafters out there? Yep!

Holy C, that should scream! Sure would with some of my other apps.

My experience has been similar Larry. My jobs have gotten up to 500,000 triangles and the slowdown becomes noticeable. I agree if you do enough jobs you should chase the hardware upgrades. I think the most benefit is the number of CPU cores to crunch those numbers with all that rebuilding that seems redundant. So with 8 or more cores things should be more snappy. Until Chief makes use of CUDA processing an average GPU should be fine. I believe the claim about undo. I would guess the program has been modernized to track the changes better. Looking forward to the day when Chief can eliminate that 5 second lag you spoke of. That would be a real time saver.

Hmm, all I can find is "Look for speed improvements with shadows on, Watercolor and Line Drawing." Also, something about 3D navigation being faster. Don't think a file the size of Shane's with almost 5 million triangles is going to be workable in any case. Are you saying you find his file workable in X9 with your super computer? I think I misunderstood you.

Can't help but wonder if Chief needs a "layer isolate" command among others? I get really tired of switching to "working layer sets".

I've just always wondered why a product called Chief Architect doesn't have an actual Architect on staff. I won't bore you with all my suggestions but will say that I wish I could Mary Revit Building functionality with Chief interior design strengths. You do not see many companies hiring or schools teaching this app. That is the market I think is getting missed?

The company would have to choose the best candidate. Then put them in charge and see what the industry thinks. Let the customers decide.

If the "right" Architect had been on staff all these years I have no doubt the software would look and function much differently and for the better. Of course that leader would need to have final decision making authority.

Thanks Michael! Never understood why dbx input should be different than the display. Seems like there are a handful of basic functions that I continually have to relearn. The ones that I don't use often. When solved I say to myself "that doesn't make any sense" and move on. Then repeat. Déjà vu

How do we get the auto labels to show in decimal feet? How do we get the bearing to display correctly in all instances? Do we have to manually add labels to get conventional format?

I Agree! The hangup when I have tried was with the hardware lock or entering serial number for software lock. Chief should at least make these two work on Linux (Ubuntu) and let us experiment under "Wine" just for grins.
