  1. Thanks to everyone! I'm back to having the half wall and railings show in 3D. This is a huge file because it has a very large Terrain that is heavily sloped both front to rear and side to side. Apparently, when I turned off Terrain in 3D view, I accidently also turned off Walls, Rails as I closed the DBX. When I took Kilgore's advice and looked in the 3D mode, I found the Layer was in fact OFF. So this was clearly USER ERROR. I will have to figure out what's up with WinZip. I tried emailing the zipped file to myself and got the error message that the file was too large. So, maybe all that Terrain data is making the file to large even zipped. I will do a save-as and delete the terrain and see what I get in a little while. Many sincere thanks to all that helped.

  3. OK, I got the Zip file (reboot) Now, can't attach it to the comment. Thank in advance for comments.
  4. Joe, Appreciate your trying to help without the full file. I have updated - 2 days ago. You raised a good question, however about the Layer. This home is going on a highly sloped lot and has railing around the exterior Porch. You caused me to check that and I found that it isn't showing either. Here are addt'l screen shots. Still scratching my head about WinZip. Again, Thank You for taking your time.
  5. I don't know what's up here. I placed a Half Wall (Railing) 42" H behind the Blue Sofa - but it doesn't show up. It did cut a hole in the floor, though. After I took the screen shots, I went to zip the file and got this error message from WinZip. Appreciate your thoughts. I did try closing CA and re-opening and had the same results. I have not rebooted.
  6. I would also like to see us be able to add Room Names to the existing list. There are too many regional differences for 1 default set to cover everyones vernacular. Porch/Lania. Entry/Foyer. Too many to list.
  7. David, great to hear that your lovely daughter is still fighting. Thank you for your generosity, too.
  8. KBird, you are absolutely right, there IS an option to convert ALB's. Thank you for graciously reminding me. I guess it was a senior moment or heat reaction. The new Round Skylights (Solar Tubes, Sun Tunnels) are in the Bonus library under Energy Sources and I searched using the wrong names. They seem to work very well.
  9. Lew: I don't have a way to convert ALB files on this machine. There is a Round Skylight symbol in the old Chieftalk, but I don't have anything older than CA14 installed. Doggies: Thanks for searching your library. I have emailed Jay Palmer requesting that he check to see if I have already purchased this symbol. Over the years I have bought many of Jays libraries and always pleased. Thanks again!
  10. I thought that I saw a symbol for round skylights. I have searched my library, this forum and the old Chieftalk. I found threads from 2006 in the old ChiefTalk, but that was 8 years ago! There's a simple way to do this in CA X6 - right? I must be missing the symbol, appreciate your help. Thanks in advance,
  11. Thanks to all for this informative thread. Sometimes, when designing to capture an amenity view on highly sloped terrain, we need to model the next couple of lower slope lots, the neighbors' trees, and building heights plus natural lighting considerations. When doing a 3D overview, we start from outer space. Zooming in shows us the moisture barrier through the siding. I just tell the customer to focus on what we are trying to ascertain - can we develop a floorplan that lives the way you live, and gives you a fabulous view. Sometimes, the foundation can look like the Great Wall of China, so this gives them something to think about on the need to hire a Landscape Architect of Designer. I have to do this to get us to a G0-No Go decision. If it's a Go, then I parse back the terrain and get them to a geotech engineer for the Great Wall of China. I have my camera clipping at 500"
  12. Ian, Thanks for this post. It explains ALOT. My system is running X6 so slowly that it is reminiscent of X3's library. Like yourself I have a lot of legacy symbols from old versions of CA and many from Jay Palmer and other developers. I ALWAYS start out with the Error message that a material can't be found, and I ALWAYS click Don't show me this again, and Cancel. After reading and rereading your explanation, I guess that I will just always have a slow system. The amount of time that it would take to check thousands of symbols would be measured in weeks or months. Dang!
  13. is it possible that a filter was accidently turned on? Happened to me.
  14. I downloaded Allen Browns Home from the Chat room area. When I tried to open it the following error message appeared. Could not get the program to stop using Task Manager. No choice but to reboot. I have not experienced this before. User error?
  15. Very Nice. May I ask your settings on the glass?
  16. I had the Chrome browser open and no other programs running when I started CA X6 and got this. Rebooted and all OK
  17. Thank you for sharing these, much appreciated!
