  1. Micheal,

I have a question and without a lot of silly answers from others I thougtht I would just ask you since you are the Guru in my eyes.  I just got feedback from the planning dept. on a project that I am working on and it brought up a question that I have not had a chance to make this type of change in CA as of yet.  I have created a floor plan for an attached guest house but not I need to reflect the plan so the entrance is on the opposite side.  How do I take everything that I have on the addition and flip it without doing the whole plan itself?  I am at a loss as I have the perfect plan just want to flip the addition.

Thanks for any help you can give.

    Chris

Hey Chris, I haven’t had to do that myself, but I’m thinking your best bet is to very carefully draw a polyline that perfectly encloses just the addition, select the polyline and then WITH THE POLYLINE SELECTED, activate the appropriate Edit Area tool and copy, reflect, and then optionally paste/hold position to replace the original stuff (might be best to carefully delete that stuff one item at a time just to be safe).  Will probably still require some cleanup though.

Thanks Michael.  What I did is similar.  I ended up turning all the layers off except for the main layer walls and then converting it to a cad detail and flipping it so I have the same wall layout.  I then deleted all my walls of the addition and just retraced them over the cad detail.  I could not figure any other way then that.  Still saved me some time but looks as if I have other problems none related to Chief...  Thanks again for your answer as you are the GoTo Guru.

  2. Ok, if all else fails, just delete it from the layout and resend it again and it seem to have fixed the problem.
  3. The layers set seems to be no different than all my other plans.
  4. I have a client who hired me to finish his plan that he did in home designer(not something I normally do but he was close and I didn't have to commute) anyway, when I print the line weights are huge only on the floor plan. All my other sheets come out just fine. Can't figure out why this sheet is having so much difficulty. My text looks fine but all other line weights and line types are off. Atkinson NFP.pdf

  6. Well after much to do this is what I have come up with. I hate to say it but I am getting tire of this business and the bureaucratic BS that I have to put up with in the building departments and the third party Plan Checkers. I work in an area with many jurisdictions and no city is the same but you would think that they could all collaborate when it comes to the Residential Code. Sometimes I just want to reach through the phone and grab them and shake them. Enough already and let us do our job. lyon ISO GAS plan_opt.pdf
  7. Yup... but I think I was trying to be polite and not cuss anymore than I already have.
  8. I guess I'm just complaining because I am tired of all the additional requirements that I have to do and my clients asking why is this costing me so much. I live in the Bay Area and we have some of the strongest code requirements along with LA and Miami. So I figure if you can live here you are going to you can afford to pay my fees.
  9. Thank you everyone for your responses. Personally, I don't think this should be a part of the submittal set and that the plumbing company on site should be the responsible party. But I must do what I must do to get the permit for my clients.
  10. Has anyone created an isometric gas plan layout in Chief. I am getting more and more comments from the cities to provide an isometric gas line plan and have not come up with a good way to create one. I think it is just silly that I have to do one in the first place because I would just be guessing on the line sizes anyway and I am sure that the plumber will do it his way anyhow. Still, I am not sure if I should just be doing a 3D of the house with a molding polyline. Just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts or is you guys have had to provide one.
  11. I too am dealing with the Lag on my Desktop. I am making small changes like editing text and I find the little circle spinning for up to 30 sec for it to make the edit at times. This has only happened just recently after the latest update and I am not sure what is going on as it is very frustrating. I am loosing valuable time sitting and watching this little circle and now having to come on here and see that others are having the same issue.

  13. See it is the little things like this that help so much. I had no idea you could even reset the defaults under the edit menu.
  14. Ok, I knew that. And once I got my template back from my old drive, I opened it up and saved as my default. Thanks for helping with my brain fart @Chopsaw
  15. I know that I have seen this before but somehow I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am trying to bind my logo to my titleblock so it shows up every time and does not have to go looking for it. I was at one of the Chief seminars and we had quickly gone over this and now I seem to have forgotten how. Just one of those things that if you don't do it enough, You call on help from other users. The main reason for asking is my hard drives have failed and I need to replace them and we all know that when that happens it can be days worth of time lost trying to reinstall all your programs and getting setup once again just the way you had it. Well that is my situation and it could not have come at a worse time as I am so darn busy. Thanks for any help.
  16. I am wondering if there is an easy way to change the height of a current 2nd floor level. During my initial measurement of an existing home, I thought the floor joists were 2X12's but in actuality they are 2X10's. Now after discovering this during the construction process I need to make a few corrections but without the correct floor height it is making it challenging. My question to you all is, is there and easy way to change the height of the second floor all at once without having to go into each room and change the floor level?
  17. Johnny & Michael, This is exactly what I was talking about. How do we do this in Chief or is it even possible?
  18. Well this has probably been posted before but I can't seen to find any information on it. I have several large general notes that I add to my plans but I can't seem to figure out a way that I can have them with several columns instead of just top to bottom. I would like to have someway to create a numbered notes that I could place on my sheet so it could be with several columns to fit in a space and numbered properly. Right not I am having to have several rich text and place them side by side. Does anybody have any idea of how to do this or is this something that was missed by Chief.
  19. Well that just sucks... Looks like I am going to have to do a section view and then block out all the framing that I don't want to show.
  20. I am trying to do some interior elevations and I have a room with a vaulted ceiling. When I do a wall elevation it is only giving me the lower half of the room and not including any of the vaulted portion. Am I doing something wrong or does Chief not acknowledge the upper portion for wall elevations?
  21. Did you do this with Chief or Blender Render?
  22. @mrscott I am just looking at your workstation specs... Are you in the goverment? That is some system with a dual Xeon cpu. If I may ask what did you pay for that and do you actually use all that power in Chief. I mean I can run Chief pretty well but I can only imagine.
  23. Thank you all for your help in answering my questions. I have finally made the change that AI was looking for and with some help from http://davidmichaeldesigns.com/ and his never ending list of videos on YouTube. This one for example was what I was trying to do in the beginning and knew I had seen it somewhere. Here is his video
  24. I've looked at the Stair DBX 100 times and I don't know how I missed that. Thanks again.
  25. Thanks Chopsaw, looks like I got the newels taken care of it is just a matter of making that wall go all the way to the ceiling and covering up the post and eliminating the rail from the post on back. Also the main topic is that the tailing is not showing up on my plan view. I have the stairs, rails and ramps layer on but somehow the railing on the plan does not show up.
