  1. @solver Thanks Eric for the link (Your channel?... I subscribed anyway ) . This is how I currently make my icons, but they don't pop as much as the ones in chief.
  2. Thanks everyone, great suggestions and I will try them all!! @para-CADThanks for the dropbox link and all the icons. @RenerabbittI appreciate your offer to do them for me, and I value your time, so its better that I learn to do it for myself. I searched for an online generator, like your mentioned, but none, I could find are out there. Question.... has anyone been able to draw the icons in a Chief cad detail and export them somehow? -Charles
  3. What is the best way to create a custom library icon image in the style that chief uses for their cabinets? The automatic button icon choices are ok, but dont really match the standard graphic that chief has. Thanks, Charles
  4. I also posted this on Dan Baumans Friday facebook live Q&A and they said the same thing....
  5. @solver, thanks for the reminder I added my system info to my signature (but in case it doesnt show up...X-14, Windows 10, PC Dell Alienware Aurora R6, Desktop, 7th Generation Intel Core i7) I am trying something new, doing my as builts in one drawing and referencing it in the renovation set which is why I would like to pull dimensions for a referenced drawing. Thanks, Charles
  6. Is there a way to dimension to a reference drawing without using a point marker? Thanks
  7. Nice job David! Were the colored pencil sketches also done in Lumion?
  8. Hey @para-CAD.... did you know they have a 30 day money back guarantee? Not sure when you bought it, but it might be worth looking into. I have already started the return process.
  9. I just purchased the Moasure tool and gave it a run through its paces measuring the inside of my living room, several times! It takes a little getting used to, but it does get the general shape of the room. You really have to think about how you will move around the room beforehand. The new app does have a wall mode, but the error rate is quite high. For example, an 8’ wall was off by 1”. As @mborean said, it is too finicky for real-world use and, in my opinion, not worth the, now, $399 price.
  10. Besides the style palettes in the bonus library, has anyone found other libraries out there? Maybe people willing to share their palettes? Thanks, Charles
  11. Thanks Chopsaw, I did'nt think it could be done (easily), but I though I would ask. I appreciate your response
  12. I'm trying to match existing drawings that show a hatch pattern on the door slab (without using a hatched cad rectangle)? Thanks, Charles
  13. Thanks Chopsaw but group select has no option to "use layer for text style" only way I have found, so far, is to redo the text.
  14. It's easy to convert "text" to "rich text" automagically..... But what about the reverse, convert "rich text" to "text". Why.... I want the layer set to control my text style. Thanks!
  15. I agree manipulating terrains in Chief is frustrating! Here in Hawaii, we have challenging mountainous regions and I wish they would use a terrain mesh that could be directly manipulated rather than all the workarounds we have to endure......
  16. Guys you are right... I forgot that my template has a CAD detail drawings with schedules pre populated. THANKS SO MUCH
  17. Hello All... I get double callouts in my floor plan for the electrical symbols. Here is my schedule dbx. I'm at "wits end" trying to figure out how to only show the schedule number in plan, circle callout, and hide the symbol number, oblong callout. Thanks!
  18. I agree on the font... anyone have an idea what it is?
  19. Thanks Chopsaw this does the trick! For others in the future that may happen across this post, these are the steps to achieve what Chopsaw describes. Select the symbol to move and open the symbol specification. Change the X offset to whatever makes sense, here its 8". This is the result. Move the symbol over the amount you input, again 8" The final result. Hope this helps others.
  20. When stacking outlets or switches in elevation, the 2d plan symbols also stack Usually the electrician only uses the plan, not the elevation when doing his work and can easily miss this. Any way, other than creating a custom 2d block for each instance, of separating the 2d from the 3d object or is this wishful thinking?
  21. I tried the "S" text line with unsatisfactory results. Since this thread was from 2014 has anyone figured out how to draw curved continuous insulation? Thanks, Charles
  22. https://www.chiefexpertsacademy.com Dan does not transfer the info directly into chief. He takes a notepad, measures the room while noting the measurements, then transfers it into chief in the field. This is my new go-to method also after many frustrating tries using the direct input. Do you do a whole house in room planner? My experience doing this has led to poor results with the exterior and interior dimensions never matching. Room Planner only allows you to dimension the interior walls directly unless I have missed something. I'd love to know how you do it for a whole house!! Thanks, Charles
  23. I use Leica lasers with “some” success. It, for me, is more trouble than its worth trying to transfer the dimensions directly from the laser to Chief. I did a video about a year ago showing what I learned. Dan Bauman is a big proponent of taking laptops in the field and you may want to search Chieftalk and Google for some of his methods. Good Luck! -Charles
