  1. It be nice to show a build sequence video to cut down on the amount of drawing's and production schedules, eventually needing none as more of the 2D camera views go to 3D in BIMS. Be a great way to get more accurate bids and communicate with trades, reduce errors. Most guys doing bids have computers to watch vids. I'd even supply my trades tablets if I could cut down on drawing time. I think I am going to create my own BIMS, to monitor progress. I want video for that and also I want to put one in my model home so I don't have to rely on Rel Estate agents to miscommunicate why my builds are better and the difference is complex when you get into net zero or positive designs. Some that work sub-division sales have conflict of interest between builders. Alot do not follow or want to learn new designs so can not be trusted. So the video take all this out of the equation. I'm sure all these have an ability to point the CAM at yourself and talk. Of course having a pretty video for new clients be nice. I am needing more than short videos, I'm thinking 30 minutes min.
  2. Rod good points. Still not clear what path to take. Are you saying keep our wallets in our pockets until year end? Where are we at with paperless video production planning & scheduling?
  3. So what is the Guru recommendation to the Newbie conclusions here that wants pro quality videos to present to clients and put on a web page? Since time is money it does not make sense to get a cheap or free software then spend more time on the learning curve.
  4. Good idea...I keep launching in and out of the building
  5. Serial no? I got rid of the Alienware in my sig since it would not fire up two video ports after sleeping to dual monitors, so Im beta testing this now....no SSD for now, with 8 doing well so far: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-12gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-silver-copper-black/4453403.p?id=1219749489377&skuId=4453403 We had to make some changes to the video card to get the monitors resurrected from the dead
  6. If I been running beta whats the best way to make sure I have the updated public release without having to reinstall all my catalogs? EDIT: Never mind I found it.
  7. I been traveling and need to get caught up. It appears X8 has been officially released few days ago. How do I update what I have or will it auto update? I don't see an update link in my digital locker and I don't want to download all those PITA catalogs after a reinstall.
  8. Is it just me when I try and back-up an X8 plan I get alot of missing materials that are working fine in model. I migrated this over as an X7 plan then filed it to X8. Am I not backing it up right?
  9. That's nuts! So if I can make $150/hr with CA that's ~ 300,000/yr....Is that the average salary of a designer? That is higher than a degree engineer. Lew like your system, thanks!
  10. Question: My bread and butter right now comes from Aerospace 9-5 until my companies design firm is more profitable. I just completed my first spec and am offering it to the public at a home show. I was being asked yesterday about doing customs or modifying my spec. I let them know there would be fees. I can get a feel for the hours it should take since I'm thinking most on this thread are better than average. I am still in a moderate learning curve so I would not want to pass that cost onto my client. I have no idea what to charge though. Is anyone willing to give me a ball park per SF sounds like the best vs hours. If need be shoot me a PM I'd appreciate it. I'm in KS where prices may be lower, I got no idea about home designs, but is in most cases we are a lower cost of living here with house prices around $150,000 on average. My first home is listing @ $395,000, high, above that my client base would in the 33% of population here.
  11. PICs. I'm a Natural Home Energy Efficient Architect and Builder, sorry Chief the bag of hemp and casting has been a bigger attention grabber
  12. X2 what Larry and Graham said. I'm trying to put a hole in truss ceiling platform for a tray per this video: https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?search=tray+ceiling When I get to trying to add a crown molding in from the library CA stops responding twice now and I have to shut it down, even after a reboot and starting over.
  13. Michael, my clipping is set to 24" and I have a brand new strong video card noted in my sig. What I see is the zoom distance that a scroll responds to is too large and fast in full perspective overview. To get a feel for what I am talking about scroll enough to see one incremental motion and note the distance of travel and how smooth it is from point A-to-B. If I get inside a building with a full camera it is noticeable smoother BUT when I back off the wheel the camera keeps zooming sometimes. Do the same test as before. I did not notice that in 7 and I have only used it and 8. I think the scroll distance needs to be shorter and smoother and more controllable in it's flight path for lack of a better description. I notice a big difference with the 3D mouse but there I have more speed setting's to adjust.
  14. Curt, and everyone thank you so much for the last minute help that is the kind of support and teaming that makes CA so great! I am out of time but learned and will learn more later. I been working with Yusuf whom is a great teacher, even though we are opposites sides of the worId, so a special thank you to him.... I emailed you the backed up plan but got no idea why I got an error that alot of files are missing when I backed it up to ZIP? Chief and my homes are going to make a large debut starting tomorrow at the Wichita, KS Home Show in the US and I hope to get many sales It is my first model I am VERY pleased even if I don't get the trays and ray traces I had hope for. It has been quite a challenge. Off to the booth to get set up Thanks again everyone and wish me luck!
  15. I'm thinking you are right, I just tried to "raise my ceiling" per that video and it did not work. I would have to start the whole dang headache truss thang again, notta right now the only thing that will raise is my blood pressure
  16. Eric, you are the man! How did you do that? Is that my model? Fill in behind the crown? Drywall the entire box. I can't see whats going on to well with all the white in your pic. The area I am wanting to do it in is not the vault, it is the flat ceiling to the rear of the single car garage.
  17. Curt, I see. What I thought, it is not as easy with trusses I should have made ceiling planes in those areas before I created them. It appears the videos I was watching had to do with ceiling joist that created the ceiling planes and moldings automatically from polylines. I was heading down the wrong path with trusses. Thank you, I'm not going to try it this close to a public demo. My plan was closed but it is 67, 750 KB so I zipped it. Guess that does not work.
  18. Chief and this model is going up on a 65" 4K in two days @ a Home Show and I don't know how to create my tray ceiling under flat trusses. I want them up or to cut a hole in the trusses. I tired it but the ceiling planes would not up cut 12" into my trusses. I also need some standard crown molding there. X8 plan attached. They are to the rear of the garage 3 in the "Flex Suite" room and bedroom to the rear of it where I have two std square polylines. If you can tell me how to do one I can do the other I hope. You will be my best friend X8_ ParaFlex_Spec_2.zip
  19. I was not aware of a 3D warehouse, thanks guys.
  20. IRC calls for 3/8 continuous. Rod is right the mfg rates the panel in their data sheets for shear and buckling is what some have if the stud span gets too far. I think some just want to sell more wood so say 3/8 fails which I doubt. I've seen ICC letters of approval at 3/8 but some like LP contradict it by selling 5/8 structural rate @ 16/24 told me they have bucking issues at 3/8. LP and most Engineered is glue laminated fiber junk, I'll take T1-11 with a ventilation gap behind it any day of the week. Roy O Martin one direct makes a good product I use 5/8 way cheaper than engred, no osb sheathed, or barriers. The reason why most siding fails early is due to a lack of understanding of vapor transports and hygothermal mass they don't teach in engr school. The whole vapor barrier and retarder, house wraps, smart or dumb wraps, is a mess I don't follow any of.
  21. Like attached wall mounts for porches, garages, entry doors. I searched all the catalogs, core, in 8? "lantern" search pulls up a couple that it?
  22. Ok thanks David, is this why I need Superman vision or 3D glasses whatever the heck those are
  23. How do I make the little teenie weenie temp dimensions BIGGER? Like is this section view attached
  24. I just pulled up 8 and no tool bar icons are showing? EDIT: I did a default reset but have no idea why the heck they all of the sudden went a way after a reboot.
