  1. Has anyone tried printing out a design lately on a 3d printer? I know it is possible, I'm just curious if anyone on our forum has had success. Take a look at the attached photo. 6 scaled models of custom homes printed out on a 3d printer to showcase Marvin windows in their new Boston, MA showroom. I've seen the models in person and the detail is amazing.
  2. Thank you!! I had tried pulling it in, but was using the little circle instead of the little triangle. Learned something new!
  3. I must be missing something obvious. I want to make a custom table top with a concave curve. I am using the custom countertop tool and simply want to add a concave curve to one side. It is so easy to make a convex curve, is there another tool that will allow me to make a concave curve? Thanks, Susan
  4. Oh, thanks. I didn't know that.
  5. Is there another way to get a material region up on a wall for tile?
  6. I have been having problems with Material Regions in plans brought forward from X7 to X8. When drawing bathroom tile, for example. I draw a CAD box, use the "Convert Polyline" tool to change it into a material region and it disappears from my elevation. If I take an overview of the plan I can always find the missing material region outside of the house. What is causing this? This does not happen if I draw a regular old polyline solid on the wall. The polyline solid stays where it was drawn, however I don't have the control over the tile as I do in Material Regions so I prefer not to use polyline solids. Susan
  7. Has anyone else had issues with cabinets not behaving in X8? My cabinets won't stop when I push them against the wall in plan view, they just travel right through the wall. They won't bump up against another cabinet either. Is there a setting to fix this behavior or is this a bug? Thanks! Susan
  8. Hi, I have watched Scott Harris's Quick Tip Video on how to create a custom cabinet door and after I carefully follow all of his steps, I select my new cabinet door symbol out of my library and it goes onto the cabinet with the flat side out and the decorative side inside of the cabinet. I must be missing a step or doing something incorrectly for it to be attaching with the backside facing out. Any suggestions? Thanks, Susan
  9. Thank you! I spoke with Tech Support and their suggestion was to enter Google Drive through "My Google Drive", drag the folder I want to work on down to my desktop, work on the file, then drag the folder back up to "My Google Drive" when I am finished. This way Google Drive is not trying to automatically sync up my file while I am working on it. This should clear up the Red "X" issue.
  10. Does anyone use Google Drive? We just switched our office over to Google Drive from Sugar Sync and have found that the token PC in the office of Macs is having some problems. When the designer works on an existing file, she has no problems. If she tries to create a new file and save it to her drive, she sees a red "X" which means it cannot sync up. Has anyone else experienced the Red "X"?
  11. Hi, Our 6 person design firm has 3 small offices, each with one computer dedicated to Chief. Each computer (as well as other computers in the office) is synced to Sugar Sync. I've heard mixed opinions as to whether or not we are going to run into pitfalls working with this set up. Does anyone have an opinion? Thanks! Susan
  12. Thanks everyone!! The cabinet within a cabinet idea worked beautifully!
  13. Hi, I have a white cabinet with glass doors and would like to paint the inside a different color. I tried using a polyline solid, but couldn't get it to read through the glass. Does anyone know if there is a way to paint the inside of a cabinet a different color from the outside? Thanks! Susan
  14. Tommy, Thank you!! Worked perfectly. So glad I found another person up early on a Sunday morning! Susan
  15. Hi, When I send a plan to layout I want it to default at 1/2" scale, not 1/4" scale. I've set this before, but can't remember where to do this! Does anyone remember where this setting is? Thanks, Susan
  16. Wow, thanks Graham! I didn't know about the Wall Material Regions Tool. Always amazed at what I learn from this forum. p.s. Perry, no it did not automatically cut out doors and windows. I would go back in and do that manually.
  17. For a single wall I draw a polyline solid the same size as the wall, make it 1/16" thick and select the color I want. I have complete control without having to mess with the dbx.
  18. Thank you for sharing!!!
  19. Hi, If I want to show a series of 3 boxed out windows across a wall similar to the attached photo (photo shows only one window, I will need wall space inbetween each of my 3). How could I achieve that? It does not appear to be possible to adjust the depth of the window in the window dbx. So, I tried these work arounds which have not quite achieved what I am after. 1. I tried making the exterior wall 15" thick and placed the 3 windows in it, which automatically makes the window depth correct and looks fine from the perspective views inside, but incorrect in plan view. 2. I tried boxing out the wall, but the depth of the window stays the depth of the wall and looks correct from plan view, but not perspective view. Same issue if I used the boxed out window tool from the window tools. 3. Garden window does not appear to allow adjustment of depth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Susan
  20. Thank you. I had a feeling it was something like that. I've built cathedral ceilings using ceiling planes before, but they were always starting at the same height. This is a partial layout of the house showing the areas we are touching. The perspective is a bit distorted, but it gets the idea across. I need the ceiling plane to start at 129" on the left side of the room and 101" on the right side of the room. The peak is 166" with a 36" flat portion of ceiling at the peak. Thanks!
  21. I am drawing a master bath with a cathedral ceiling. The peak is 166". The ceiling starts at 129" on one side and 101" on the other. I'm sure there is a way to accomplish this, but I am stumped. I currently have it drawn so the ceiling starts at 129" on both sides and peaks at 166". Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, Susan
  22. Joe, Thank you so much for finding this for me! Susan
  23. Hi, I think I remember seeing this topic addressed awhile back, but cannot locate the thread. I run X6 on a Mac and find that the dimensions that run vertically on my plan are not legible unless I zoom way in. I thought this was an issue solved by one of the last updates? Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks!
