  1. The purpose of this RT is for me to gain a better understanding of what is happening with Textures, Surfaces, Lighting and Settings. Ultimately, none of use RT like this. We take our fully load plan file with all the bells and whistle cranked up to reflect a REAL WORLD SCENE. For educational purpose, I like the KISS method. Once I understand the nuances of what is going on well enough, I should be able to adjust for a larger model.

Why the video? I have yet to find anything of real value ONLINE, YouTube, et al, that provides the kind of help needed to maximize the RT engine in Chief. Most of what I have found is X1 to X7 so least several years old. The problem with the few examples I have found is with the settings/interface. Chief has changed a lot since X1. Maybe rearranged but not as shown in the videos.

I know there are many of you who know a ton about RT so, if you're willing, please offer up a nice BASE OUTDOOR and INDOOR render model sample for us to test.

One last point......I been told it is better to "EXPLORE" than to have someone point you to a know solution. Well! I get the whole "Teach a man to fish" cliche, but come on..Really! There is so much to learn and that is what this forum is about. Not all of us have 10 to 15 years of this stuff and if you're going to be on this forum, and respond to someone's post, Help them with their issue!!!!!!! "Okay, I'm done with that!

  2. Sweet! Nothing like seeing your dreams become reality, the good dreams, that is.

I, too, would welcome hearing more about "Plannng to Construction" so, perhaps a new thread in the "Other Section" of the forum would be ideal. It would be a great place for Design build folks to share ideas from around the world.

    thanks

  3. Hum! I'll have to give all this some thought. Not really making sense to me at the moment. That is why I like Video "How To's" Easy to understand watching someone than it is attempting to interpret  verbiage for something one has never explored.

    Thanks for the effort,

  4. Thanks guys!

David, can I change the Door face to match the other cabinets with you version. I tried what I thought would do but no change.

Mark, not sure I understand what you mean..." put a block there if you want to change door styles and a cabinet with it in -need to make the sides of the drawerbox no material. "

    Sorry, I'm more of a visual learner. RV50 Installed.PNG

  5. Dermot,

The Cabinet door and drawer styles change when I set the default. The only issue I can see with this is if I changed the Kitchen Cabinet config and did not want it to impact other cabinetry in the house. Ideally, and since designers often work in Real Time with clients, it would be a HUGE time saver, to make whatever changes we want during the deisgn process, be it Windows and trim, Doors and trim or Cabinetry and trim, and be able to Set the Default by "Room" at that time and have the model update. You have the new ROOM Type DBX so would it be much of a stretch to make this option available within the plan?

    Thanks,

  6. During the design process I frequently create various configurations of Door / Window trim to present to the client. once they select one, I would love to be able to click the SAVE AS DEFAULT button and have all trim updated (NOT SIZE) throughout the plan. This appears to work with Kitchen cabinets but not Doors and Window trim.

    Thoughts?

  7. Guys,

I have a REV-A-SHELF Dual Kitchen Garbage system in my home (RV50) I think it's called. These take the standard 15 Gallon Kitchen bags (FULL SIZE). Any chance you guys have one of these? David's symbols are great but I need a double like this one.

  8. Thought I would open up a discussion on CHIEF ONLY RAY TRACING where people interested could post their thoughts, ideas, tips and tricks on getting the most out of Chief's internal capabilities. NO OUTSIDE software or post rendering tweaking involved. I am far from an expert on this subject so I humbly post this thread and video to start the process.

    Thanks,

Attached is a Spreadsheet to help track and share your settings. If you find it valuable to edit, please upload the revised sheet and change the name to RT Settings v1.1 or applicable.

    Thanks.

P.S. Some of you may think this is stupid, and that;s okay. For me, I think it will help use share our settings when assisting others.

  9. I would like to see a thread with "NOTHING BUT PRODUCT DEVELOPED IN CHIEF AND CHIEF ALONE. I too have Photoshop, Lumion, Sketchup, etc. but not everyone has these tools, and or are proficient with them so, hence my wish to see what this group can do with only Chief X whatever.

    Thanks,

    Hello everyone,

Here's my latest design, and the first post on the new forum.

Are you telling us these were all done in Chief? If not, I would like to see a CA Render / Ray Trace ONLY Thread with tips on how to maximize the output.

    Thanks,

  11. Michael/ Solver,

both options on S are great, thank you both! I tried Michael's method and will try Solver's tomorrow.

Michael, I did have to remove the frames but I assume you figured I knew that.

    Thanks again,

  12. Joe,

if if you looked at my recent videos you will notice I build actual "Deck rooms" into my designs. All structures are ESOP(elevated structures on pilings) and thus, the ground (level 0), Terrain and slab are typically 14' below the "first floor" (level1). So, my house is essentially hovering 14' above ground. Most of the time, if the building site has side easement clearance, I'll place the stairs (from ground to first floor) along side the house and enter the Deck area. This approach works fine. It's only when I attempt to bring the stairs up through the actual "Deck Room Area" that  an issue.

I'm out of the office for a few hours but would be happy to prep a brief video describing the process for your review.

    thanks for asking,

  13. Anyone have a demo on bringing a set of stairs up through a a covered deck? I tried this and the "make hole through platform" button did not remove the deck planking and thus did not reframe the deck joist.

Any and all suggestions / techniques are welcome.

    thanks

  14. Joe,

I'm anxious to try this out as I am currently placing a lot of macro detail the Layout box label to keep track of the source data.

I also watch a few of Gerry's videos on using predefined verbiage for plan Text boxes, as well as the new OIP macro capabilities.

Hopefully after Scott Hall's GTM on Friday I will have a better understanding of how to incorporate macros effectively and efficiently into my plans.

  15. Stair issue resolved

    Eaves (overhange) resovled.

Ceiling planes are still an issue

i'M PREPARING A VIDEO DESCRIBING THE ABOVE AND A FEW OTHER THINGS FOR BETA.

  16. Perry,

What you suggested worked! Check out the video if you have time. There are a couple of other items you might find interesting.

    1) Stair landing Railing. Shows balusters and Newel post bit displays a solid panel

    2) Eave over stairs is not filling in.

    3) Eave and Soffit over Deck is lower than rest of roof.

    Thanks again,

  17. Perry,

I am trying to force the the Deck Joist to run parallel with my Floor Joist. I've done this before by changing the Joist direction in the "Deck" dbx but this time nothing seems to work. I don't want it like the image below. I'd be happy to post a video of what all I am doing if that will help.

    Thanks,
