Joe,
Thanks for the feedback. I've never tried to or knew you could add something like a rafter tail to a floor or ceiling beam... have you? I'll take a look and Post a reply when I start up again.
-
Guys,
Sorry for the late response. Life happens while squeezing in CA on a Saturday. Issue solved.
Thanks again,
-
Hum! I'll take a look at that approach. If the image was not clear, These "Floor Beams" 4 - 2" x 12"s Double on each side (Stringers" as they are called along to the Coast) sit on notched Posts(aka Pilings). Perpendicular to the the Beams sit are your Floor Joist, 1-1/4" T&G sub floor (4 x 8 sheets) and then you start framing the first floor walls from there. Using the Floor Beams allows me to set the structure for level 0 so when I draw the floor beams manually across the Pilings there elevation is correct. So, I may be able to accomplish the same this with Trusses if I can make them solid.
Thanks again,
-
Yes, I've modeled a complete Metal Builder superstructure using solids but all manually. I was hoping there was a way to do it with framing materials.
Thanks for the reply,
Happy 4th to you and your family!

David and ChipSaw,
You both hit on two points I had considered.
1) the CAD details are PDF's and I do have live views set but only on demand. It actually sped up after I saved and relinked the files.. a bit, but I will do away with the PDF files and stick to only CAD detail management.
many thanks!

Everyone of my Brother printers broke
printing black fine
replaced the cartridge and no black at all
did clean - then secret clean - then super secret clean
Brother was good about sending replacements multiple times
until warranty ran out
I had about 6 of them - same problem with all
no more Brother printers for me
Lew
Dang Lew!
I feel the same way about HP. I have rarely had consistent success with HP Wireless and Network printing. They also eat a lot of ink.
Just connected my new Brother MFC-J6930DW and what a difference!!!! Faster printing than the HP and and way better quality. Even spits out the 11 x 17 in seconds. For the price (Amazon Prime) it was hard to beat so we'll see. This is a great thread and thank everyone who contributes feedback.
Much appreciated,
-
How do you like the WF-7620? Ink price and print quality?
Thanks

Perry ET AL,
Thanks for the advise on printers. I just ordered the https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWNQ8NG/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and one set of extra XXL printer cartridges ( Color and Black). Will let you all know how it goes.
Thanks again,

be sure each color is a separate cart.
I gave up on having a wide format printer
a nice 13 x 19 model fit my office needs
for the clients prints I create a PDF and let them print them at the local shop
be sure to have a clause in your contract that if they print they
they found them acceptable
twice I sent DRAFTS to a client and the first time he dashed them to the printer
then then engineer marked them up and he complained about wasting $200+
second draft I hand delivered and he tells the secretary to take to printers
I said NO, you need to review them first...
from then on I had that clause in the contract
Lew
Lew,
I, too, have the Printing clause in my contract but I would still like to have an "ALL IN ONE 13 x 19 Printer" in my Home Office. All brand and model recommendations appreciated. The New HP 7740 looks nice, until I read a review from a Revit user that could not get it to work without streaks. My wife would like it to support Mobil devise printing too. I know this is a pretty big wish list but my main concern is quality Color Printing with Chief Architect.
Thanks,

THe SSA is a bargin in the grand scheme of the software. The best value of being a CA User is the great group of folks here on the Forum.

It depends what product you're talking about. I can tell you Office 365 has 24-7 support since the calls are forwarded to somewhere in India as the support center.
Myself, I find t he forums here to be better than any tech support i've seen.
I concur whole heartedly! I only wish I had more time spend on the forum.

David,
Since the point of this Thread is to learn how to maximize Chief's RT capabilities, please provide the setting used to produce these fine pictures. Your work is very nice and we all appreciate and respect your expertise.
Thanks

Got it. Thank you Sir.

Scott,
You are confused.
The Plan View in the Layout Box Specification IS reporting the Current Annotation Set being used.
The macro %referenced_layer_set% IS reporting the layer set used.
The reason you are getting confused is that you have both the Layer Set and the Anno set named exactly the same.
Change the name of the layer set and see what happens to the label.
Glenn,
You are absolutely right... I am confused in attempting understand Chief's logic in their DBX. I have it working just fine using my Same name method. What's missing is the ability to label "via macro" a Reference Floor and Layer Set.
Hope the Typhoon does not hit you guys!

I don't think there's anything for Annotation Set.
Joe,
The "PLAN VIEW" menu item within the "Layout Box Specification" dbx actually says "Current Annotation Set". This works well because my template method has a matching AnnoSet and LayerSet. See Video for more detail.

Joe,
If you saw my video I have all the obvious suspect covered but thanks.
Mike,
You may be right so I'll run with what I have. If it isn't a simple task for you I sure the heck won't push the issue.
thank you both,
-
I'm currently using one method but it is not yielding the desired results. Is there a way to create a Label Macro in Layout to show me what Annotation Set and Reference Sets are being used for this view? I hope the video below will explain what I want and why I want it.
Thanks,
-
Chop,
Thanks for the followup. I double checked the Layout box and there is only one VIEW there. I was pretty sure because I just updated view to my revised layout template. So, I guess it is a carryover from X8. Are you able to reproduce it on you side?
-
While I wait (Since March 3rd) for the developers to correct their programming errors, please check this video let me know what you think might be happening and how I can correct it without removing all the features Chief is advertising. If you need the plan and Layout I can upload them separately as they are 27MB in one zip.
Thanks again for all your help!
Slow Response with New Plan and Layout (SAM)
in General Q & A
Posted
Perry,
I found the issues. 1) have layout open while working on a plan does slow things down a bit but the real issue is...2) I have sheets in my layout that were some how still look for data that was no long directly linked to the plan file...even though I am using the SAM method when starting new plans. Dan at Chief Experts helped me clean house and fix the issue.
thanks for your suggestions.
