Regardless of one’s perspective or desire we Obviously draw in chief based on how it is programmed so, I will “Get used to it” but will welcome seeing a complete framing design video by one of the many users who have chimmed in on the thread. I stool side with Humble Chief regarding all points made in his video.
all the best and Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you.

Well, we have figured out what works for the Views we send to Layout and but as Larry said it doesn’t fit my little brain.
-
This does not address the fundamental issue that the framing does not report on the correct Level.
-
All good suggestions, or should I say work-arounds to a simple issue automatically. I find it hard to believe the coders could not figure out a solution to complete the wall end. As Designers and Architects, we should not have to spend our creative time working through functional matters such as these. I would much prefer to see all of us posting beautiful examples of the work we do with a awesome program and not fixes. Image the thousands of, combined, hours we spend trying to find ways to solve common structural elements. I’m sorry but this makes no sense to me.

I agree....im not a fan of Chief RT. However, with 3rd party tools getting as sophisticated as they are I am not sure Chief needs much else...in 5 years I believe most people who still use in-app render tools will migrate over to using those 3rd party offerings.
I’m certain I have no idea what is driving their decision to tie up Engineers on RT enhancements when they could probably get a license to use any number of existing RT engines on the market, Unreal is free to developers now. I do like the improvements I see with Physics Based Render for planning views but the RT process, although powerful is the right hands, does not compare to Lumion’s ease of use and flexibilty. I agree with you more time should be spent on the designing elements of the core program.

Thanks. Actually that is version 6....
Very nice! You’ve provided a great example of what can be achieved. I’m only now focusing on learning the features and capability version 6 ( assume you too have Pro). I’ll upgrade to 8 from here but that will be down the road.
it really is so much more intuitive than Chief’s RT. Brightman Designs has some of the best free tutorials I have found. Michael takes his time to really explains it well.

Absolutely Stunning! Which Version of Lumion?

For what it’s worth I tried using room planner on a Reno project and never again. I purchased a blue tooth laser and a laptop stand and will never go back. My clients allow me however much time is needed to measure a single room are an entire house before I leave. When return to my desk the bulk of the work is done. I essentially have a completed model ready to start the Reno and details. I just find it so much easier and rarely do I have to return to secure additional information.

I would be curious to see the Autocare files too. Import them into chief as a dwg and experiment with the various import options to see how close you can get them to the Cad images. They are simple cad lines no big thing. Save each one to cad detail management and you’re done. If Matt does not have time and wants to pay $200... okay.
Matthew, have you tried a High res screen capture or simply print each to a pdf and import the pdf into chief. This is method may not get you the sharpest image but it will work and won’t cost you but a few minutes of you time.
just trying to off constructive options you may not have considered. Otherwise, Post your CAD files. I would hard pressed if some does not already have exactly what you want and would be willing to share them free of charge.

Jintu,
Another example of your fine work. BEAUTIFUL!

Jintu,
Attached is my Collada file. Below is video, If anyone is interested, on the plan and the structure of my workflow plus a few issues I have with Chief (or may the way I use it).
BTW, from a Navigation standpoint, I have my camera settings to Smooth edges on Idle while working but when moving around I notice the jagged edges of the crown molding are very evident. Of course when I stop the camera everything looks awesome. My point is this, when I navigate around the same model in Lumion the trim always look funky even when idle. I did try changing/adjusting the material, etc in Lumion for the trim but nothing I did yielded satisfactory results so, needless to say, I am very anxious and excited to see what you can do with it and share how you will get my model looking like a photo.
For those who want to shoot down the fact some of use want to use programs like Lumion to ENHANCE what the AWESOME CHIEF program can already do, I want to create animated videos of my projects. For me, Lumion is the obvious choice. Working with Professionals like Jintu to create the settings for a Still photo will easily translate to creating a video and the render time is well, a non-issue.
Thanks again J!

Graham may share a few things, but he is a bit of a poison in this chatroom and only seems to be looking to annoy and upstage Jintu
How childish ...
Hum! To you’re point we are getting off topic so Skype or PM me and I give you more BG.

To me, Jintu is one of the most valuable assets in this chatroom.
He keeps us aware of not just rendering techniques and procedures in chief, but also other programs that enhance Chiefs capabilities
Don't understand why some people cant just stay out of his posts; sure seems like a form of hi-jacking.
I, for one, love the fact that he is always trying to improve his services and freely shares with others..
Mega Dittos to that statement!!!

There have been topics exactly like this, about Lumion (and other rendering engines) in the past started by the other users of Chief long before I purchased a copy.
As a professional renderer, I found it interesting. I enjoyed every thread about it. We didn't tell the posters things the way these two are saying now. Respect begets.
Jintu,
I trust are not referring me as one of "These two", I am actually suggesting Rich back off his soap box. With all due respect Rich if you are not interested or don't appreciate what others may about this topic then remove it from your notification list.
Enough said, keep up the good work Jintu. You Rock!
Now, about the file. I will first post the Collada file. Any special requirements? Thanks,

I've been repeating this until I'm blue in the face
(well actually green in the face). All this aftermarket
stuff is great but not germane to a Chief software
forum. What is germane is anything that leads to
improved results with Chief software. I don't think
you can argue the point that starting with the best
possible image from Chief will yield the best results
when taking it to post production software. If I were
a moderator I would remove all these non Chief
type of posts. If you want to see how Chief would
import to a post production software I would suggest
that you log into one of their forums and ask what
is the best way to import a Chief file.
Rich,
I thought you lived in "Heaven on Earth" so what are you getting so stressed out about? Seriously, posted under false pretenses I completely agree with you. There should be a disclaimer that any posted images showcasing Work on this Forum should be required to state whether or not they were produced 100% with Chief, and if not, provide the applications used to do so. If one is trying to promoted their capabilities for business pursuits their is a Thread for that. I am voting for several focused thread groups on the Forum, based on Chief Architect, of course. One specifically, where when someone posts a video or plan to their thread is automatically gets ported to a specific thread category. But I digress, the very Chief provides a Collada file export features justifies the existence of this very conversation. Will Chief reach this level of sophistication....you might be surprised before you know it.

Sure
Please post the plan. Save the camera view as well.
Sure can but the secondary, and or more importantly is, what will you do to the model prior to exporting it to a Collada file? If you would elaborate on this here, I will attempt to emulate your process and test it in Lumion 6.
One of the things Graham does for us with Ray Tracing, is explains his settings so we can achieve the results he does in his postings. This is really what this forum is all about so, it you would similar, we could all benefit.
Thank you,
-
Jintu,
I, for one, have no doubt you’re a power user and expert. Would it be possible for you to provide a short demo, as you did for me, but with a model of Our chosing? This way people can really see there are not as many steps as one might think to achieve these results.
Thanks for all you do!

Rick,
I felt this way on other threads. But I have to disagree with you here. This thread is title Lumion 8 Teaser so it is pretty clear it is not 100% native Chief rendering, there are threads for that and I am 100% in agreement with you on those threads. Here, I would like to see those Chief users using Lumion for rendering, as Graham put it, show us how it is done. Jintu was gracious enough to provide a teaser. I would very much appreciate a bit more in depth example of importing a Chief Collada model into any version of Lumion or even Unreal Engine. At Jintu’s suggestion, I spent several hours last night getting my bearings with Lumion and am very excited about the possibilities.
Chief is making great progress each year improving their capabilities and I would not be surprised to see some really special things very soon. Will it be to Lumion’s level? Who knows.
Rick, thanks for your feedback. All comments are appreciated as we are an exclusive group we need to support one another.

Jintu is Lumion 8 worth it?
One of the post I read said it was not as user friendly as Lumion ( my interpretation). I would like to see a comparison from a Chief user using both and see for myself. I own Lumion 6 Pro but am only not getting into it and it is relatively easy to use.
Any takers to my question?

Thumbs up to Perry, Johnny and Glenn. I did that yesterday and it worked like a charm. All very constructive and helpful advise.
Thanks,

Jintu,
Thank you so much. Fast and quick but awesome. Ahh! The beauty of video...you can watch it over and over. What you did here speaks volumes about your character/. A true mentor willing to share his knowledge with those eager to learn.
I recognize many of the steps from my limited work in 6 so, I hope the process has not changed from 6 to 7.5. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have inspired me to blow off trying to do a presentable image in Chief. I think I will shift to Lumion 6 until I can afford to upgrade and do all my stills in Lumion - along with a few videos. Seeing the wind blowing and people moving about will blow most people away.
I have photos of my current clients lot and can try to emulate the landscaping currently there. Question: Do you know of way to take a photo of the adjacent home(s) (There is a house on either side of the lot) and incorporate it into the Lumion scene without it looking awkward? It would certainly add to the dynamics of the final image. If not, I can landscape around the property line and even show people walking in front of the house on the street and the trees blowing in the wind. Very cool and impressive. One more, This client has a golf course behind his house. If I take some photos of the area and send them to you, would it be possible for you to demonstrate, as your did here, how you would emulate the site?
Again, Thank you so much for the inspiring video
P.S. You are the Man! I only wish I could afford your fees BUT, I would be willing to contribute to your Paypal account for more specific tips and guidance.

Glenn,
What was odd is I had a complete room. I then selected an exterior wall and started drawing it at the corner over the railing where it met the house and out a few feet. This typically replaces the existing wall with the new wall. when this was done the room still existed by with a blank end cap. That is the kind of result that is frustrating. It was not until I sued Eric's suggestion that I achieved the desired results.
