  1. Chief files can not be opened in previous versions.

It's still not clear to me whether or not the problem you are having is with a particular plan or the problem is trying to run X8.  Obviously you were able to run X8 previously otherwise you could not have saved the plan in X8.  If you are trying to launch X8 by opening the problem plan, then this could still indicate that the problem is the plan and not the program.

Can you launch X8 without opening any plan or layout files?

If not, how are you trying to launch X8?

I am attempting to launch X8 from the shortcut and not the plan file. X8 will not boot period. only thing that happens is the DBX Assertion Failed comes up and I hit abort.

Uninstalled and reinstalled "Chief_Architect_Premier-18.1.0.41-Win64" with same results.

    What next?

  2. Guys,

Thanks again for all your support. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and received the same error DBX when attempting to start X8. The version I used to install is "Chief_Architect_Premier-18.1.0.41-Win64". What was interesting when I attempted the reinstall was it did not ask me where I wanted to install X8. Also, is there a way to ensure ALL associated files with X8 are deleted from my PC (I've already safely stored my X8 plans), so I can get a true "Fresh" install?

    Thanks again,

  3. Hello gang!

After many months I am back to drawing again. Feels like starting over sometimes especially when the errors and crashes start. After renewing my SSA and switching to X8, I began preparing a plan portfolio in Layout. Using various Annotation & Layer Sets along with Cameras, "Sent to Layout" the shots. That is when the "Assertion Failed" DBX reared is ugly head (See Attached).

I thought by saving the camera under the same name as the image (i.e. Exterior Perspective - North Side) and allowing X8 to auto update the image whenever I made changes to the plan would be a cool way to keep my data current. After experiencing the DBX several times, and hitting the ABORT button, X8 will not start. Only the attached BDX comes up. Any ideas? X7 still works so I hope to continue working there until this issue is resolved.

  4. is the Truss sitting on the wall marked and end truss ? and also reduced gable?  if not select it and use the force truss rebuild box , see if that helps.

    Mick,

I didn't try your approach when Perry's did the trick, but I will certainly keep your suggestion in mind.

    Thanks

  5. OR, just balloon frame that wall to fill it in, unless you need to show a truss there.

    Ah ha! That did it!

Thank you all. I have a couple more but I will post a short video to explain.

P.S. You are all a terrific group of a folks.

  6. One more question on the affect Trusses may be having on my model. You will notice the upper end of the Gable wall is void of siding. Is this linked to the Truss? I moved it inside the wall edge thinking it was blocking the siding but that did not help. Any thoughts?

    Thanks again,

  7. I actually did these for the client and  as an option but they elected to go Cathedral Ceiling instead. This got me thinking about Roof Trusses instead of Steal Columns and Rafter beam. In the end it will be the engineers call but here is what CAX7 came up with.

Thank fir all your framing help. :)

  8. Guys/Gals,

I would like to present a Roof Truss Option to my client but am having difficulty getting the ROOF TRUSS to draw in the attached plan. Would one of you have a suggestion on what is preventing me from drawing the TRUSS? The Floor Trusses went down without a hitch.

    Thanks,

    Plan attached.

  9. David,

Thanks for pointing out my oversight on the "baselines" and of the course the video explaining it all. You did a great job in short order interpreting my design objective for the roof. I've done as good a job as I know to do to correct the model.

DSH - Your tip on the wrought iron balusters did the trick. Thank you!

    Design points: (Revised Model attached)

    • David, the gap in the front hip needed to be moved in as terminates at the wall and does not cover deck.
    • I raised the Baseline of the 1:12 hip to 335 and lowered the 6:12 Fascia top to 332 so the tile will blend into the ridge of the hip. (Hope that made sense)
    • I used 1/2" x 21" Slabs to make up the Stucco Fascia around the 2nd floor beneath the roof overhang. Much of which will be Steel I-beams and or box beam. Engineering is currently reviewing the layout. (See attached photo)
    • I've installed a door in the East Gable wall but need some help to place a shallow balcony. It's all a façade but I need to show it. You will see (Annoset - A4 FLOOR PLAN 3RD) where I attempted to place a Balcony ROOM and a Deck ROOM and now all I have are ATTIC walls that won't go away. (See attached RAYTRACE- notice the black garbage in the RT. No idea what that is)
    • Once I get past Engineering I can complete the rest of the project.

  10. Guys and Gals,

I'm having some difficulty with the attached plan and would very much appreciate your thoughts, feedback and assistance to address the following:

    • Roof planes not aligning properly
    • - 1/12 hip roof on 2nd floor surrounding a 6/12 Full Gable
    • Created a 3rd floor so I could add a fuax door and balcony on the large gable wall on one side and a HVAC nook on the other. I have the HVAC nook in place but not without pull and dragging walls around in 3D (not the proper way to do this I know). But not sure if this is the correct approach to take for this task.
    • I have a lot of Steel (RED IRON) super structure underneath the walls that I think is slowing down my system with this plan. Not sure how else to manage this process and would like your advise.

Thanks again for your professional support.

  11. I created a curved set of stairs (correctly or not) and when they attached to Railing Wall, one portion is missing. There basically three staircases. One from the ground to the landing where it splits off into two up around the fireplace and on up to the balcony railing. The plan is attached someone would mind taking a look. I also don't like the way the interior stair at working either. They cut into the room behind the staircase and just aren't cooperating. It will make sense when you see them.

    Thanks for your feedback,

  12. You rock! I also added, correctly or not, a wall on the second floor the full length of the open below Chapel area in order to accommodate MEP. In both sides. The problem with that approach is there is no ceiling beneath it so I placed a soffit. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks again,
