Never done that but I would sure like to choke a program at MS some days. Technology! The good and the bad.

Perry,
Everything was on so, I rebooted Windows 10. When I restarted CAX8 the walls appeared. I guess the age old computer cliche' is still true. If all else fails reboot.
Thanks for chiming in with a suggestion.

I downloaded plan and opened it, took camera shot. I did nothing and your gabel was there.
I opened the plan you viewed and still get the same missing walls. There must be a setting I missed. Why does this happen when you don't have time to deal for experimenting..

This kind of stuff drives me crazy. This was a simple plan I imported from Room Planner. Set my room heights, room dividers, and ceiling planes. Notice the other image above the left wall. WTH!
I have ALL DISPLAYED in my CAMERA VIEW settings, too.

Guys,
Having a similar issue on the attached plan. I created the vaulted ceiling planes in the LR and they show up fine, but the gable end walls are missing and I am looking into the sky. In the LR DBX | Structure | CEILING... X= Checked O=Blank
X - Roof over the room
O - Ceiling over this room
O - Use Soffit Surface for Ceiling
I can see the custom Ceiling Planes fine but no end walls. If I check Ceiling over Room then I get a flat ceiling. I think I have checked all and now loosing my hair with CAX8. Can someone help me see the forest for the trees here. Thanks.

Joe,
Does one version exploded better than another? I need a simple Carriage Bolt 3/4 x 12" with nut and washer in 3D. I do have Sketchup so Dennis, are you saying create or convert the item I need in Sketchup and then import to the CA X8?
Thanks,

I've tried the floor and plan painter to fix sash and trim colors but it changes the whole window. If I want brite white interior and exterior sash and brute white interior trim and dark grey exterior trim when I set these on one window and click the painter eye dropper and select say the exterior trim and click on the another exterior trim piece everything on all windows turn grey. What am I doing wrong?

It's all starting to make sense but sometimes I miss it. Thanks for the help.
A couple more issues along the same lines.
1) Exterior siding on interior stairway wall.
2) Stair handrail wall not working correctly. (Siding on top of wall where Handrail should be.)
3) Green wall on Ground floor. (DBX don't make sense)

I have a similar but different issue. i need the upper part of the stairs enclosed by exterior walls and the lower part open. (See photo and Plan file attached)
"Different topic but same plan"
I also am having issue getting my interior wall of my fireplace to show the correct surface on outside of house.
I'm sure all this is elementry but I am stuck.
Thanks in advance for your help,

I know this probably not the best thread for this but here goes. I recently secured two remodel jobs and was curious, from this thread....is anyone using RoomPlanner to do As-Builts, and if not why?
I would be most interested in adopting proven systemic method of capturing data and transfer it to Chief. My gut tells me you are both right but the time variations raise more questions than either of you have answered.
IMHO, Google Earth, Surveys, exterior elevation photos with dimensions, interior video walk-through with audio commentary plus actual laser dimensions would all be done if one is to achieve as thorough an understanding of the structure he/she will recreate in Chief. Can one ever have too much data?

Going back to school.

The problem lies in my lack of drug be space on my C:\. It's only a 128GB SSD and I don't want to redo my OS again with a larger drive. Chief will not allow redirect of certain files so I had to remove several programs including X7. Will attempt a fresh C8 install later this AM and hopefully all the catalogs will install.

....and duct tape may not fix stupid but it can sure muffle the sound.

Graham,
Thanks for the information. I am reviewing an earlier contract prepared by my attorney when I was engaged in a commercial project last year; which incidentally, the client refused to sign and thus I terminated the work performed up to that point. Since my focus is now only residential, Inwant to simplfy the document.
-
So far I have not worked directly with builders. I do have an attorney reviewing and suggesting verbiage but as is typical they get very wordy and thus tryout to simplfy the contract. The may point is "Hold harmless clause". All my designs for the following process.
1) design accepted by the owner.
2) design submitted by owner to ARC
3) design submitted to Windstorm engineering firm for them to prepare, foundation, shear walls, truss loading, etc
4) design makes whatever adjustments to the plan requested by ARC and or Engineer.
6) builder selected buy owner
7) design and Engineering doc submitted to local and state authorities for permit approval by builder
Note: I base my fees on sq ft / package and provide all revisions up to the point where working drawings are finalized for permitting. After that point and changes are based on an hourly fee.

Right, and I have attempted to edit the X8.ini file to redirect the program to a different drive. Once saved and all the files are moved to the respective locations I specified, I restart X8. When I checked the "All Program Paths" I side X8 is stills shows the old (original locations) and not the new ones. Will call tech support Monday.
Never thought I would see the day when 128GB is not enough storage for an OS and a few programs.

Question:
If your contract clearly states, and is signed by the client, that the plans provided are solely for the purpose of design realization, General guidelines for construction contractor, governing authorities, structural engineers, et al, and does not provide assurance outside this scope. Designer is held harmless for actual fit and function as these respective results are outside his/her control.

Well said Perry!
-
Will do. THanks again Dermot and all the CA Gurus!
-
Can you show the whole list?
-
Can the Program Paths be customized? I don't want anything stored on my "C" (boot and OS) drive. I installed the program on my 2 TB drive, which is my "G:" drive, and all other X8 related Program Paths data to go to my SSD "E:" drive. I can't have these other files on "C" because it is too small and thus I only want it to support the OS.
Can I relocate these files and folders and correct the Paths in the X8.ini file?
Thanks,
-
Dermot,
Steps to resolve X8 not starting...
- Ensure X8 plans and Archives are stored in a safe place
- Search "This PC" and renaming everything that contains "Chief Architect Premier X8" to "Orig_Chief Architect Premier X8"
- Re-Read the "chief-architect-x8-download-and-installation-instructions.pdf" & "chief-architect-x8-migration-guide.pdf"
- Run the install version 18.1.0.41-Win64
- Path: G:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X8 (64 bit)\ (my SSD Drive)
- Install all necessary support files
- Entered my License
- Eureka! It works now.
- Downloaded Catalog completed with errors. (Not sure how to determine what the error is. Help?
Going to make sure my filing system is congruent with CA recommendations.
Switching from Multi to single monitor setup
in General Q & A
Posted
Guys,
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question.
I typically run a multi monitor setup. When I open the Library it appears on a second monitor. I grabbed my box and headed to Louisiana to assist my brother in remodeling his flooded home and did not take a monitor. I am using a single monitor here and when I open the library it does not display. I assume it is on a different screen, which I do not have. Is there a way to reset the DBX so they all open on the single monitor?
Thanks for your assistance,
