  1. Solved  see below:

    K. I did something stupid and can't figure out how to get the layer display dialog  box back to its normal size.  Minimizing didn't work as this is the minimized size.  Can someone tell me what I need to do to get it back to its smaller size.

Well I figured it out before I posted my question, and thought I should post it in case I or someone else runs into this again.  Maximize the dialog, and then there is a small area in the right lower corner that will allow you to drag the corner up and in with your mouse to the size you want.

I just did a quick drawing...I'm using a "frieze" board...and letting Chief place automatically.  Seems to work fine.

    Why do it manually?

For me, sometimes the frieze boards show up and sometimes they don't or are only partially there.  I am super happy that most of the gables have the auto frieze working properly,  That just leaves the two front gables for me to deal with, thankfully.

Well, the time you spent creating the image showing the problem and the time you spent typing these posts, you could have done it using solids. Just a thought. I have done this many times and it really doesn't take that much time.

You are correct and solids may be the way I end up going.  Since I had time and other work to do, I want to learn if there is a way that is available using the moldings.  I love learning shortcuts and this is the place to find them.  Hope you Thanksgiving week is terrific!

You could always do a polyline solid in an elevation. Shape it as you like at the bottoms.

True, but that takes more time to get it right.  I may have to resort to that if an answer doesn't come in while I am working on other parts of the project.  Just would rather have options available on how the molding is cut.

Did you force a rebuild after you changed the direction or just let it auto rebuild? Is keep deck framing after deleting checked?

Thanks for your help, guys.  It got me thinking another direction.    I had changed the default, but it didn't change the planking on the deck that was already built.  I did get it to work by choosing the deck room on the plan and changing the plank direction on the deck to 90 degrees.  I guess the default change would have worked for a new deck, but not an existing deck.

  6. I need the planking to go the at 90 degrees to its current orientation.  I have gone to the dialog for rooms and changed the plank direction from 0 to 90 degrees.  I have gone to the foundation page and changed the direction of the joists to run at 0 degrees instead of the 90 degrees it wants to run. It will change the joists but not the planks. Auto deck framing is on.  I remember being able to work this out before, but for some reason it escapes me now.  Help is greatly appreciated.

  7. Is there a way to globally change layout box on .layout to point to a new location for the file?  At times I need to move my drawings into a different location to make everything more organized.  Sometimes when I do this the .layout page will point to the .plan that is in its same folder,  sometimes it will give me a dialog upon opening the .layout page that lets me know it can't find the .plan file and lets me browse to where it is located, and sometimes it points to the original folder where the .plan file resided.  In the last scenario, is there a way have the entire layout have all the layout boxes point to the .plan in the new folder without having to go and select each layout box individually and have it point to it,  I am working in x10 but have x11 available.  Thanks!

try color off is grayscale in preferences, then print in color with you print drivers. If you turn off color using the color off button you will see what it looks like. Just make sure yuou keep colors on the dark side so they show up   . light gray doesn't work.

Perfect!   Just what I wanted and couldn't remember how to do.  Thanks!!!!

  9. Thanks for trying to help.  I wasn't clear.  The color is viewable on the layout page but it won't print with the shading that is there on the floor plan view.  It just gives the wall lines with out the shading.  Sometimes I want it  to have the shading showing when it is printed.

Are you sure it's not your Saved Plan View that you want?

Making a copy of your active layer set only makes sense if you know almost nothing about layer sets (or if you understand them completely and find it a convenient way to create a new one and always specify a more reasonable name).  It also has the side affect of disabling the linking of layout boxes to saved plan views.

I suspect that your real problem is that you are sending a saved plan view to the layout without realizing that the layout box will be linked to the saved plan view.  Please check out my comments on this thread regarding saved plan views:

you guys are right.... I have just been accustom to using the active layer set.  I will give this way a try.
