Thanks for your help, guys. It got me thinking another direction. I had changed the default, but it didn't change the planking on the deck that was already built. I did get it to work by choosing the deck room on the plan and changing the plank direction on the deck to 90 degrees. I guess the default change would have worked for a new deck, but not an existing deck.

I need the planking to go the at 90 degrees to its current orientation. I have gone to the dialog for rooms and changed the plank direction from 0 to 90 degrees. I have gone to the foundation page and changed the direction of the joists to run at 0 degrees instead of the 90 degrees it wants to run. It will change the joists but not the planks. Auto deck framing is on. I remember being able to work this out before, but for some reason it escapes me now. Help is greatly appreciated.

Perfect! That is my answer. Thanks Don. I didn't know that existed.

Is there a way to globally change layout box on .layout to point to a new location for the file? At times I need to move my drawings into a different location to make everything more organized. Sometimes when I do this the .layout page will point to the .plan that is in its same folder, sometimes it will give me a dialog upon opening the .layout page that lets me know it can't find the .plan file and lets me browse to where it is located, and sometimes it points to the original folder where the .plan file resided. In the last scenario, is there a way have the entire layout have all the layout boxes point to the .plan in the new folder without having to go and select each layout box individually and have it point to it, I am working in x10 but have x11 available. Thanks!

Perfect! Just what I wanted and couldn't remember how to do. Thanks!!!!

Thanks for trying to help. I wasn't clear. The color is viewable on the layout page but it won't print with the shading that is there on the floor plan view. It just gives the wall lines with out the shading. Sometimes I want it to have the shading showing when it is printed.

How can I get the wall color to show up when it prints. It used to do it but I must have turned something off on the layout page and can't find how to turn it back on now. Thanks folks!!

setting to stop previous layout box changes when new view sent to layout
DianeP replied to DianeP's topic in General Q & A
figured it out check the box on make copy of active layerset. Seems like this should be default mode fore CA out of the box. -
I am setting up x10 and x11 in a new computer. Can't remember the setting to change to stop the old layout box from changing when a new one is sent...IE is sent the floor plan view and then the foundation view. Now I have 2 foundation views because the floorplan view changed to foundation view as well.

Thanks for the great info Jorge! With the given zigzag shape of building is this something that is able to be done where the outcome will look like the clients desired pictures? If so, which walls would you make the gable parapet walls? I am assuming there would have to be at least 3- 2 parallel with each other and another perpendicular????

My clients would like to have their home have a roof similar to this: Problem is this house seems to be "L" shaped and theirs is extremely zigzagged to try to fit it onto a pie shaped lot and still have all the amenities they want. Here is what theirs looks like. I will be removing the hip roof on the deck as it is supposed to be replaced with a concrete slab roof. and the roof deck will be over the master bedroom area instead of to the front of the house. Here is a picture of the plan and elevation I was able to come up with.... and I have attached the x11 plan. Anyone have suggestions??? Post_residence_expanded_x-11_expanded_flat_roof.plan

Ok this is what I did in case I come back here looking for solutions: set rail at post to beam with newels 72" apart. Went and put in 36" tall posts on every other post from the deck corners, using the post to beam as my guide. Then went back and changed the spacing to 144" apart. Thanks all for your suggestions that got me going!!!!!
-
Yes this would keep me from having to add the beams at least. But I would have to still spend time centering them between the columns.
-
That's a better idea than I had. Thanks.. Still would like a wall that did this automatically so I could cut out some steps because I would have to add the columns and the beams.
-
Does anyone have an alternating post to beam-post to rail railing wall with beam all the way across? Or do I have to make multiple brakes changing back and forth to post to beam and post to rail.....PAIN!!!! Looking for something like this:

i kept looking for it on the first floor but was looking closer to the exterior wall, stupid me!! Thanks Eric. Fixed the roof too. Even had a straight line there to make sure I got it straight and didn't use it. How stupid is that. Me thinks I see signs of burnout..... time to go for a walk on the beach. Thanks again!!!!

Use this? and put a rectangle around the whole house. Should give you a turning handle.

I moved some walls on my shed dormer and need to adjust the roof opening, but the opening perimeter has disappeared; opening is there but no rectangle to adjust. Any ideas other that redoing the roof plane and the roof opening? If this is the only way is there a way to heal the opening in the exiting roof plane? I've attached plan in x10. While I am at it, what is causing the front gable roof to do this? Paraskevas_residence_two_story_version_2.plan

I don't have the Saved Plan View Control in my set of toolbars. What do I need to do to add it?
-
Thanks Eric, I used the unlink icon on the layout toolbar. Weird because I am using the same plan and layout templates that I used in x10 and had no issue.

I have exported the first floor to layout and then went to the second floor and exported it to layout and it changed the first floor view to the second floor as well. I tried it over and over again and still it changes to which ever exported view I do last. I end up with two upstairs views or two downstairs views. What's up with this? This is the way I have been able to export to layout since x5. Anyone know what it is that I need to do to fix this problem?

thanks Mick. this looks really good.
