Hi Joe - agree there are ways to mask it. For me it's not an issue, I always have them turned on. Always want to see the individual objects. Not even sure why one would turn them off, maybe just to show a simplified view? Graham

Just a few more observations on this module line anomaly. - It happens on all objects under cabinets except the partition. This includes custom counter tops. - the portion of the module line that still shows when toggled off varies depending upon which object has been defined to be in front of the group. - placing each object on an individual layer had no effect on this behavior. - not restricted to back to back placement. Two cabinets placed side by side would show this behavior when the common connection was less than 50%. Hope this helps in identifying the cause. Graham

We should all try to do a better job at tagging our posts so that the search features already in ChiefTalk would be more effective. Everything we need is already here in one place, just need to be able to get at it quick & fast. Offline? who's offline these days? The next generation will need to check with the worlds leading authority on nomenclature & standards Wikipedia to learn what offline means (have to read the post on "120V Electrical")

Getting all those features in one for free could be a challenge. There are separate pdf programs for free that allow you to split & merge pdf's. Most of the major free ones including those already mentioned have these capabilities but you have to upgrade (pay). Graham

The better free ones that I have found are PDF-Viewer and Nitro Reader. There are quite a few out there, I get most of my freeware from snapfiles.com. Never had any problems with this site and downloads are direct and straight forward. See if one works for you. Graham

If you are concerned about non-standard, out of date nomenclature then Chief Architect should be the least of your concerns. Pick any Code Book or Standards Manual and you will find it riddled with these. Once something is written into code or standards its essentially there forever. All those subsections are the culmination of decades worth of writing committee work trying to incorporate newly introduced methods and materials without undermining the validity of prior acceptances or the potential to manipulate a parties interest via exclusion or inclusion. Some here may participate or have participated in these committees, I am certain they understand the complexities involved as you attempt to form a consensus between government, industry and the public. I think It's something to do with how module lines are recognized/tracked in the programing. If you take two cabinets butted side by side and toggle the module line on and off then they respond correctly. Then select the two cabinets and do a copy in place, they are now superimposed. The on off toggle does not work and the lines remain. It seems like one set of the module lines it not being recognized as a module line and is therefore not turned off. Graham

Just a correction here from my last thread. I don't think the Display options are working correctly in mine either. Had different zooming between each plan which was likely making the line thickness appear as if it was changing. Graham

There seems to be a few other weird things going on with the Module Lines. In the plan sent by Alexander I was able to get this to happen even if the cabinet was moved away up to 2" from the other backing cabinet as I was checking to see if it was a bumping/connecting issue. However in my plans it only happens when the cabinets are truly connected. Also, in his plan I noticed that in the Active Layer Display Options for Module Line I could not get it to accept any style changes such as Line Style, Line Weight, etc. Yet in my plans this works fine. No idea why the differences, just my observations so far. Graham

Thanks Dermot - That was my suspicion. Appreciate the work around suggestion, will give it a try. The dilemma of not remembering why something done before made sense at the time is not unique to programing. Happens to me all the time. Here is a symbol straight from the bonus library. Glass Jar Pendant 03. Drop in floor plan - View with 3d Camera - Click on Object. Use handles to resize. Everything works fine except when you try to reduce the fixtures overall height under 20 1/2" (I am not referring to ceiling height). Have played with Zones, the bounding box will change but the model inside does not. Mark seems to be experiencing the same thing, anyone else? Many Thanks, Graham Glass Jar Pendant 03.calibz

No problem Mark. I thought you were just asking for additional feedback back, makes sense. I know I have also had this issue with the bonus catalog pendant lights. Use the glass jar ones a fair bit over islands. If memory serves me correctly they also will not infinitely adjust in the height direction. Also when they auto place to the ceiling the device box shows below the ceiling plane. Have to set ceiling offset -1" to flush the cover plate. Graham

I've used this technique as described by Glenn and it works fine, as stated it can be a bit finicky in the final alignment. Just have to zoom in and visually check the offset movement. Fortunately not a big need for this here as the trend is shifting strongly towards more structured tile layouts using large format rectified tiles. With these a standard stack layout is usually required as there tends to be a slight curvature/warpage in the tile which causes a lippage issue in brick patterns. Graham

Yes I have tried it both ways numerous times, checked and unchecked, still could not get the height less than 5 15/16". Graham

I tried in 3D and it still would not reduce in height less than 5 15/16". Also thought that it might be due to an electrical box, but it does allow me to reduce the width, tested that down to 1/16", same for the depth. Graham

Trying to resize the contemporary glass sconce from the main catalog library. I can adjust the width & depth however it will only permit me to adjust the height down to a minimum of 5 15/16". Any attempt below this height and the symbol automatically resets to 5 15/16". Is this an inherent limitation or is there a setting or method that I am unaware of? Using X7. Thanks, Graham

Excellent point Michael - For the platform method you can still leave the kick on the cabinet to keep the overall height correct if need be. Depending upon the platform material used you may also need to exclude it from the material list. Every time we do something outside of Chiefs built-in functions you always need to keep in mind that there may be other undesirable consequences. Graham

That's weird. It looks like it is occurring in regions directly above a cast shadow. There is also a patch of siding flattened just above the shadow of the high portion of the wood screen and the one around the door opening appears related to the shadow cast by the lower portion of the wood screen and there is also the second floor window above the entrance door where the shadow has completely obscured a the lower portion of the window. Have you tried changing the sun angle to see if it has an effect? Graham

I guess having this options would do no harm so why not. However, could this not create some confusion when discussing issues with a client and they are referencing page numbers that would differ from your master layout. Graham

Robert, yes you are correct. I usually use the cabinet dbx add moldings feature for most of my kick decorations such as a decorative baseboard. Prefer this over a polyline molding as these can be a bit tricky to click on without a lot of tabbing or turning off layers. Your method works perfectly well and I have had to do similar things in the past. I just prefer to avoid as much as possible having things hidden in the background. Graham

If you use the platform method I & Mark have discussed above and the platform is created with a shelf, partition or as Mark suggested a molding line then you can also easily add decorative components such as moldings to the kicks. Graham

Well said Glenn, experience does not really imply that one knows everything. Hopefully with experience one has learned how to rapidly identify the real issue and then be able to logically deduce it's resolution. The answer is always there, we just have to find it. Personally that's what makes the job interesting. If there where no problems to resolve most if not all of us would be unemployed. Graham
