  1. I will check them both out...  all these steps seam like a PITA though.  BUT it will get me where I need to be, so THANKS

BTW, I added  a suggestion for CA to add options to add more windows if needed..

  2. Having the same issue as Dan...  I like the ease of using the box window, but why cant we add another window(S)? And why doesn't the "one" window come in with the defaults (type, casing, etc.)?  So, if you want more than one window, you have to make one manually.  Follow that tutorial and it has you create a room, raise the floor, and put a door way as the opening.  See the attached, this is what you get on a first floor room.  It thinks this is a room so foundation adjust to catch, the terrain cuts away, and terrain features.

Can't post plan (contract reasons), but this is something the experts on here should be able to duplicate with their own CA.

Thanks for the advise in advance.

  3. Just spent an hour looking over past Q's and A's on this, not really finding a solution.

I am trying to continue a cathedral over a high ceiling entry to the back wall, but instead the ceiling plane follows the roof plan line. (Basically I want to continue the room plane back)  I have played with the many of the options I mentioned below, including putting in a ceiling plane but get nothing. With ceiling above room off, why doesn't a ceiling planes appear?  Elsewhere in this home where I have cathedral (via ceiling planes) I have no problems...

I have ceiling over room unchecked

I have ceiling default finish unchecked

I have checked and unchecked roof over this room

I have unchecked and checked Use Room Ceiling Finish

Checked and unchecked knee walls, because it kind is like a dormer

BTW, I cannot post plan, per contract obligations.  Builder specifically mentions this.

  4. I think something else is going on here TKA.  I am placing light fixtures in this new model, now that the room layouts are good.  I only had four of the can lights in, no other electrical.  I did turn off all but one, and still wont show the "glow".  And my vid card should be more than adequate.  My other models, where as I have tons of lights, I do turn off all rooms I am not RT, and some rooms like a family/game room I just did had 12 cans, 3 pendants..  when this would happen, I would turn one light off, then back on and they all would glow.. all 15 lights. But really, its all good, because it turns out on RT, just missed the convenience.  Thanks for replying and getting my wheels turning.

  5. Don't know about HDS but in Chief Premier, the wall cabinet specification, there should be a molding tab.  Just delete it.  The CA73 is the shape of the molding, many to choose from.  You can set your molding individually (per cabinet) or by your standard default (the white wrench on tool bar)

  6. I've noticed this a lot lately, on my last half dozen plans or so, and been meaning to ask...  But it seams like when I have a light "on" (with the "glow" showing) and I either adjust material, or turn another light on or off.. the glow disappears on the remaining "on" lights.  By no means a show stopper and RT still works showing the lights on.. but I like the idea of seeing which lights are on in advance.  The attached shows the same light and they both are on in the the 3D view.   Setting??  Bug??

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Wow again.  So these are all done outside of CA ray trace..  Interesting.  It looks like I will be looking into Photoshop CC and saving your tutorial above and your others.  Lately, the builder I am working with wants realistic photos, for pre-sale reasons.  Ray Trace has done pretty well up to this point, but now we are getting into the high end homes, I am thinking high end renders are needed.  Thank you Rene...

  8. By what I have seen on this and previous post, you are an expert on these rendered, RT, Photoshopped views.  I've attached three RT views with a touch of bump mapping.  The first one has an ugly light bulb dead center.  How do you correct this?  The next two have the traditional can lights, but mine looks like just white circles, where the one you showed above has texture and depth.  Again, how do I achieve a more realistic look?

  9. Could be so many things..  Is there a roof over head (for some reason keeps light from bleeding through)?  Is there a cabinet light, if so might play with the Point or spot settings.  It really is a trial and error.

Side Note..  going to be a beautiful render once you get the light glow issue fixed..  love the back ground view out of the window too.

  10. Hi there..

Click on the layout, and open the object.  You will get a layout box specification pop up, last item is called label.  Where you see label options, click "specify label".. the default is automatic.  That's where you change the layout box name.  Make sure that Layout Box Labels is turned on in your layer properties.  Hope this helps.

  11. You can try and change some of your "locate object" dimension defaults (DEFAULTS, LOCATE OBJECT) and when that doesn't work, drawing the line is the last thing to try.  I know it doesn't make sense, because IMO, anything that has an edge should be able to be dimensioned.  Chief does not dimension like AutoCAD or Mechanical.   You can also try rearranging your layers in the build wall specification too, for instance move your line 3 to main layer....  see if that helps.
