  1. I figured I would have to do the old fashion way with cad lines.  Was hoping there was a live "show floor or ceiling" button in an elevation view that I was not aware of.  Thanks for confirming what I thought.  An overlay, hmm.. guess I can try that too.

  2. I know we can story board dimension, but its not the real clearest thing I've used in my experiences (it basically just throws a line out there across the elevation). In the old days, a hidden line representing floor or ceiling was drawn, and we dim'd to that.  Is there any way to do this with CA from within the model, or do I need to draw hidden lines manually?

  3. Nothing has changed on how I open a new plan.  I always use the pull down from under the File menu.  And I checked out the preference setting per your recommendations Chop (see below) and it appears correct.  But when I do try to open, I get the not found pop up.  Second attachment.  BUT.. I can manually go into my folder C:\Users\mtlde\OneDrive\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X9 Data\Templates, click on the template and it opens correctly with all the settings.  My third attachment is all the templates via that path.

  4. Starting a new design, and like I have always done b4, started it from a temp-plate that I had set up for this specific builder via the File pull down.  I get the popup of "was not found".  So I checked a couple others that came with Chief and that I have not modified and get the same message (see attached).  So I followed the paths to these templates and can open a new plan via this method.  How do I get it to work via the file pull down??

  5. Here is a grab of those preferences, and even with the vid card I have, it does say 8 is the max.  Just curious though, why was 8 the max number, esp with the vid cards getting so much more advance. I know my Alien should be able to handle more.  Again, just curious.

And I want to make sure I understand everyone.. the 8 is for a camera view, BUT not a ray trace correct?  In a camera view, I might have 20 with the glow, but only 8 are really on.

Still wish, even though all but 8 lights are really not on, that the glow doesn't keep turning off when changing the material of an object or turning another light on or off.  Opening new cameras, or changing a material just to get that glow again is a little bit of a nuisance.

  6. Fancy outhouse...

Anyways, the two files I posted and you gave back to me work like they should.  BUT my existing of the same thing still did not.  So what kind of magic potion did you put on these for them to work and not be pink?

    BTW...  Thank you VERY much.

  7. nope.. that didn't work.  I loaded of GE and clipped like I always do, loaded as a backdrop.. RT one pass.. pink.

So I just opened up a project I finished last week, all with completed RT's in the folder.  I set a camera and ran a pass... pink.

So how can I adjust the texture of a backdrop?

  8. I have done hundreds of renders (Ray Traces), if not a thousand and all of a sudden my last two have had issues with a backdrop scene.  Its pink!  All is good when I delete a backdrop (1st) attachment, so slightly confused since no setting have been changed.  And it shouldn't be my system either....  I changed the backdrop to different scenes and still get that pink sky.

I attached two of the backdrops I use.  I go to google earth and screen grab the lot where home is being built.  It gives a little sense of reality IMO.  The reason I loaded here, is with trial and error, I can do the RT's with Chiefs backdrops, and a couple other google earth lot views that appear to have a darker blue sky..  I don't know.. maybe I am fishing here.  But if one you fine people can use one of these backdrops and run a quick one pass RT and see how it looks.. I would appreciate it.

OR if you happened to know why I am getting what I am getting....  that would be great too.

  9. Two things...  did not see all your gents replies, because it appears I keep getting logged out???  I know this was mentioned before on another discussion.  Guess that wasn't fixed.

And Graham, your 100% right.  This is why my builder wants this shown (in the model and on a detail).  He has already experienced the "that's what the drawing shows" on other items.

  10. Anyone have an idea on how to place a bull nose on each tread?  Besides manually using a poly x 16?

My builder is having major issues with inexperience framers and finishers, so in essence, if I don't show a nosing, they will not know to put it on.

  11. Thanks Java..

As I was getting ready to hit Rene up on Teamviewer, I saw your post.  I knew it was off by a hair.. but didn't think that would make the difference, but it did!  To test this theory, I made another exterior straight wall, with a mild offset, and windows come in fine.. but it doesn't on curved walls.  Learned something else today.

    Thanks everyone.
