  1. For some reason ,earlier when I used the double brick wall type, the "Recess into Wall" option was not active and showed as a pale grey colour. I'm guessing because I copied and pasted the wall from an older version plan ( like X7 or so) since it was not in my wall type library. I'm going too try and set up a new Double Brick wall type and see if that behaves properly.
  2. @solver, the program understands House wrap to be the sheathing layer? because I tried that trick with sheathing but it did not recognize it. I ended up as I said just fudging the wall thickness and changing the framing fill to brick.
  3. Again, thanks for steering me in the right direction. It's not really fix but a little cheating and it works. Looks much better
  4. Thanks for your replies. The situation is double brick walls in a century home. Wanted to draw them that way because of renovations. With this type of wall the "recess to sheathing" option is not active. I suppose the only way is to cheat and use a framed wall but change wall fill to angle hatch to look like brick on the plan view. No time to be anal, gotta keep moving. It just seems like a detail the program should understand.
  5. I'm having trouble trying to get the windows to place properly. The brick mould should be inset into the brick but wants to sit on top of the brick. I have had them work properly on previous drawings but for some reason I cannot figure out how to get it to work. I have exhausted every option! Any hints?
  6. Here is an Awesome example of a company which understands; if you want to sell stuff then give it to the designers https://jotul.com/int/guides/3d-library
  7. I also use Drop Box Had some issues with auto save in the beginning but the last 5 years or so it has worked perfectly for me. I work alone and only switch between desktop and laptop.
  8. Thanks for your reply's Indeed, in the symbol specs the origin offset position had defaulted to 22 ½". I'm glad that is solved. I'm still curious why I got the same curiosity with an imported colada symbol. Have had the same experience with built in refrigerators in the past. Again thanks
  9. How come when I place an appliance it snaps to a different position in camera view. As you can see in the attached images the dishwasher is placed, in this case, as a free standing object between a cabinet and a gable. On the camera it shows snapped to the wall behind. I have tried placing it in a cabinet with the same effect. When I select the front of the cabinet and assign an appliance I am instructed to resize the cabinet because the appliance is too large (which it isn't. Note: in this case I have resized a library object from 24" to 18" but when I use an 18" Miele colada model I get the same result. Have tried moving it slightly forward to break the snap but still it wants to show in the wall. If I move it to the proper place in the camera view it displays in front of the cabinets on the plan view. I have experienced this effect on a number of other plans but have always been it too much of a hurry to figure out exactly what is going wrong. I'm sure one of you has the secret of this behaviour which keeps eluding me.
  10. I have written a request to Ikea to make their products available to designers to draw into the designs. I regularly get requests from clients. Ikea's response was an apology that their own planner apparently didn't seem to be sufficient a tool. If anyone else using CA sees the usefulness of Ikea models and would take the time to write them then possibly in the future we might have access to the Ikea 3d furniture.
  11. Works perfect here. Running on laptop and desktop.

Did I misunderstand or is your machine from 1999?

  12. I also agree that a brief description of each template would be very helpful.
  13. Hey Guys Thanks for your responses. I got busy with the holidays and have been off this thread for a while. Like everything else the more I play with the stuff the easier it will get. I have learned a lot on this project and will definitely keep this thread as reference for the next project. Hope to find some time to just play around with it but finding time is a whole other topic for another thread. Best wishes for 2018! Rik
  14. This is very frustrating. When I bring the symbol in as 3DS the materials import but sizing is messed up even when I specify size. Also: some of the elements are way out of place. When I use SKP then I can get the size to cooperate but the materials won't import.
  15. Thanks I realized for the sizing I have to choose the advanced options and manually input the size when I import the file.
  16. Many websites offer 3D resources for designers (see attached example). What would be the best file type to pick for importing 3D objects? I have tried various ones but have trouble with the scale and materials.
  17. You cannot move around in a 3D view. Only look around. That’s how it works
  18. This is not as simple as it used to be since Microsoft dropped “Photosynth”. There are some apps but they are clunky. I have been looking into Flickr360 and some other 360 hosts but not getting too far. Best option is still Chief Architect web site. Here is a read: https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/how-to-share-360-degree-photos/
  19. How could I toggle off/on so they aren't automatically present every time I send a page to layout if I don't want them for a particular project?
