  1. Okay I will try that.... Didn't know you could edit the 2d block display. Thanks.
  2. A lot..... elevation views, schedules, default sets, layer sets, text styles, etc. have been added as I have learned how to set all that up. The good news is that anything I would move is a model only.... Essentially I drew and developed the model and didn't go any further from there. I just know as I develop construction drawings from the models I will want all of the things that I have added in my new template. I hope this makes some sense.
  3. I am using some stock columns from the library that have a cap and base that's wider than the actual column. Is there a way to have the columns display in plan view such that the width is the actual column and not that of the base and cap? For instance I have 8" square columns on the plan, but they show up like 12". Thanks in advance.
  4. All. What is the best way to migrate a plan/model to a newer plan template? I have several models that I have drawn that I want to move to my updated template to finish them up. I have some ideas on how I might accomplish this, but wanted to see if I could learn from someone's experience. Thanks in advance.
  5. Nevermind. I answered my own question. You select the planes and use the child tool framing icon on the context menu.
  6. All... I have a project where I want some exposed rafter tails on a bump out section of a garage. Anyway, I have the roof plans drawn and want to add my rafters. I have two questions. 1. Is there a way to add the rafters to a single roof plane? 2. When adding them manually and then copying them is there a trick to make them trim to the constraints of said plane? I am adding the king rafter.... When I copy them toward the hip they are all the same length. Seems like I am doing something wrong. As always, thanks in advance.
  7. Is there a way to have Chief extend floor joist/trusses across a bearing wall instead of breaking at the wall. In this case it would bear on each end as well as at the interior bearing wall. I know it can be done manually, but its tedious. Thanks
  8. It's for sure a collaborative effort..... There is no doubt I am better today because of you two and the other experts in this forum. Keep up the good work!
  9. ALL... Thanks for the feedback. Thanks @Steve_Nyhof for the fireplace download. I will have a look at all of these thoughts and suggestions.
  10. What catalog does everyone for great fireplace symbols? Thanks
  11. I did have to finagle things a bit. 1. pulled back sidewalk AND pulled drive through to curb. 2. Intersected sidewalk on each side of the drive. In camera view I did have to pull the walk over the curb a bit to force it to merge with the drive cut-out. THEN went bak to the plan to square things up. Once I got the first side, I mirrored the walk to the other side and repeated the process. Hope this helps.
  12. Here is the .plan file.1549850586_forCACHIEFTALK.plan
  13. is this the look you want?
  14. Might want to make sure the structural part of your roof is at least 9 1/4" to make sure it's beefy. you set this on the roof options under "Structure" on the left, "Roof Layers" >> "Structure". You also have the other roof options on that same tab under "Roof Size" that you will need to adjust as well to get that look.
  15. I had no idea about this tool. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Im going to give this a shot. Shane
  17. I didn't know there would be so many ways to pull this off. Thanks all to the great insight!
  18. That's a good idea. I will try that. Was hoping for a more technical answer.
  19. Catz Lake House Preliminary 3-6-2025.pdf Look at the street front elevation of the breezeway to the left of garage.
  20. I have some columns and beams that were created with individual 3D Solids, Is there a way to have Chief show a line where the objects intersect in elevation view? It looks unnatural now. Thanks
  21. Thanks for your responses. I think I am looking for a more casual floor plan look like the attached. The perspective straight down look in Chief is nice, but it's hard to see the details of the floor plan.
  22. What view in Chief does everyone use for marketing their floor plans? I am getting my business Facebook page setup and want to highlight the designs I am working on. Thanks
  23. I wish that you could do this with auto roofs. BUT because having a gable there to match the front will create a dead valley when it intersects the opposing roof plane you will need to do it manually. Once you get the hang of it, it's simple. Rene's video on this was super helpful.
  24. I see in the properties of the cabinet, in the "box construction" tab, cabinet corner treatment where you can round the corners. BUT you can't add drawers there that I can tell. Might have a play around with that feature to see where it leads.
  25. Post your plan if you are okay with that. I have gotten quicker solutions that way.
