  1. I have used Softplan and Chief and so far Chief is superior even with all of the issues. I have learned that certain constraints exist in all of the 3d applications with object modeling.... I surmise its because of the logic built into the intelligence of the software that govern the directives. For me, the same things that make my life easier in Chief, in other ways complicate things. Its just a matter of figuring out what directives to adjust to achieve the desired outcome. your file is in X17, so I can't open. In your posted photo, it looks like your framing is rendering taller than your trim. I would check the structure panel under the Roof dbx, to see what your structure thickness is set to. Hang in there.
  2. Thanks for posting your plan file, is the last of the mohican?
  3. I have run into something similar before. On the upper side wall, click on the wall and use the "Edit Wall Layer Intersection" tool. it will give you additional edit grips on the wall to alter the layers. in this case, you would grab the grip closest to the exterior, probably on the siding, and pull the material in the direction of where the finishes are missing. give it a go and let us how it goes. Shane
  4. Is "No Room Definition" Checked in the wall DBX? If so, uncheck it.
  5. I don't know about a catalog, but you could check https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/by/sketchupcontentlibrary and check for a specific item.
  6. Are you referring to the exposed wall above the roof just to the left of the window?
  7. Correct.... But for some reason without doing any of the adjustments above in the attached drawing, the block isn't appearing even though it seems to work in a test drawing merely by removing the soffit. Thanks for responding btw.... I am all about work arounds where its necessary, but when the program just doesn't seem to be doing what its supposed it makes me think I have a setting off somewhere.
  8. Sounds like your Lineweights toggle is turned on.
  9. Thanks Alan for having a look. Looks like what you have posted is the most common way to accomplish this. Was hoping to be able to add the closure blocking since it's the detail I used on all my drawings before Chief.
  10. Morning All... I am in the beginning stage of a project that has exposed rafter tails. I haven't done exposed rafter tails many times so, while I can get it done, I am no expert. In reviewing some of the videos on the subject I wanted to try a new approach. In the video I noticed that when removing the soffit on chief the program would automatically add a closure block underneath the eave to block of the attic from the elements. I have not been able to do that on this project no matter what combination of things I have tried when making adjustments in the roof planes dbx. I did create a new .plan and drew a sample house with a simple roof line and the program performed as the video show adding the blocking. So I know the concept works, at least in the sample drawing. When setting up my roof in my project, I set things up the way I previously set up for exposed tails so it is possible that I have a setting that is causing the blocks not generate that I am unaware off. In the attached project, automatic framing is on. Because of the complex roof it is manual. I would love to know what I am missing. Thanks I advance for having a look. Blevins.plan.zip
  11. I am with you bro.... in the same boat. I don't want a PC because it's too much work to maintain them. I just want to turn it on and draw. I will say that PCs have come a long way. I have considered that route, but I believe I am staying with apple. Shane
  12. Thanks to you both. As is usual for me.... This was hidden in plain sight. Thanks again for the direction.
  13. All On layout automatic elevation labels how do change the font for the view scale? I can change the callout and label font all day but the scale font persists and I am having trouble finding what directive is determining it. Thanks Shane
  14. Thanks for the reply.... The basement wall isn't disappearing from where the door is. Seems like the exterior brick part of the wall is tho.
  15. High shed toward the water would make that job a lot simpler for the framer. Probably look really good too.
  16. Hey all Anyone know why my exterior basement wall isn't trimming completely for the man door by the bathroom? How do I fix it? Thanks in advance. Carmichael Remodel.plan.zip
  17. A few things I was able to do on my end.... Might help you get somewhere on this issue. 1. Under the Walls DBX >> Structure >> Under "Platform Intersections" Try turning off the radio box "Invisible Walls and Railings - Generate Between Platforms" 2. Also, I created a small invisible wall on the inside edge of the railing so that the bordering wall of the hole is not the exterior railing. 3. Another thing I noticed is that the higher exterior boards are being generated by the floor depth of the particular floor, check that on the room definition of the hole. 4. Last thing I tried is just cutting a hole in the deck with a poly line and adding the stairs. A combination of these things might get you moving in a better direction. Good luck.
  18. Tony, Be sure and mark the solution on this. That way when it happens to me, or someone else, we will be able to figure out with is going on, since I know I will forget. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the help with this. You guys are awesome!
  20. Does chief have a focus or advisory group made up of users helping give them direction from a user community standpoint?
  21. Is there a way to alter the way Chief handles corner wall cleanup? I have a situation where I need a wall to come out beyond another wall to catch the end of some cabinets. The wall at the end of the cabinets needs to stick out about 4" beyond the face of the intersecting wall, BUT Chief insists on cleaning up and creating a corner. If its out about 6" its lets it be, any shorter and it creates a corner which is 99 percent of cases is the desired outcome. I know it's a small detailed thing, but it seems like there should be a way to tell chief to ignore the normal wall cleanup directives for a particular wall and let it stick out the desired amount. Thanks guys
