High School Architecture Class Teaching Chief Architect
agenoarch replied to j2narchitecture's topic in General Q & A
One idea is when you get up and running there are some the chief-guru's in this forum that my agree to do a zoom meeting here and there with the class to give some tips and trick for the students. -
Never liked the door labels because so many times client question why a 26" door and I have to explain it's 2'-6". I don't always use a door schedule and It's misleading and maybe an update for X15 is due.
-
I'm glad not the only one that has this issue, I hope the Big Wigs at Chief are listening... X14? maybe?
-
Hmmmm I will give it a try Thanks

Is it possible to create the ADA handrail termination on ramp? I don't see anyway in the railing DBX box. Thanks Sal Genovese AIA

Default "Suppress wall width" should be able to change
agenoarch replied to agenoarch's topic in General Q & A
Exactly Chris Thanks for clarifying, Maybe I should also post it on suggestions -
I posted about this a number of years ago and there is still no way to uncheck "suppress wall widths" in the dimension DBX setup. If I'm using interior dimensions on my construction drawings why would I want the wall widths to be off to begin with. This means I have to click on every interior dimension and uncheck it manually every time I create I set of plan. Something a simple as this should take priority over creating 10 more cabinet libraries, I have enough door styles. I have been a CA user since version 3 (1993) and it has come a long way especially for construction drawings. My 2 cents

Thanks for the help maybe this is wish list item and it seems simple enough for the guru's at CA to put into X12

I'm trying to change the wall hatch default from the angle hatch to a solid transparent and I can not find it anywhere and I'm tired of hatching and picking them to change it to what I want. Any help? Thanks Sal

That’s the other part of the problem I cannot get to create a room in the attic so it doesn’t have a dbx box
-
I am renovating an attic and making it a loft and how do I get sheetrock to show on the roof rafters? Thanks Sal

I have been trying to use a panel dishwasher and refrigerator and can not seem to accomplish this. The sub zero panel fridge does not let you let you change the door panel to match the cabinet door style and neither does the chief dishwasher. Not sure what I'm missing here and help appreciated.

I'd like to know this also because it's a pain to relink files when you copy a layout Sal

I did not know that trick with the mouse THANKS!!!! Old dog- new trick

I would not give a discount of more than 5%-10%. The contractor is not giving 50% off on the repeat houses he sells so why should you? If he decides not to use you and goes to some one else he/she will pay the full price for plans anyway and you didn't work for minimum wage.. The economy is booming so take advantage now keep your prices intact. My 2 cents

Wow I should have wished for the lotto numbers Thanks!!

Why is it that when we send a drawing to a layout sheet the drawing windows can only be rectangular. We should be able to break the window to modify the shape of the layout box window to exclude certain parts of the drawing. Sounds simple enough right? Sal

Is it possible to see a thumbnail images of the project layout sheets in the project browser window? So when I'm working on a plan it would be nice to see what sheet I have room on or where I want to put a detail. Most of us work with multiple monitors with the layout on one screen and the plan on another so this is a real treat if it can be done
-
Some times it's as simple as a kick in the butt. thanks

This is new, the wall intersections are not connecting. Is there something I have to change in defaults? I can not figure it out
-
Thanks a million!!! I can't tell you how many times I did it page by page

I "saved as" project folder and renamed the layout and plan file. I still have to go to each layout sheet and re-link everything to the new renamed file. Is there a way to do this when I am saving the project? Thanks

Just to add a few exceptions to F.A.R. in NYC Mechanical 50sf deduction only Garages - up to 300sf for one car and 500sf 2 car deduction Roofed- decks, porches or balconies more than 75% enclosed by perimeter walls count as F.A. All basements but not cellars

I had the same issue and found it. Go to Preferences -reset options (at the bottom) then reset side windows and restart Chief and you should be good to go

Just to add to this topic. The layout page macro is done on page "0" and a dilemma I have is when I change from "A" (Architectural) to "P" for (plumbing) or "M" for (mechanical) I have to create a new text box with solid white fill and set it on top to cover the "A" page number. It would be nice to have the macro recognize the page info from the DBX to automatically change the letter designation while still keeping the page number.
