I keep it at 100, I think that is the default, then adjust layer line weights accordingly.
Darned if I don't know what that means. How do you adjust layer line weights P?

Thanks so much for the replies. I see 2 good ways to accomplish the task would like to change the default size but this will do nicely.

Specifically a GFCI outlet's label to make it more easily read in plan view?
-
Thanks Tea, Can I assume that's a manually drawn attic wall then reshaped?
-
Not sure if Chief is capable of such a model? Any help greatly appreciated.

...and Eric (Solver), in a personal message, was kind enough to point me back to a previous thread I started with the same question. DOH!!

Yup Tea Time!! Got it Thanks so much.

Thanks Gene, the slope is very shallow, probably 1/4" - 1/2":12 so plumb rafters are not a problem and I could have sworn there was a way to do this? Thanks Again.

Can't remember how to do it? I've got an as built shallow sloped roof with the exterior walls raked to accommodate the slope with the rafter/joists running parallel to the baseline. Chief wants to run the rafters perpendicular to the baseline by default and I know there's way but can't remember how. THANKS

You seem to be suggesting that this tool is somehow broken or doing something its not supposed to do but its working exactly as intended. Its designed to clip the camera view, period. Its not a layout tool. What you seem to want is a different tool entirely. In fact, the thing you seem to be looking for is exactly the thing we already have in layout. You can already simply clip your layout box. Clipping camera views allows for removing unwanted 3D information while still allowing for CAD whereas clipping the layout box removes everything. 2 different tools for 2 different purposes. It sounds like you want 2 different clipping tools available in Plan so that you can not only clip your camera views but also clip your layout box ahead of time. Would that really be better though...you have to adjust the box either way.
I'm simply looking at the tool through different eyes and it seems to me a clipping tool should clip the view according to the clip lines presented in the elevation view. That's all. Is it the wrong way to look at things? Is it working "exactly as intended", as if anyone on this forum could possess such knowledge of that intention? Perhaps, but the question is entirely moot as I now understand the tool and how it works, intended or not, and hopefully your explanation and the information provided in this thread will help someone understand the function just a little bit better.

...and I think adjusting the template plan will help in the future...

When sending an elevation I just zoom in on what I want to send and hit Current Screen. Usually have to adjust only one side.
The 'feature' works really well once understood, and once understood, none of that is needed but I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so will thrash through.....

I think its entirely intended. It's sending everything that's being displayed in your view. This gives us the ability to create a clipped view and then annotate or otherwise dress up the view with CAD/Text objects that extend outside the clipped area. If you don't want the various CAD in your view I would argue that it probably shouldn't be there at all. If you need to leave it there and would like only the clipped area to send to layout, maybe try turning the unwanted layers off before sending or group selecting and cutting the objects to your clipboard before sending. Then when you're done sending the view, Paste Hold Position.
Thanks Michael and perhaps you're right but I think a Clipped View>Clip Elevation should be 'Clipped' and limited to the data inside the clipped box and NOT send "everything that's being displayed in your view" as if the clipped box has no real relevance as to the data/info being sent to Layout. One man's opinion and easy to deal with once the behavior is understood.

Which makes me wonder why the 'feature' is even included for elevations as it will send all of the data that's on the page pretty much no matter whether or not the 'Clip Elevation' box is checked or not and no matter where the clipped lines are located. I don't think this is intended behavior.
I would like to see the clipped lines box be honored and send only the info in that box to Layout. I sent it in to tech.
-
Figured it out. There's a conflict between the Clipped View and Send Options>Entire Plan/View. When sending Entire Plan/View it sends all of the items in the view whether inside the clipped box or not.
-
It seems I have all the settings correct and also works when 'clipped to room' is selected but the Elevations don't seem to 'clip' as expected. Any help greatly appreciated.
-
Looks like this is addressed in the newest update. Thanks Chief.
2.19 3D Views • Fixed an issue that could cause elevation views to be extremely zoomed in when opened from layout.

Also curious, what's the purpose of the "Clip Elevation" setting if not intended to send that 'clipped' view to Layout?

Open your Camera Specification and study your Scene Clipping options for a minute.
Thank Michael, apologies for the late reply, been out of town. I think I see the setting you are referring to but can't seem to get what I'm looking for? Missing something as usual? or is what I'm asking for not doable at this stage in X15? Thanks

I know there's few new Layout Box features but was wondering if there's way to send an elevation to Layout 'clipped' to the elevation clip lines?
-
Thanks Joe, been working on this all morning with no solution worth the effort. I'll make sure the dims are close and the printed dims are overridden to show the proper dimensions.
-
Maybe I should just get them close and over ride the dims for the plans? Has to be a way!
