  1. I have 2 buildings and the story pole seems to want to pull the correct data from one larger existing home (that will not be changed and is not part of the submittal) and not so great off the separate smaller building that is in the submittal scope of work. I'd like to pull the story pole info off the smaller building but it's not cooperating.

For the love of God, give us improvements to the stair tool. Real improvements…not new flashy unnecessary add-ons.

All the other new features are appreciated…;)

X16 will probably follow the path of most other upgrades and include some amazing features that will help improve work flow and others that no one has ever 'suggested' or wanted (too many for me personally to list) but may prove to be useful. As usual hope is high and expectations low...:)

To add to your findings, a suggestion might be to make a copy of the outer wall, and change the fir framing to stucco.

This works well in lieu of a solid railing with a cap.  The rail wall appears to be all stucco.

    Thanks V

Let us know what part is stumping you so that we can hopefully get you pointed in the right direction. There aren't to many steps to copy this. Here's a quick, ugly example but when I run into similar stairways I typically do a good portion of the work in an elevation view using some quick cad lines as a reference and to give snapping points to get the wall slope right.

Make that stairwell it's own room with a room divider at the foot. Manually bring down one corner of the adjacent wall to slope it to match the stairs. It should be very similar to building out any stairwell inside of a home.

Potentially easier is to break up the wall, make the sloped portion a solid railing, and set it to follow stairs. I have issues occasionally with this so I often revert to manually moving it.

Thanks Ethan it does indeed look easy but brain's just not grasping the technique. I'll try again.

  5. Dam, it looks so simple and appears to be so

    What condition is the problem?

Sorry I thought the pic illustrated he condition and can't seem to figure out how to execute same. It's a second story deck with stairs that drop down the outside wall. Just can't grasp the method needed.

Yes it's just the Inner line so it shows in Plan View

    * it's not a good idea Larry to add layers of Paint on Walls ......as Chief only wraps the outer most layer around the ends etc of walls....

instead take the RGB No# from your ADU-Beige Color and use it for the Drywall's Color instead of Chief's default Beige.

    M.

Thanks, in the almost 25 years I've used Chief I've never, ever, used a paint layer. Didn't like the idea and won't use it again.

You can always pick up adapters, though if your monitors don't have a hdmi then you're going to have some pretty sub-par imaging.
3080 would be fine though the 4070 is a better option. Maybe wait just a bit so we can take a look at x16 beta whenever it comes out

Thanks very much Rene! Yeah, had my eye on the 4070ti and I really only need one of my 3 monitors to meet modern enough specs. to view any RTRT renders. Thanks again.

Can't believe we're on the eve of X16 though March seems like a likely release time frame to me.

I just looked at Newegg and they still have cards with Cyber Monday discounts, but ending soon as it's now Thursday.  (act fast!)

I'll let others recommend a card, but I have a Nvidia RTX 3080, which works well for me.

    Jim

Thanks Jim, pretty confusing out there and I have some legacy monitors that I need to make sure are compatible with the new display port and HDMI cards.

  9. I remember this plan from a Week or so ago, I think something that wasn't mentioned was when changing floor thickness like you're doing, you want to lock the Bottom of the platform, forcing it to build Up

By default it keeps the top of the structure, i.e., the Floor, at the default floor height, pushing the structure down, potentially messing up the ceiling heights below

This was Soooo helpful. Not sure I really knew what that setting was for!

    FYI

Unless you provide a Backup .zip file, the PDFs won't be inherently embedded with the file.

     image.thumb.png.3a38e5327d21c3efeb5fb90507cc3b6f.png

You can mark them to be Saved with the file though

    image.thumb.png.03e2832fb5a85acb1e525591cb33e1e9.png

This obviously causes the .plan file's size to get pretty big though so I don't recommend it.

Onto the actual trouble here -- first issue you have to solve before anything is this:

    image.thumb.png.f3016b8973f01c224c6e769f06e9f76c.png

You can hunt it down but honestly if you've been fighting it I'd probably just reset them all. You can do this easiest through Edit> Reset to Defaults. Set All Rooms Floor Heights/Ceiling Heights, then essentially start over.

I would reset, start on Floor 0 and move your way up.

    VERY helpful Tea. Thanks

I find X15 randomly change floor elevation in some rooms. I keep having to go in a few times and set floor level to default.

Question, why would you build framing if you’re still trying to get your floor levels correct?

As René, mentioned, do you have an image or pdf of the levels you’re trying to mimic?

Very cool design by the way, looks like a nightmare… lol

Thanks Michael and same here with the random floor levels changing and in this case the framing forms some of the floor levels I'm trying to accomplish. See section pic above.

there are no saved images in your cross sections or notes for what you are trying to accomplish, just an FYI

Thanks Rene, I've attached a screen shot of the second floor plan view with the section I'm trying to duplicate. Perhaps Picture/PDF boxes Layer is not turned on?

It depends on the dialog box.  Some controls will round to the nearest 1/16" no matter what you type in.

Also, you can change the "number style" to decimal inches to see what the real number is.

Thanks, so I guess you did know that :D I had that happen, rounding to the nearest 1/16 as shown in the dbx, but the value was 1/32 or 1/64. I'll keep that in mind because I know it will come up.
