  1. Happens all the time when a wall looks connected but is not. Check every connection or as Tommy suggests with room def.
  2. Thanks Gene, Will probably proceed exactly as you have suggested.
  3. Thanks Johnny, Will probably use the detail posted by Gene above but as far as modeling I think I worked it out with auto-framing with 9 1/2" TJI's which creates a fascia, though too large because apparently Chief won't trim to the sub-fascia using TJI's. Then I pulled each rafter/joist back to the bearing wall and manually placed the sistered rafter members which butt to the fascia which was now the proper (sub fascia measurement) size after the TJI had been moved back. That last bit pleasantly surprised me.
  4. I need to frame the roof with 9 1/2" TJI's but want a 2 X 6 rafter tail to match existing construction. I was trying get Chief to 'notch' the TJI down to 2 x 6 but I'm guessing this won't happen from the experiments I've tried with different roof framing members. Usually Chief will take the sub-fascia measurement and apply it to the rafter tail and size it accordingly, leaving the main rafter at the specified size. It seems to only work with 'Lumber' and not 'I-joists'. I guess you would use a sistered on framing member if you wanted to change sizes and wouldn't cut an I-joist in the real world. Maybe Chief is that smart? I was trying to do a quick roof framing plan, but looks like will have to add sistered member manually which is what I was trying to avoid. Curious.
  5. That's what I'm thinking too. What might we be missing Joey?
  6. ...and I forgot to mention I printed from a PDF file so no problem here with that file. I know that doesn't help much - hope you get it sorted. Did you contact tech support?
  7. Joey, Didn't that require selecting each item and changing the color in Layout View? And wouldn't those changes be lost if you updated the Layout View? Truly curious as to your work flow, and it seems the new tool adds quite a bit of ease to the process. Am I mistaken?
  8. I opened the Layout and printed on my Brother 6490. See attached
  9. Don't know what poly only screen entities are??
  10. Am I safe in assuming you/he has a left handed mouse?
  11. I'll try that out Scott - love my hot keys so shouldn't be too much of a stretch to learn.
  12. Here's the very definition of OT. Read the first post - then the last. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3542-x7-availability-for-ssa-users/
  13. Oh yeah white fill to lighten the lines to taste - nice.
  14. Sweet Alan. This could be the best of X7 - for me and the way I work. Curious, did you just place, by hand, a transparent PLine over the elevation?
  15. Couldn't agree more Johnny but was wondering if you are using X7 and more specifically are you using the ALDO? I'm asking because I was super excited about the feature but find I'm not using it - at all. Not sure why I can't/won't work it into my work flow but it's too big (even though I have 2 monitors) and can't be resized to after showing only a couple columns and just seems awkward to use in every day practice. Was wondering what others' experiences were
  16. Off Topic is the way I use it.
  17. A little OT but Adam your designs look great! I've been leaning toward a more abstract presentation myself and your direction might help me decide.
  18. It's been affectionately called the ALDO and I thought it was uber cool as well but I've noticed I simply don't use it. Saddened a bit by that and maybe it will get worked into my routine but for some reason it goes unused. Maybe that will change. As I've posted the transparent fills are great and the continue same line type is awesome. Draw a line and you can continue to draw that line with a handle that wasn't there previously. Great for CAD work. Cabinets have been improved but overall I don't need/use most of the new features. But having said that the release is just 'better' than it was before in small incremental ways that really helps work flow.
  19. Here's an example. Really opens up some possibilities.
  20. Hey Todd, Here's a pretty simple detail but I was able to 'transparent a couple fills like the cross hatch and strap fill to show some detail behind and to lessen the impact of the cross hatch fill. Super simple detail but can see lots of possibilities.
  21. Awesome Lew! I called and complained personally. Don't know if it had any effect but glad you're on board.
  22. ... I can't believe we went so long without it. I just created a detail and I was able to 'shade' a couple of fills that really made the detail a lot easier to read. I can see using it in elevations, plan views and all over the place. I'll use this tool a LOT.
