  1. New one is too rich for my blood but I did take advantage and order a 1 year old one from a guy who is buying the new one.  Got a pretty good deal for a 10 core 3.4-4 with 32 Gb memory and a 512 hd with dual GPUs

  2. @dshall  Did a two part video on youtube about this.  He is awesome because he figures it out on the video for you showing you the mistakes of how not to do it in the program and they are very informative.  I just watched this one the other day.

Here is a link for part 1

  3. I have seen it before from the cabinet maker and the one I was working with came up with a good idea.  He did a false double door with mulling it together from the back so that from the front it looked like two cabinet doors but swung large like one big door.  Looked better and hasn't warped after 12 years (bro-in-law's house).

  4. So official word from tech support is that the program is built to automatically “mull” units in its characteristics such as use the same moldings once it gets within 6”.  They agreed this could be an issue and have submitted a request To rework this option with a possible option to toggle it on and off.

post pics using the Windows Snipping Tool,  and post the images direct to the Forum (C&P) and I think you'll get more answers , downloading and saving then viewing PDFs is too much of a hassle for many.

The Plan or an example plan with the same issue would help too / be best.

Thanks for the tip.  So the forum will put png or jpeg files in the post?

I recently created a video on this topic...

I was awaiting some info from the architect on something else so had not finished this and I am having an issue.  Maybe someone can assist?

I get it to show fine for each window but when the windows are closer than 6" apart (he is specifying 3.5") the Lintel from the center window (palladian setup) goes down the casing to meetup with the shorter flanking windows.  Unless I show them 6" apart it stays that way.  The two side windows have a 6" with header trim top lintel and the center has an 8" with header trim top.

Am I missing something or is this a bug???

    TIA for the great advice.

  7. So I don’t have as much time using the software as I started with Chief with x10 (hdpro before that). But I have been using two separate machines since I started.  First was with hdpro exclusively with a MacBook Air and had no problems.  Upgraded to a 2018 MacBook Pro with 8gb ram and I use an external egpu when at my desk.  From x10 to X11 on the same machine I noticed extreme differences in speed of especially panning.  When I upgraded for the first two weeks it would constantly crash if I tried to do a 2nd overview or elevation view (even closing the first before starting the second time it would crash constantly.). Something worked out (I am guessing it was a OS X update.). I no longer get as many crashes although they do occur still occasionally but usually after some time of working with a plan and doing lots of different views.  I am hoping it is something that is happening with OS X to get it fixed.

One weird thing that happened yesterday is I got a pop up while working in a layout saying that layout will soon be incompatible with OS X as it is a 32bit program...  it made it look like layout was a separate program running???  But I believe Chief is a 64 anyways so I haven’t reported it yet.

one thing that I did notice and may help a little is that if my auto Time machine starts running in the background it will extremely slow down not just chief but also two other on-screen takeoff programs I use for construction estimating.  May help to check if it is running when you experience the issues?

Feel your pain and I am hopeful it will get worked out!

Each of those is done with a wrapped molding.

Note:  Attach your images, don't attach a link that must be downloaded.

Sorry I thought I did.  Doing it from my phone  and must have done it wrong.

a wrapped molding as in design the profile with cad tools and add it as a molding.  I did that but I can’t make it do two separate trims that only one of them extends 1” and the other doesn’t...  am I missing something?

  9. I have been searching and haven’t found the answer to this.  I have an architect I am working with (hand drawings) that is very specific on how his exterior molding show.  I know I can do this manually with poly line solids but I am hoping there is a way to do this within the window dbx.  I am guessing I can also do it with a poly line room molding setting removing it around all the non window portions at least for the headers.

    he is looking for:

sill: a canted sill with a 1” overhang and a 2 3/4” square apron not overhanging

lintel: 5/4x6 square no overhang with a 2x3 square top piece with a 1” overhang.

I am attaching his hand drawing of what he wants to see on the drawings.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    warm regards,

    RG

  10. Oh, ok gotcha, I guess I am used to hearing pony wall as well.  Which technically I don't think that is correct either as that usually refers to a wall split with two materials.  Thank you for the clarification.  Always good to know regional expressions when dealing with clients in different areas.

May be knee wall staircases, so you don't have to use ramps... Nuh doubt it.

Ok I am probably misunderstanding this but I cannot figure out exactly what you are referring to???

As I understand the term knee wall it is the short walls in an attic space to the rafters or can even refer to the wall created inside of a storage/attic truss that are not full height.  Must be another definition, maybe a regional terminology thing?

    Macro "year"

    • t = Time.new
    • result = t.year

returns the current year  --> 2019 as a numerical value

    • result = result.to_s

    returns a character string --> "2019"

I obviously am doing something wrong because it isn´t coming out right.  What would i need to paste in there exactly to make it work. I have been trying to watch videos to figure this out but I am obviously missing a step.

  13. Holding Cntrl (PC) or CMD (MAC) will allow you to move "freely" wherever you need it.  Also you can toggle on and off ortho mode with the angle snap button.  Can always set a hotkey for that control.

  14. Hi everyone, hope you are having a wonderful week so far.  I was setting up a new layout for a builder I am doing more and more work for and went to type in my ©2019 when I thought...  I wonder if there is a 4 digit year macro I can put in there so I don't have to change that every year on all my layouts???   I am new'sh to macros so still have a ton to learn.  I couldn't find it in the chief macros and I did search here on the forum but have not found it.

Anyone know what it is?  TIA for all your continued help and support.  You guys are amazing! :)

  15. I agree that the covered patio roof area looks a little off for that style of home.  Have you considered as was mentioned lowering it to a 2.5:12 pitch and pitching it away from the house instead of side to side.  It should connect properly and have a very small cricket roof to make sure that it drains properly.  Just a thought without getting into the plan.
