    Hi everybody,

Can someone tell me why I have this ceiling exceeding above the railing wall, and how to fix that issue please.

Also, I can't modify the drywall color of the triangle on the railing to give it the same white of the rest. There is no mention of drywall in the DBX materials list. I've cover it with a backsplash, but I would prefer to fix the problem at the source.

    Thanks in advance!

Post the plan, but most likely you have an "attic wall" misaligned to the railing wall.

I cannot find where to do this.  Gimme a hint, please.  I'd like to do it in defaults so as not to have to go wall by wall already built.  I can change the material to OSB vertical in the default for exterior wall sheathing, but where is the key for the size?

You'll probably want to make a new material with this new size definition.

BTW you can also do this with drywall by defining your sheet size for 4x8, 4x12, 4.5x12, 5x12, etc.

    Hello all,

I am working on a project that has some exterior stairs and I'm finding that they don't show up on any floor, other than the floor on which they were created, unless they are contained within a "room" that is designated as "open below".  This works to show the stair, however, it has some adverse effects on the railings.  I don't love how railings are displayed in CA, especially where they connecdt to stairs, but adding this "open below" room, makes them worse.  Any ideas on how to resolve this, or is what I've done the best way?

A quick search will find you the answer.  The overall consensus is using a reference display of the stairs.

See photo...can we do this with out current window dbx options? Not in front of computer to try it out
    image.thumb.png.af1c851399d48b8b9197d2c00abd1644.png

    Hmmm...

Not at the computer but would it follow a roof even if it’s a “negative radius”?  Not 100% in the dbx technically but at the same time yes…

  5. First advice would be to fill out your signature so we can see what you are working with.  Assuming that you are using Chief Architect Premier which is what this forum is geared towards I will give some more advice on your need.  However in the future this will help get you more answers and quicker.

Second advice is to save copies of your files so you don't mess up a main file while you are experimenting (which is one of the best ways to learn terrains).

Typically you do the terrain work in the same file as the model.  It tends to be best so you can see how it works.  However if you are trying to test it out.  You can take a 3d rendering of the house and turn off any layers you don't want to see such as concrete slabs, etc.  and there is an option to make a 3d symbol of the house which will be added to your library.  You can then place that symbol on your terrain where you want it.  It is not able to be changed other than painting textures to replace the existing but it will allow you to maneuver your terrain in 3d to see what it will look like.  For the actual site plan or plot plan just use 2d cad of the terrain.

We would like some help with renderings for a primary bathroom remodel. We can create the plans, but would like assistance with nice looking renderings. If interested, please email office@gaylerdesignbuild.com. We are located in California.

    Hello,

i do have some problems with small corners 400mm by 400mm,

When I have them right, and i want to change something else on the other side of the wall, the corner will be automatic delete.

Even locking walls does not make a differents.

changing wall connecties does also not fix the problem.

try with different layout of walls, i notices only that the problem is more when the thickness of the wall is bigger.

    problem.thumb.png.2a6cc301821675555e0b4991ecc00386.png

The problem is in any versions of chief architect.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Try a grid of room dividers to allow the walls to snap to them.

We are a home builder. Have probably 50 house plans that default Garage Right. We recently switched to pre-made cabinets and have done all the needed cabinet elevations for the homes. But all of the homes can and need to be build Garage Left at times. So we have to have the flip of all the interior elevations which number about 300+. I can flip all of the plans in about 8-10 hours. But I have to go through and replace ALL of the cameras because there is no flip feature. And at this rate it is going to take days, if not weeks to complete,  the project. I've been in this field for 30 years with 98% of that time in AutoCAD. IMO, not being able to flip the camera is a huge mistake and on the part of the developers for Chief. As the person wrote previously, It is a MAJOR productivity killer.

You can reverse the camera by using the reverse plan tool and by selecting the cad work in the elevation and using replicate about you flip the information pretty quickly.

Another option would be to do a cad detail from view and replicate about from the other plans but I guess without seeing what your elevations look like I am not able to give more specific advice for it.  I don't think it is as hard as you are saying to do what you want but that is quite possibly because you are doing something different that I am not understanding.

    Very old thread here.

But it sounds like you have a specific use case that there might be a solution to.  However I am not 100% sure I am following your issue.  Can you explain more what you want and/or are doing, maybe some pix?

I'm not going to claim I've got the best method, but for simple rectangular items like this, I'll use a beam. Obviously I place it on an appropriate layer and adjust the schedule reporting if needed. The reason is simple. You can edit a beam or other framing member in section view!!

Often an actual beam needs to be wrapped. This is easily accomplished in section view by copying (pick your method) and then it's dimensions can be dragged / tabbed or adjusted through the dialog.

If I needed a more complex profile, I would use a molding line / polyline.

I agree sometimes an invisible wall just complicates especially if there are some close adjacent ones.  Another method is that you set a 2nd surface to the ceiling plane and make it 24" deep and set at the upper level.  Downside is that it will not show the lower portion of the bulkhead wall in the ceiling as the other surface will go to the outside of the "bulkhead wall"  So a beam as Robert mentions can be useful.

So I've been working in X15 today for the first time.  I upgraded an X14 plan, and X15 has inadvertently shut down on me 5 times in the last 3 hours.

Is X15 unstable?  Anyone else experiencing instability on Mac Ventura 13.6?  Or am I the lucky one.

I am on Ventura but 13.2.1 and haven't had any issues with crashing other than a corrupt plan from a client that crashed it.

    Hello!

I constantly struggle when building a half wall with glass and a shower door.  I want to hinge the door off a full height wall on one side and have the other side be a pony wall with glass. I can't figure out how to do this without running the pony wall all the way through.  Then it cuts of my tile in the jamb and won't let me manipulate it!  Help!!  See the image attached.

    Shower Walls.jpg

You need to break the pony wall and change the curb height through the pony wall height where the door goes adjusting your railing height accordingly.

How would you go about creating an interior storefront similar to the one in the attached image? Everything I have tried so far is quite clumsy.

    Image20230915154020.png

As Eric is alluding to in his messages there are many ways to accomplish this but one of the easiest is not overcomplicating it and using a single material wall (say color-White) and placing windows with arches and matching roof shape...

Thanks Ryan,    Yes I have made adjustments as others have suggested in other threads to the drawing sheet line weight scale all the way from 1/50mm to 1/1000mm and it makes no difference to this situation.

I found out very late last night that printing with "Adobe PDF" driver does seem to handle the line weight issue but then makes a mess that must have something to do with line endcaps so I am not really any further ahead.

Gotcha.  Any chance you tried viewing the pdf in another pdf viewer?  I don’t know if that would make a difference but id does with other pattern issues for some people…

    Greetings Colleagues,

First time poster, here. I've been using Chief for many years, but I'm just coming back from having several years off and I'm afraid I'm a bit rusty.

I have two clients who are both wanting this type of raised roof and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make Chief do it. I've made a mess of both roofs trying it. Can anyone help me?

I would offer to help on this as I am the one that assisted the original designer of this house to get the roof correct but that would be violation of design copyright infringement…. Perhaps you have permissions from that designer to copy their plan?

I am not sure I have had this issue before but can't seem to be able to send a line weight less than about 16 to PDF.  Even a 1 or a 0 prints out the same as a 16.  Printing at 600 dpi. with Chief Architect Save As PDF and a  Drawing Sheet line weight of 1= 1/100 mm.  Even 4000 dpi. does not have any improvement.  Layout Line scaling or not gives the same result.

Have you tried changing your drawing sheet line weight scale to 1:150mm? I find that gives a little more control.

Hi, we are Architects, and we use Chief X15 for our residential projects. The problem is, we are not very good at and and often have to go to sites like Fiverr to have some detail work done, however that has its problems as the users are from other country's, mostly and don't understand the local codes, and simple instructions etc.

I need help with a site plan and grading plan, we just cannot get the Topo plans to work properly, and clean up the plans ect. We have only been users for a year. Dose anyone know a freelancer who could help, we are in Northern California?
