Good morning,
I've been using the terrain tools more and more and enjoying them, but still run up against terrain blips / squiggles at abrupt grade changes.
I suppose Chief is calculating grade and is freaking out a bit...
Couple of questions:
-
I understand Chief terrain is modeled realistically as a curved "drape" (for lack of a better term). But, is there a setting that simplifies the terrain model and treats it more as "folded planes" with sharp creases rather than complex curves? For my purposes, not having a complex curved terrain would be perfectly okay.
- If not, does anyone just skip the terrain tools and use 3D solids? I'd be interested if this is a passable technique.
Thanks again,
Jim
Your terrain information is too close together.

Not positibve you can do this in HDP as this is the forum for Chief Architect Premier. But look to see if in your room DBX in the general panel under floor structure if you can add more than just the 4" of concrete floor to the structure and add the 1" or 2" Rigid Insulation under the concrete layer.

Reason? I had them in porch but the owner wants them placed there for furniture reasons.
As mentioned because you are now placing the load from the porch roof in the middle of those two windows. You now will have oversized headers which may cause issues with energy efficiency but now will most likely require four point load bearing footers instead of just two. Just adding a few thousand dollars to the build. But if that is what the client wants and they understand that by all means go with it.

Engineer is going to hate you on that one.

Hey Experts.
Before I reach out to @ChiefArchitect about this, I though I might try here first.
I have a client who wants me to show a specific scenario on floor plan where I extend the stile on a cabinet, but the drawer face covers it. I've accomplished this task, but I want to show this particular drawer open so the client can see what we are proposing. Doing so though makes the drawer open in my elevations as well. Does anyone have a way to show it open on floor plan and closed in elevation - without drawing the lines myself?
Thanks
Open it in plan mode. Do a cad detail from view and copy/block the cad work of the open cabinet and paste in place on the plan view. Then close the cabinet so it shows correctly in your elevation view.

Every once in awhile when I'm working in the camera mode the screen gets "digitized" for lack of a better word. I'm running Chief on Mac and connected to a second screen. I think this also will happen when not connected to a second screen. It happens on the second screen I have at home as well. What is happening?
1.) Plug your laptop in as its using the UHD graphics card instead of the AMD card.
2.) Set chief to only use the AMD GPU regardless of power settings. (quick google search https://support.apple.com/en-us/102265#:~:text=If you want to use,is in Energy Saver preferences.)

Is part of the symbol sticking into the wall?

Use a reference display to show exterior stairs.

By chance when you said scanned into chief you used a service such as Canvas to scan a project and had them provide the .plan file to use in chief? If this is what you mean by your description the file you received does not have the same settings/configurations as your template plan. In this case you are seeing they do not have a site or terrain saved plan view.

I aimed to use a simple soffit detail to shower a sloped shower floor base for drainage to a linear drain. However, I need the slope to run side to side not back to front. From what I can tell, the soffit detail only lets you specify drop front to back.
How would you build this detail into your plan to show the angle in plan view so it renders properly and details in a wall elevation as well. I need to also show the 3/8" tile on top of this. in an elevation view.
Using X15.
Thanks!
Lots of ways to do this but if you want to stay with the soffit turn the soffit 90 degrees.

Thanks, I was able to see the signatures for a little while on my mobile device but recently they disappeared. I will try with another device to see if they show up.
Edit: I can see them with Windows Surface Pro.
Turn your phone or tablet to landscape mode.

How will the shelf deck which wraps the sides and has rounded front corners be addressed if doing sides as doors?
The cabinet is still squared off but that rounded portion is the custom door which has a corner missing for all intents and purposes...

Hey Chief...
I recently bought a laptop to keep the business going, since my desktop STILL hasn't been fixed by Dell. Supposedly tomorrow, hoping so. My question is, this toggling back and forth to transfer my lone license is a PITB, when do you plan on having a sale for a person who needs a second license and who is current on his SSA?
Thanks
You can no longer purchase an outright license. You would need to subscribe to a new license. You might be able to contact sales to see if they have a break for multiple licenses with a hybrid setup since you would have a legacy license and a new subscription license.

Trying to decide whether or not to upgrade my current MBP and would love any feedback if you've used x15 on the new MacBook M3 (Pro) chip. I'm particularly interested in how PBR is looking. Thanks!
Are you asking about PBR or PBR RTRT? PBR is still doable at least on the m1 and m2 chips. Not sure if anyone has reported on m3 yet as it is very new. RTRT is not currently supported by chief however is available in a competing software starting with the m1 chips. The issue is the compatibility with the rendering engine Chief uses and the apple silicone architecture. Kind of same reason why it is only a subset of nvidia and AMD GPUs that can do the RTRT as well. Regular PBR still works though.

Tons of different methods, simple one, place a cad line, then use the point to point move tool on both Surveys and snap to that CAD line
Or use a temporary marker but same concept.

You could also make your wall type material "opening (no material)" as the floor joist area is as Ryan says - filled with your wall layer materials.
That will cause issues in vector views. Not having anything in the exterior layer is the way to fix this.

Change your deck railing wall type to a single layer wall. It’s the drywall or siding layer trying to build through to the next level below.

Use a roof beam or a symbol.
BUT... Do you really need to show the failed beam like that? Could annotation on the plans to fix sunken column so Bearing beam is level suffice?

I don't FB , never have, so I would never see this , but he hasn't been back here since post this yest. , if it was solved on FB , he coold of posted back here so people weren't wasting their time replying .
This is why one reason I think Chief shuld just include the Version under everyone's Avatar, it would be Soooo Muuccch easier..... especially since they insist on sending Home Designer Users to the Chief Forum instead of their own - Hometalk Forum.
M.
I answered his question in FB as it’s a bit different how he asked it. He hasn’t acknowledged that post either…

I read a post a while back about someone who created a block of a whole building to drop it into another plan. I need to do that and was wondering how that is done. I tried 'selecting all' in both plan view and 3D camera mode and nothing happens. Has anyone does this before?
Thanks!

I need to change the incremental numbers on a cabinet schedule so that the schedule matches the numbers assigned by the cabinet manufacturer. The default schedule increases by increments of 1 (1, 2, 3 or 101, 102, 103, etc.). The cabinet manufacturer assigns the cabinets numbers that increase by increments of 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc.). Is there a way to change the schedules so that the automatic "Number" column increases by 10s instead of 1s? I know I can manually input a custom column (which I did below in the "Code" column) for each cabinet, but I'm trying to find an automated way to achieve this because I have 70 + cabinets).
Yes. By using a new object identifier column where you would input "%schedule_number%0" in that value and then add that column and rename it as #. You will need to group select all of your cabinets and add that info to all of them but they can be done all at once.

Too close together. Put the different elevation lines or regions on either side of the retaining wall with a break in the middle of the wall. Too close together will cause the spikes.
