Thanks! I figured as much, and it make sense that if a user isn't keeping their SSA active they probably aren't doing enough business/using the software enough to turn things around quickly.
Exactly the point. Doesn’t mean there aren’t users out there that don’t keep up with and can do the work you need. It is just a general indicator.

Im so confused, this should not be that complicated.
All of these Idea's will work but they all casue other complications.I personally don’t use the no material in the wall definition as I find it is more troublesome but what is the issue you are having with the method making the wall thickness wider and making sure the newell and rail is not set to use wall thickness?

1.)Didn't open the plan but you can see in your pic the extra material on your balusters as well. My guess is you are using a flooring texture instead of a seamless wood texture.
2.) Use an invisible wall for the deck edge and then place a railing inside that (you may have to place it away from the edge then precision move it close to the edge (also the railing wall may need to be marked as a partition wall depending on what your current railing settings are.
Not sure what is up with downvote. 1. is correct. I didn't need to open your plan to see it in your pix. 2. will work but I agree that Robert's suggestion is better.

Better technique. Make the wall Wider but don't have newell set to be wall thickness. NOTE you will need to make the Wall larger by double what you want the setback. So if its a 4" wall and you want it 4" back from the edge you will make the wall thickness 12" and the newell 4"... Rough numbers for demonstration only. The wall/newells will be centered in the wall thickness but the deck will build to exterior of wall.

If you have an X14 .plan/.layout files, will an older version of Chief be able to open them? I presume there would be little to no compatibility here because it can be difficult to make older versions of the software future proof. The older version would have no knowledge of any new capabilities.
I'm asking because if I were to farm out additional work to somebody, I presume they would need to also be on X14 like I am. If they were on say, X12, there would be issues?
Cody
Forward compatibility only. Once a plan is opened and SAVED in a newer version it can no longer be opened in a previous version. But if you are farming out your work to someone who does not stay current and have SSA Personally for me that is a red flag regarding their experience level with the software. Not always but it can be someone who doesn't use it every day like the users who stay current.

Hello Freinds!
Any help would be appreciated. Plan file is attached
ANA Deck.zip
Question 1:
I cant figure out why the post appear to have some extra materials attached to them.
Question 2:
I would like to extend the deck past the post a few inches, not sure how to acheive that?

Just today the program refuses to load. The chief window opens up and the loading icon starts rotating and just keeps rotating but the program never loads. Eventually I open the task manager which reports the program as "not responding". Under problem details it reads AppHangB1. I've uninstalled and reinstalled chief several times but the problem persists in the exact same way. all other programs operate fine so it's not the laptop.
If I try loading the program in another laptop it might lock me out as I was not able to sign off on the current laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to try?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an operating system issue.

Has anyone had trouble with pixilated camera views in PDF layouts on the M1? I just moved to an M1 from an intel based MacBook and am having trouble with layout clarity in the photos after the layout is sent to PDF. I have not had trouble yet in the layout BEFORE I try to export to PDF and things are working okay in the camera views of the plan. See below. Thanks for the help in advance!
Probably a difference in your gpu. That being said, PC, Mac, or anything I don't reccommend sending live camera views to layout... Export them as a png and import them into layout. much cleaner and smaller template file size.

Does anyone know of a way to create a murphy bed that will open and close similar to a cabinet?
Tips & Techniques is where you share with others your tips & techniques. You should put this type of question in the Q&A section
It is easy to make a murphy bed make a symbol out of a bed and make it as a millwork symbol. Use a bottom hinge door and on the back of that door use that symbol as a back of door attachment.

Use a pony wall set to 0 height for the lower wall. Right now the glass wall is building down there which looks like a gap.

I know what I charge for my construction services but what is a good price for something like this per hour?
A professional architectural designer averages from $90-135 per hour.

Is there a particular Lidar app I should be looking for that will develop floorplans from the scans? Just got the new IPAD Pro and ready to try new things for my renovations.
You might want to reread this entire thread.

Believe it or not that second story jut out with the shed roof is like 7' away from the first floor front exterior wall if I understand you correctly. It's an illusion.
Without seeing the plan I couldn’t tell you for sure but what I suspect is the walls you were trying to change which set back slightly from the middle section were not aligned properly with a foundation wall below. So, since there wasn’t a wall above the foundation wall Chief was automatically putting one there. Attic walls will shoot through a regular wall and you will have one material that won’t change because it’s the wall behind it. So in your case when you rebuilt the foundation it aligned those walls and fixed the issue getting rid of the extra attic wall that was “hiding” the actual wall.

Your foundation wall was not aligned properly so you had an attic wall there going up to the roof from the misaligned foundation wall.

Search the help files for layers and layer sets and read up on default settings.

Hello Charchitects,
I've used some of the preset macros to make some detailed window labels for my construction plan sets. I'm noticing however that, although my input in the specification dialog for some of my windows is, for example, 25 in, the resulting label has an added 1/32". How can I adjust the smallest fraction that is being picked up by this macro? I definitely don't want things to be measured down to 1/32nd.
Here are the macros I'm using:
%schedule_number% - R.O. %width% X %height% %type_code% SH %bottom_elevation% - HH %header_elevation%
I'm concerned about the %bottom_elevation% and %header_elevation% units. Everything otherwise seems fine.
You are not placing your windows exact or you are using Metric instead of imperial dimensions to place it. If you are holding control/Cmd. and moving the window in 3d or in plan placing it by not using dimensions then even thought the dimension may show it at 11'-2 1/4" it is probably actually at 11'-2 9/32" or so but the dimension is set to round.

Have you turned it off and on again?
Is it plugged in?
Sorry couldn't resist the typical IT questions. But sometimes a restart will do the trick.

- you could create a thin cabinet just like we use for interior wainscotting.
This has been my go to with this exact scenario. Cabinets give lots of control for Wainscot.

We have no reports of any problems like this.
If you can reproduce this problem, then please report this to our technical support team. You will need to include your layout and all of your referenced plan files along with the steps needed to reproduce this problem (such as what you did right before you used undo).
There is one issue that is known and that is an issue when using dropbox and some other cloud services and working on the plan without downloading them to your computer. It was an issue that dropbox had at some point but still comes up occasionally.

so it will still show up correctly in my Materials List
Make it with a 3d solid make it a symbol and designate it correctly in the components section of the symbol dbx as a shelf. Just like in the field we have to make custom items.

There are several in the 3D warehouse I use. Also, remember you can copy them and vary them my resizing and shaping the same rock and using different textures to make the rocks look more realistic.
Try a distribution path as well.

Hello All. Hope everyone is well! I'm sure this subject has been addressed and I apologize in advance if it has. I did a search and did not come across it. But is there a way to have the brick soldier course follow the arch around the opening? I've attached a pic of concerned area. Thanks for your help
Look at the different material options for brick and read up on lintels.

Does anyone have anything they can share for rocks going around the edge of a pond. I have to ponds to line the edges and don't want to draw them all by polylines.
Did you check for Rocks in the Core Library?

The majority of the doors in the library are not parametrically setup to make these adjustments but the door tool with chief is. Just a heads up for what you just learned for the future. Looks great btw!
