Walkthrough paths give you more control, specifically speed.

Walk thru paths inside the home gets difficult. I assume the guys who do it do not record one video but combine many into one (ie. editing) That is something I haven't ever got into.

Frames per second controls the speed.

If the 15 is reduced to 7, it's much better, but still on the fast side.

Thanks for posting, I'd like to learn more about this as well.

Awesome thanks, the whole compression thing I have always guessed at. On the exterior walk around I do a walkway path and it records great and very professional looking. When it comes to manually recording I need improvements haha.

  3. What do you guys who manually record videos have your settings at? I can record slowly while doing a bird's eye view over the home with the roof removed but at playback it has a very high speed rate. Tired of telling my client to pause the video and slide the play bar to slow it down. This is happening since I started X15 earlier this month. Obviously I am doing something wrong. Thanks.....

  4. By the sq foot, two free revisions on the prelims and then final payment after the plans are completed with electrical and structure. Any feedback from family members, interior designers or builders after the client signs off for approval on the finals goes to my $125 per hour rate. You gotta stay in control or things could pan out a year before you finish with them. Been there done that and learned many lessons.

  5. To do a radiused shower like shown below but do away with the shower curb and have it zero entry where the slab drops like an 1". We have the curved wall tool but not a curved room divider.

You can send them a DWG/DXF cad file of the floor plan that they can import into Chief if they don't have autocad.  Or you could just send them a pdf or jpg that they could open in Chief or whatever they want.

There is no way that I know of to send them a Chief plan file and not give them the whole 3D model.

Ahh, you are very correct, I forgot about importing drawing. Thanks!

  7. Hey guys, I have a builder who uses CA as a novice and does not have AutoCad to open the floor plan I exported and sent to them. They are requesting the floor plan only and not the whole 3D model of the home, which I am ok with because they want to play around with it and see if it is possible to cut down on some of the sq footage to meet my client's budget. Is there a way to even do that other than sending the plan file? Everything in CA is 3D so I do not see how this is possible.

Unfortunately I see this all the Time in the real world, so good you caught it now :)

Me too, even at my own house. They run a P.T. 6x6 flush from the front of the porch beam down to the slab. That is fine if you do not have a base at the bottom. I am on a mono slab though.

It looks like they rectified the overhang with brick rowlock. (below)

  9. Hey guys, just looking for opinions on what you do when you encounter this. When column bases overhang the stem wall that is aligned with the porch beam above do you slide it outward to catch the base? This will mess with the overall foundation dimensions and won't match the floor plan dimensions. Does this cause confusion on site? Sample below...

    Paper space mentality!

I remember almost 30 years ago now paper space in Autocad as an assignment in college. I could not for the life of me grasp it haha.

  11. Hey guys, X15 OOB library makes me filter thru what I type in. Is there a setting to have it like X13 and below. For instance when I type in "dishwasher" on my electrical layout the receptacle symbol used to pop right up and I didn't have to filter down the ladder to find it. This goes for everything I search.

    what opens

what I have to manually filter to

  12. Hey guys, I am getting used to X15 after upgrading from X13. I am having a hard time getting these to subtract from my manual front porch truss pline solid. In X13 you could make it "hold in solid". X15 i am trying the " 3d solid hole" and cannot get it to work after a half hour of trying. How do you guys do it?

Probably because of a point load over an opening, but it's not difficult to engineer. People just think it looks "wrong."

Proceed with fulfilling your client's request. :)

Yep they are they are the boss and pay the invoice and I work with plenty of engineers I can call at any given second for their opinion. If they frown on it I tell the owner and we rectify it.
