There is a box to check for flush eaves, I believe it's in the structure tab.

Yeah I tired that and no luck. I am going to hit this at a different route and rebuild the roof from scratch and see where I went wrong.

  2. Hey guys, I am doing a roof with flared eaves. How come my soffit is angled if I left the boxed eaves checked? I need it flat. Looks like the wall accounts for the flat soffit since it has a gap and all. Thanks....

  3. I like the idea's here. I can do one site plan but do a CAD detail of the garage plans to copy and paste on the main home file. Thanks guys. What sucks is the garages will match the home and give that grand look for the renderings if they were all in one file.

  4. How many of you include detached structures in one plan file. An example would be this Floridian Style home I am working. The home itself is custom and quite challenging but as you pull up the driveway there will be one 27X27 garage to the left and one 27x27 garage to the right. In the past I found that multiple foundations and roofs can sometimes go nuts if, say, the garages have mono slabs and the main home is stem walled and you auto-build them. This is the first 3 separate structure project I have worked.

@winterdd, does "clean it up" mean finish it for them including con docs?  Is this a one-off custom or is it to be a stock build for them.  Are you in it for con docs also?

it is everything you just mentioned.

The user must not understand how to use SPVs, and works from a template in which there are none.

    Ask them.

It appears they had AutoCad in mind when doing the design and set up extra layers to turn on and off between the groups. I get it, but boy is it easier with CA setup.

  7. Guys, I was emailed a plan file from a local builder needing me to clean up their model and do renderings for them. My question is why would this be missing (circled below). Would someone have had to delete them. I believe this came from X15 because when I saved it no warning came up about a previous version. Just trying to see how to revise this and switch between the framing and electrical and such. The home is fully modeled.

  8. Guys, I am really having a hard time with my interior wall elevations with X15. I had my settings in previous versions that all I did was click auto dimension (NKBA). I rolled my legacy NKBA dimension settings into X15 but it is not perfect. How do we get the extension lines to actually extend closer to the opening/objects without manually pulling the grips? And why on earth is it dimension to the center height of the freezer? This is really slowing me down big time.

Although, now the owner will probably ask you to change the roof pitch to 8/12...and you're back to changing the P-solids. :)

    Story of my life ha!

Why not just hide the gaps with solids?  IMHO, it would look better than the returns.

Not vaulted and considering making pline solids.

The problem is the post to beam railing wall. The frieze does not like to extend along the beam. Also...it's not a "real" beam...it's just a hollow rectangle with a material applied....I wish Chief would improve this feature.

Can you raise the roof just a bit...I created a quick test plan with an 8/12 pitch. I had to raise it about 4" to get a 5.5" frieze to work properly. You can also do a back clipped section close to the surface of the gable wall, open the roof trim layer and unlock it...then you can edit the roof trim frieze.

Owner wants it at 6:12. But thanks! Here is what I ended up doing to hide the gaps. It was either this to match the roof returns on the front of the home OR pline solids for these particular frieze boards. The easiest and most novice level homes can be a PITA sometimes.

  12. Hey guys, I asked this a while back but need a reminder, how can we prevent the shortage on frieze boards in these situations? It is just a simple porch roof resting on ceiling beams (LVL's) and columns with the frieze turned on "gable only". Just looks unprofessional when I send it off to clients. Not a big deal other than that.
