Good one Eric! I was just now building one for my library for future. Good to have on hand because this is getting more popular in the residential industry. At least for me it is.

Looks good, but how do you use pony walls?

There are plenty of video's on how to configure pony walls in your video help section. Its really easy to setup and you can save it to the library. Also check out the video on material region.

You could use the wall niche tool to create the recessed region in the drywall and then a regular base molding with the offset set to recess the base to be flush with the drywall face.

    What he said

Here is where you do the offset

Jeldwen is another Brand which I use , and has multiple different Lines depending on the Clients' Budget, and a line for Coastal Use called the Atlantic Series.

They also have a line available through the BigBox Stores ( HD, Lowes etc) which isn't on their Website...the 3500 Series.....bit nicer than the Builders 2500 Series and not as expensive as the 4500 / Premium Series.

They have Revit symbols only currently...... pity CA doesn't Import them (yet?)

Their site for Designers and Builders is Here :

Good point Jeldwin does have a nice selection. I thought we had jeldwin in our library at one point?

  5. Need California Window Library Catalogs

Sure would be nice if we could get the "Milgard" window manufacturer in our library or at least some other windows that sell here is California. I'm not a big Pella fan.

"Migard" would be great to have the full catalog

Maybe look into "MI" windows also as a lower end, low cost window

I don't know of any instructions, but here are the basics.

Make a symbol, and set the Inserts Into Wall option. The symbol can be anything and to practice, the overall size is not important. Make the depth the thickness of the wall or more, and make the Insert Depth at least the wall thickness.

Place the symbol in the wall and take an elevation view. Move it as required, then click Edit Wall Cutout Polyline in the Edit Toolbar. This will allow reshaping of the hole, independent of the shape or the symbol.

You just need to experiment to see how it works.

For the heart shape, I used 2 symbols and made the holes overlap to get the 2 humps at the top, as I could not break the top of the box.

Thank you! I will try it.

The hole in the wall is doable. Just need the window to fill it.

So can you tell me how to make the hole?

I looked and couldn't find any instruction on that. More importantly if you can tell where to find the instructions I can read it myself.

  8. I'll elaborate;

If you draw the cad line on the elevation view to your shape you can select your convert poly line tool and convert it to a material region and then set your depth and material and it will locate on the wall right where you need it. Very handy tool!

  9. I use the perspective floor over view a lot to check my work. You can usually see easily where problems may be.

Here is an example where it shows your walls heights not lining up (sometimes that may be intentional) and you can also see where the roof eave cuts into a wall. This is very usefull to me to check my work. You should make sure all the room heights and settings are right before you start to build your room. Same with foundation, check before you build it.

I drew a simple flat roof patio that I wanted to save to my user library. When I draw a marquee around the patio I do not get the make block command button.

In the past I've made decorative posts on a base and been able to make it into a block and save to the library.

On this project l used the roof planes to create the roof, the slab tool to draw the patio slab, the post and footing and beam under the framing menu for the framing.

Does anyone know how I can make a block out of this patio and save it to my library ?

    Thanks,

    Mike

There are "cad blocks" and "architectural blocks", Roofs and walls don't fall under either of them. Also when you want to group a cad item with an architectural item the block wont work either. Its one or the other.

Mr. Chop is right. For what your doing you would have to save as a plan file. Not sure of any other ways to do it.

  11. Thank you! I had never used the short cut tool before. I would open and make the selection in the dialog box but it is no longer there. I think I get mixed up at version changes because there will be times I don't use the program for several months. Thanks for the quick answer!

  12. I think I might be loosing my mind!

I thought that we had a "Bring To Front" selection when we are drawing cad lines? When I draw a line over a cad box it doesn't show the line over the box. It starts and stops each side of it. I thought we can bring the line to the front but I don't see that selection anymore?

    Help Please!

  13. I just remembered Up until about a year ago I would use a big screen TV to run 3D for my customers to see and I never had the issue at that time. Also I just noticed that I can drag the 3D from my laptop screen to the external monitor and it works that way. It appears to only act up when I try to open 3D on the external monitor.

  14. Just downloaded X7 and Im having the same problem again. I think I will download the older version on to my older computer because it has been cleaned and formatted and see if I still have the issue. The older versions downloaded really fast on this computer so I dont know that x10 isn't somehow affecting this computer still.
