I use the Object Information fields to add this kind of information, generally under the Comment section:

Yes, that is what I'm doing. Just thought I would see if anyone new something I didn't. Thank you for confirming.

This is the information I like to see

  2. Is there an option for obscure glass anywhere for the window schedule? Or do I have to add it to comments? What do you guys suggest because most every bathroom window I put in have obscure and tempered glass. I'm surprised CA doesn't have a check box in the same place you check for tempered and egress.

    Help would be much appreciated

Ok, just a little update; I went ahead and installed windows 10 on my windows 7 computer. I am pleased to report it works with no issues thus far and my copy of Chief Architect X6... no issues!

Side note, I was able to get Windows 10 for free so that helps.  builtright3 I thought you would appreciate that!

    Awesome!

If you have a chance for a free upgrade go ahead...Otherwise if Happy with Win7 , what is the rush?  besides you never know what Santa may bring you ....and if not you can always do Win10 Over the holidays :)

Not that Win10 is bad nowadays , but I also think you now need to pay for it , so why not get it with a New Computer at some point....

    M.

Yea, arent they getting ready to put out a new windows again soon?

Thank you both, builtright3 and David Porter for your replies!

I have not made up my here completely but am leaning towards the update from Window 7 to Windows 10...I'll have to do it eventually anyway as Microsoft is slated to stop supporting windows 7 January 2020.

    Thanks again,

    Todd

Windows 10 has been out for a while so I'm sure its pretty solid now and David confirmed it works good for him.

Do you think it's worth changing to NVME on my Mac Pro.  My test results on my internal SSD are 1446 MB/s Read, 887 MB/s write

I'm very, vary, vary happy with my upgrade to the NVME but I'm on a PC so I dont know if that helps you. I dont know anything about MAC and to be honest I dont know much about PC but I do know that the NVME is the hot ticket for me! I love it!

  7. I know several people that don't want to give up windows 7. Some claim that it is still the best windows version.

I'm not proud of this statement but I always upgrade because I always think I have to have the latest technology whether it's good or bad. Most people leave things alone when their system is working good and I make trouble for myself, but what the heck! Somebody has to be the Ginny pig!

My advise would be, if everything is working good I would leave it alone unless you are prepared for the can of worms you could open up from going to windows 10. It could snow ball on you to upgrade other software and hardware. JUST A THOUGHT!-_- FOR WHATS IS WORTH

I have never had an issue with CA but I don't know how it will react to other software you have and your computer. Most of the time I think it is fine. You have to weigh out the risk for yourself.

Well certainly don't continue here-you do have a previous thread about the problem though-might just use that

and since the OP was told to search and someone even suggested making a laptop sticky-maybe someone with time on their hands can post some links to appropriate threads as an edit to a post on the first page?

I agree with your thoughts but things are hard to control. Its always easier said than done.

I search all the time for stuff and its a lot of information to navigate through and so that in itself can be very time consuming. Easier to ask the question and get direction one way or the other. I don't have a good answer for this but I do know that this forum works very well like it is and it gets better.

As for me, I will comply with an rules the best I can and help as much as I can.

Thank you Mark, I really appreciate you!

Shame on every one of us, including me, who posted to this thread-except for the first 3 or 4 posts. Those advised the newbie to search the forum. Another thread in Tips has the same suggestion. Now and for a while a search of the forum for laptops will bring this thread to the top of the list-4 pages of hijack while Builtrights original thread on his problem collects dust where I doubt all suggested diagnostic steps were followed AND I seriously doubt that a drive will solve a display issue. Then we tell newbies to read "how to get good answers"
    We should all know better.

I'm doing a video to better explains my problem with my external monitors. Should I start a new thread for that? I'm also going to send it to Chief.

Watch this video to the end.  You may need to adjust your Bios for the Motherboard.

    Great video! Thank you!

I will confirm what I learned from him.

Certainly an upgrade over what it came with ...... ( both times :) )

A Tip , I am trying from Rene....

If you have 32gb RAM try AMD's Free Ram Disk set to the max 4GB, I use M:\ for the RAMdrive as R was already used, and on the RamDrive make a Folder called Temp and one called Undo ,  and then point CA to the RamDrive in Preferences to each Folder.

    M.

Yes, I was planning on going back and studying Rene's post about this subject and see if I can figure it out. I dont have have a full understanding and I dont want to get into something like this if I dont know why I'm doing it. I need a dumbed down explanation. You know like one of those books for idiots! Thankts Me!

That is good news Joe......  he is going to use a Quality 1TB NVME right? .....like the Samsung 970? , did you make it Clear you know how to check what;s installed now :)

You tend to notice the Speed at 1st but after  a week or too it becomes "normal" and you want even more :)

did you ask him to look into the Video Output Issue too?

Yes he is putting in the right stuff this time. Thank you!

They are also going to look into the Video output issue but I'm not so sure they will solve that one because I had the same problem with two other computers. It could be a Chief thing or the monitors. I'm going to try other monitors and ask some more questions and call support again when I have a little more time to mess with it.

    ahh Okay, I see it...

so in conclusion, pretty sure he has the 860 evo SATA 2.5" as a primary with a WD500 NVMe as a data drive not being used, and then the firecuda got ditched as he probably only has 1 SATA 2.5" space available

    This statement above is correct!

I dropped off the computer and he is putting in a 1TB SSD NVMe m.2 (i think i said that right) as the primary drive and he will clone it for me. And then I will use the other 1 TB as my backup or extra data.

He doesn't think it will make much difference but then again he dont know anything about the software we are using. I just want to make sure I can get the best out of the equipment that I purchased and that it is being used the way it was designed to run.

Thank you ALL very much for this thread. This should be a good testimony to "EGerace" (the starter of this thread) of the generous help you can get from this forum!

Please send me a PM with a more detailed description of what you want.

I would like your help also if your willing but I need to understand more about what I'm asking for. Unless you have a system your already doing I can purchase from you and then make any adjustments I need.

Basically, most of my work are Room Additions so I only need it to calculate the add on area and not the whole house. They don't typically ask me to include the roof that over lays the existing in the square footage for the attic, I usually only calculate the floor square footage.

Let me know what you think

    Thank you Joe!

  15. I understand ventilation and what is required for my area. I also no that square footage is not the only factor. There are spacing requirements and other factors to take into consideration. Also for sure high fire area's which I am not in. I get it.

My original question inst about that. But again I really appreciate the input.

  16. 10 minutes ago, Richard_Morrison said:

    Joe,

This is a very nice format! However, you should be aware that you need to deal with Net Free Areas (NFA) of ventilation, not actual sizes of the units. It is seldom (never) that a 14" x 22" gable vent, say, will provide 2.13 SF of ventilation. The NFA is usually listed in the manufacturer's specs.

I know its not perfect but the cities have always approved it for the past 28 years I have been drawing plans so it works until I want to get more technical. A city plan checker guided me on this several years ago on what is excepted.

I found some basic pipe fittings @ 3D Warehouse and was

able to import them into Chief but I wasn't smart enough to

get the origin offsets to line up properly so aligning the

fittings onto the pipes was a total crap shoot. The results

    turned out pretty well though.

    Well Pipes.png

    Well Pipes-1.png

I have never used 3D Warehouse. Is it a free sign up or do they charge when you set up an account? Can you give me the simple down-low? Not sure what I'm looking at whan I go to the site.

Spread sheets can be imported/pasted but lose their functionality...

Last time I checked was a few version ago so you are confirming what you know is that they haven't done anything with that yet.

    Thank You

  19. 9 minutes ago, HumbleChief said:

That's pretty cool me thinks Joe. I simply show the results in a text box but a spreadsheet is a good idea. Not sure how to avoid the cut and paste which I guess is the only down side?

Yes, trying to avoid PDF and picture and such that increase the file size.

It would be nice if CA had a simple spread sheet based system or we could import/export spread sheets. Not sure if we can do that now? Macro's are confusing to me so I don't mess with them to much but I understand Excel very well. The truth is I'm a little lazy to learn more about macro's.

  20. I currently use a spread sheet to do my ventilation for crawl space and attic space. I put the square footage in and I cut and paste the chart into the plan.

This works good for me but If anyone has a better way of doing this that would be more automatic and I don't have to use the spread sheet and cut and paste I would love to hear Idea's. I would even be willing to pay for a macro setup or something if someone already is using a system that I would like.

If my spread sheet is better, then someone can pay me! LOL! I have at least an exhausting 15 minutes into building this beauty! LOL
