  1. Thank you. I am just learning about moldings today... I see how it works now. Still seems odd that I can draw something and see it right there and block it and add it to the library and not have it come out the same way on the other end, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. Anyway, thanks for your patience.
  2. Thank you. I don't see how to do that and, as usual, a search through the help files turns up nothing.
  3. OK this time I did it with a molding profile. I made it into an architectural bloc added to library and when I insert it, again, it work on the main level of my project but in the basement and 2nd floor, only the countertop and sinks show up. I don't see a setting for the height of the molding profile from finished floor. Untitled 2.plan
  4. OK thanks, I thought I was using all poly line solids but that makes sense, I must have made the base out of a countertop for some reason. Thanks,
  5. It's weird, it works on the main level of the plan I have going but if I try to insert it in the basement or second floor it just appears as the sinks and faucets floating in air. The plan I am working on is too big of a file to attach. Thanks
  6. I am having trouble with this block. I converted it to an architectural block then saved it to my library and then tried to insert it into a plan. the sinks show up in the plan but the cabinet is not there. All the right layers are on. I tried everything, (well obviously not EVERYTHING), I know it is something simple but can't figure out what I am missing. Untitled 2.plan
  7. I have tried the log truss from the library. I remember I couldn't do much with it so I never went back but maybe I should revisit that. I figured out how to cut my log to length just by drawing and extruding some polyline solids to subtract from the log. What puzzles my more than anything is why sometimes I can move to an elevation and click on and rotate objects and sometimes I can't. After an hour of banging my head against the wall it works and I can't figure out what I did differently. Also, it would be nice if you could have an option to draw round roof and floor beams. anyway... off we go. Thanks,
  8. Trying to figure out how to manipulate this upper cord on this log truss so that it meets the king post and bottom cord. Or how to do it right if it can't be manipulated. Seems like I have done this with log rafters in the past but I can't figure out how... Log truss.plan
  9. Converting the top to a symbol doesn't seem to be an option but changing the lines to white works... seems like there should be a better way but maybe that's how it is done. Works for now. Thanks,
  10. One more question, on the attached drawing, how do I get it so on the plan view it just shows the lines that are showing? I don't want to see the legs through the top on the floor plan. I exploded it and brought the sinks to the front and that worked OK but I can't get the top to come to the front or the legs to go to the back... Thanks again for all the help with this. 11. I managed to draw a rough outline of the piece of furniture I need to place. This will get me close enough for the design. What is the trick to getting this to be an architectural block that I can put in the library? Vanities.plan
  12. Well I managed to draw what I need, at least in a crude fashion. Now it doesn't let me create a block with it to add to library... What am I missing there? And why are some symbols or blocks, when I pull them out of the library, explodable and some are not?
  13. Thanks! At least I can stop banging my head against that wall.
  14. Yes, I picked an object with extreme detail. But somebody somewhere is drawing the furniture that we are dragging out of our libraries... are they all using some other software?
  15. Is there a video out there that shows how to draw more elaborately detailed items like furniture etc? I find instructions on poly lines and moldings but what if I wanted to start from scratch and draw a bed or a special table. What if I want to design a piece of furniture? I am used to using Turbocad and so far i think I might need to go back to that in order to draw these types of things but I can't help but think I am missing something here. I even tried to explode a table from the library so I can try and modify it but the explode symbol is not an option when I pull blocks out of the library. Is there a video or tutorial on this sort of thing? What if I wanted to try and draw the picture attached? I don't need to be anywhere near that detailed but what if I did want that? Could I do it in Chief or would I need to move to another program entirely for that?
  16. Very good Sir. Thank you!
  17. Here is an interesting issue, (at least for me)... I drew this stairway and created the stair well but when I go to a camera view, the wall comes in at the floor level. The basement is 11" thick ICF and the main level is 2x6 so in real life there is a lip on top of the ICF wall going back to the thickness of the 2x6 wall. I can't figure out why when I draw it like this the lip actually comes in at the framing level of the main floor. When I look at a cross section it actually looks like a section of the ICF wall is slid into the stairwell at that level. The floor trusses are 22". I have attached a picture of the project, I am already well underway with this, I am just trying to make some as built drawings so I can work on interior design stuff. I can probably make due with it as it is but I am just wondering if anyone wants to try and figure out what I am ,missing here. Thanks, Stairwell issue.plan
  18. Thanks. I guess I should have just noticed the handles on the camera when I select it. Very good, I understand now how it works. I still can't figure out how to work in a backclipped or elevation view. My cross section lines layer is on but there are very few points that are snapable, mostly just on the polyline solid that I drew in that view. Anyway, we forge ahead.
  19. I am having a hard time finding out what "backclipped" actually means. I can see what it does but it seems like where I choose to backclip from on the plan has a lot to do with how things will show up. I assume there is s distance from camera distance that would define what shows? And also what would be the optimal distance from certain objects so that they are snappable if I am looking to draw on the backclipped or elevation image? Thanks
  20. Thanks for the help everyone. I am starting to understand.
  21. Thanks for the responses. I have quite a bit of work done on the default cad layer but I did it when I was on 0 floor, (basement), level. I am trying to figure a way to get all that work to show up on the 1, (main floor), level. I found instructions on how to copy from one layer to another but is there a way to copy from on level to another? Thanks again.
  22. I drew some cad lines while I was looking at the basement floor level, working plan view. These are lines associated with the terrain and I would like to see them when I switch to the first floor. I click the up arrow to go up one floor and now I see the first floor plan but my cad lines are gone. They are on the cad default layer which is still checked as visible but they are only visible to me when I am on the basement floor. Same with terrain, if I draw the terrain while I am on the basement floor plan I can't see the terrain lines when I switch to first floor even though the terrain layer is still checked as visible. ??
  23. Wow, thanks! I figured it would be simple but I could not figure it out.
