  1. I am having a hard time figuring out why the eve is boxed all the way out to the gable eve fascia on one side and on the other it is flush with the gable wall siding, (which is what I want). I took the one that I wanted and mirror copied it over to the other side so the settings are all the same. I am thinking it has something to do with the walls? as built working at home start 9-16-23.plan
  2. OK I finally got it by making a symbol that looks half backwards and then somehow when I inserted it into my plan it worked out. When I started, I built the door the normal way and then created a material stretch to fit and applied it to a slab that was the same size as my door and just had it stick out slightly past the door on the one side so that you only see the wood door on the outside and my drawing on the inside. I had two reversed versions of the drawing and was trying it both ways on reversed slabs etc. Every different option. The plan here called "the ones I was trying" are only the last three versions, I had a lot more different ways I was reflecting things and getting them to line up. The ones I had looking right on the symbol were backwards or had some other issue when I inserted them into the plan so I decided to try saving the symbol as a version that isn't "right" and then that one worked. That is the plan marked "the one that worked", you can see it, (assuming you are interested). Anyway, I just wanted to say I made it happen and I appreciate all the comments. I build custom doors occasionally for homes that I design and build and that is what this is for, I just wanted to be able to insert it in the plan the way I wanted it to look. I am familiar with terms like "pre-hang" and Left and right "handing", (I have been building doors for over 30 years). It was just getting it to work in CA on this particular one that was beating me up a little bit. Thanks again everyone. sample.plan The ones I was trying.plan This is the one that works.plan
  3. I appreciate all the help again. I know there is a way to get it right but every time I try reversing the door and or the drawing or whatever I get the tall window on the other side which is not what I want. Anyway, it's not big deal, I can just switch it to a fixed door for the rendering and then there won't be a knob and that will be fine. Something like this can sure kill a lot of time. I am over it now. I will move on. Thanks again for the help, we can put this to rest.
  4. You would think so. I tried it and it didn't work. I think I will start over and build the door the other way and see how it turn out. Like I said, I was just hoping for a simpler solution. I will keep working on it. Thanks
  5. But I don't want the door reflected. I want it exactly how it is with the window to the one side and my sketch on the inside. I just thought the would be an easy way to change the door swing but leave the rest of the door exactly how it is. Thanks, I will keep playing with it.
  6. I have a custom door I created. I used a hand sketched drawing for the materials on one side. Is there a way to change the door swing from RH to LH without the panel configuration of the door changing? I have a simple plan file here and the door file that I used for the symbol. Thanks Just slab with tree.plan sample.plan
  7. Thanks guys, Apparently in all my trying different things, somehow that whole room became a stairwell. I guess that is what confused CA. I just cleared that whole space and started over.
  8. For some reason I can't get this stairs to meet the top floor. When I hit "make best fit" it over extends the height. Addition #3 x15.plan
  9. Thanks for all your help Eric and for taking the time to put together these little videos. This has been very helpful. I will spend more time on your youtube channel for sure.
  10. Thanks Michael, this is very helpful just knowing some of these things can be done. I spent a great deal of time yesterday drawing this tub. It is not perfect but it will do. I appreciate the help I got here from everyone. If I were smart I would probably pay someone like you to teach me some of these things. Maybe someday. It's hard to learn so many things at once and the contracting/building part of my life is extremity busy right now. Thanks again. I have a feeling I will revisit this thread in the future.
  11. If I might ask: how do you work with a 3d shape that you find online? How do you "delete surfaces" like you are saying? I can't figure out a way to manipulate 3d models other than size, position etc.
  12. I guess I already backed it out and got rid of it. Sorry. I will keep that in mind in the future. Thanks for your help with this. Question: I know you have worked with sketchup too, do you still use that occasionally or are you finding you can do the same sorts of things well enough int Chief? Thanks again
  13. I just drew it like I draw all shapes, using CAD lines in an elevation view and then, when it was a closed shape I converted it to a solid. I think, like was mentioned above, I need to look things over more carefully and make sure they are clean of tiny little overlaps or something. My next step in drawing the bathtub will probably stop me anyway, I will try and fillet the weird curved corners to round out the tub and that will probably not work. I think generally I am trying to do things that are not what CA is meant to do, I should really be looking at sketchup or blender or something for this type of stuff. But when I can't find a symbol on line I tend to want to draw something that approximates what I need, in this case, the claw foot bathtub. I keep thinking the time invested will be worth it because I will learn things but usually I just end up feeling like I have been beating my head against the wall. Anyway, I will carry on. I appreciate all the help I get in this forum.
  14. thanks, I don't understand either. I created my red chunk the same way you did, I drew the shape and converted it to a solid. Seems like this happens all the time and the answer is always to re-create one of the pieces. Anyway, thanks for the time again.
  15. Here is another one. I tried the copy and paste in place but that doesn't seem to do it. I would like to subtract the red item from the blue block. I get the same error message. Tub.plan
  16. I am still having more of this same problem. I am trying to subtract the two red objects from the gray object and I get the error: BooleanBehavior.cpp(424): Warning #272032185 "The Boolean operation could not be completed." 12/18/2022 05:39:35 PM Build: 24.3.0.84 Windows 64-bit I used to have to convert them to solids but now that is not an option. 17. Thank you Steve, this is all very helpful
  18. Thanks, yes I was p[laying with shadow boards etc myself. It's all about a way to cover that edge I guess. But I am really more interested in how you got rid of those little corners of the walls that were sticking through the roof.
  19. Thanks for this, Steve. I appreciate the time you put into it. It does give me a few tips on constructing roof though having auto rebuild roofs on always causes frustration but likely there is something more I need to learn there. Anyway, what I was really trying to do was to get away from having a roof fascia altogether. Weird, I know, but I am trying to do an as built drawing and that is how it is. So just a minimal metal trim or drip edge and then going right into the siding. But I can get there with solids or something. What I would really like to do is figure out why I occasionally have these little corners of walls sticking through roofs. This is a constant aggravation for me, happens all the time. Seems like roofs always cut walls except when they don't.
  20. Still having some problems with these walls. I really just want to have the roof surface meet the exterior wall surface with minimal drip edge or trim. I can't get rid of the gap there and now there is a little tab of the wall that sticks up in the corners through the roof. Any help with this would be appreciated. more problems.plan
  21. This is great stuff, thank you for the detailed instructions!
  22. I can't figure out why my walls are not meeting the roof. I run into this a lot and usually finagle walls by puling on their handles etc but changing from gable wall to hip wall etc seems to make no difference in how the wall acts. I just want them to act like when I first drew them where they just automatically connect with the roof. plan.plan
  23. I see now. It just didn't like that I drew a room in the middle of that interior space, (?). So you connect it somewhere else and then it lets you delete the other wall. Guess I have just never come across that situation before. Thanks,
