Jim, I just recently exported a plan, and it worked fine for me. Make sure you don't have a high poly model anywhere...that might be your problem.

Thanks Alan and Dennis. Alan, I'm not positive on the FOV angle. This was done in Thea, and my resolution was set to 2000x1000. I've found that's a nicer look all around.

My latest...

I have a homeowner that wants 6" casing on the outside and 4" casing in between the windows. There are 3 windows in a row, with three transoms above totaling 6 windows in all. They're all separated with 3" of framing in between... So my exterior casing shows correctly with 6" around the windows, but only the vertical casing in between the windows show as 4". The horizontal is showing 6"... So I think to myself...ok...if I mull the windows, then it should fix the horizontal problem, and the vertical casing will still work... Well, when I mull the windows the horizontal gets fixed, but then the vertical turns into 6". Is there a setting or something I'm missing on how to get this to display correctly?...I just want 6" trim around with 4" between. It's not that complicated. The windows are all on the same floor...the casing is all specified the same...not really sure what the deal is.

I think a lot of custom shops use Cabinet Vision. Not sure well it integrates with Chief...

Maybe instead of an Octagon, you can do a 13 sided room. That would give you 13 stars on the floor...and would add another level of patriotism. Good idea though, looks great.

I didn't take the time to setup materials in the Chief one. I mostly was trying to see how it handled lighting. If I was impressed, then I would have continued. I wasn't...so I stopped. It's ok, though. I'll still use Chief for modeling

Yes I've tried...and I don't think you can (that's just my thought). There's so much light leakage, and other issues that I just gave up.

Reviving a long dead thread Here's the latest I'm working on...nothing fancy. I still have lots of work to do, but I think it's looking alright so far. Modeled in Chief X6 and rendered in Thea.

Beware The Latest Nvidia Driver Update 5/19 9.18.13.3788

Bryce, I had the same problem...see attached link: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1111-x6-watercolor-elevations/ -
No problem...still should probably be fixed though.

I think Perry was trying to say that you also have to edit the pattern to match the texture... They're controlled separately...
-
Weird...I tried it and when I was typing in the box, it shows like yours. When I clicked ok, then it changed to how it SHOULD look.
-
I just installed the previous driver (335.23) and it appears to be back to normal... Not to mention it runs a little faster and smoother too...weeeeird.

Hey, I'll be happy to run some benchmarks sometime...

I've tried exporting to the .stl file format, and the guy that will do 3D printing for me said there were a lot of errors. Didn't look into it much past that...

I just got an AMD FX-8350 4.33GHz 8-Core Processor....I love it. Of course...I like AMD better than Intel. They do seem a little less expensive, and a little more stable. Slap on a Corsair water cooler, and you'll be good to go.
-
Nope...no dice. Still just as dark... It's strange, because it seems like they were working fine with this new system, and now they show up like this. I'm thinking it's probably the driver version?... What version are you running?
-
Perry, Here's what mine are at...I would assume this is the default??... I will change them to what you have and see if it helps at all.
-
Here's the weird thing...even when I just click on the watercolor render mode, it changes the darkness of the whole thing. Here's a comparison between a standard view w/shadows, and also just a standard watercolor w/o shadows. I didn't touch the settings on either. How do I check my ambient light settings?...can you specify per rendering technique?

And I guess all painted elevations for that matter... Anyways, did something change in Chief that I don't know about?...seems like I used to be able to get great looking watercolor elevations. Now they appear to be too dark. All the other types of views look great, it's just the painted ones (and watercolor in particular) that appear too dark. Is anyone else coming up against this, or just me?...I'm guessing it's probably a video driver issue or something like that?...I have the latest GeForce Driver 337.88.

Yeah, I did. It looks like it turned out ok, but he said there's another step they have to take to get from the .stl format to the 3D printer. In this other step, he said it misses a lot of the 3D objects. I guess I'm really unfamiliar with the whole process and didn't know if anyone else has tried it...successfully.
-
Has anyone tried exporting to .stl yet?... Just wondering if there are any tips or tricks to get this to work correctly. I was going to have our local High School Drafting Department do a 3D print for us, and I exported to .stl and had him import the file. He said when he went to "pack it up" for the printer, it was missing some of the objects?...or something like that?? It was a pretty basic 3D model (I've attached the plan), so I guess I'm not really sure what the proper procedure is. FINAL PLAN.plan

I'm also having this same issue... It shows color in the preview, but the actual PDF is in greyscale.

Rendering stainless steel has ALWAYS been a problem. Even with 3rd party rendering software it's a problem... There are solutions you can do post pro, or just change the texture of the object to look "stainless"... As soon as you find a good fix, let us all know
