  1. They do. It is from the designing architect. I found 32 gray boxes on the second floor that where all the floating dormers I tried to place. I erased all of them and placed a dormer on the next floor up and it worked better.
  2. I am trying to place a decorative dormer on a roof that has no connection to the floor below, but a warning box says there is no room to place it because it is too close to another dormer. It is not. There is plenty of room and I can even place the dormer in a spot where there is less room. Is there a fix or trick for this or is there and easy way to build them manually? Battjes02.plan
  3. Still waiting for a cabinet lift-door. Maybe someday. . . . YES!
  4. I ended up using polyline solids. It was not that much to create in the end.
  5. I was looking for a material, but I do not see something. What works?
  6. What level of contrast brightness tends to work for no interior lights? Same for a level of ambient light?
  7. Got it! Average the angles of the beginning and ending slopes and make that the angle of the roof to curve. For example, 12/12 = 45 and a 3/12 = 14 degrees. The average is 29.5 degrees. Then set the ridge to match the fixed eave height and then select the curved roof box and change either the ridge or the eave angle to what you want.
  8. I have a large 12/12 roof set in place that will not need to move and an smaller add-on roof that is to curve off the end of the 12/12 roof eave to a 3/12 at its eave. The little roof eave height will be determined by the connection to larger 12/12 roof. I have seen a video on creating curved roofs, which builds the curved roof first, but I keep having a problem when I change the little roof from straight to curved as of the 3 values of a curve, When I change one the other change too. What I want is 14.036 degrees at the eave and 45 degrees at the ridge and what ever radius to make it work. But it does not do what I want. It does what it wants. What is the approach or steps I need to take to make this work with my existing lager roof?
  9. Those cabinets are to be a wire mesh, but I have not had the time to come up with a suitable texture that matches the client's choice. And then learn how to make it in Chief, I have been told how but I could not find a key DBX to create new material. But mostly it is the time right now as images like this are not a priority for the project.
  10. Jon, I have been looking for the "define material", but I am missing that simple thing. Where is that?
  11. My best image so far after working in Chief for 5 months. Could use some improvements on the Stainless steel and ambient lighting.
  12. Also, is there a book or an extensive manual on Ray-tracing and setting up lights and materials for Chief? There a so many variables that take time to play with to get an image to work how you want. The subject really could use its own book.
  13. rather than the gray that the material has in its definition. I do not always do RT which solves this, but the client wondered why all the hardware was oil rubbed bronze. They are brushed nickle but show as black. What setting might I use that will work for both Standard view and RT's?
  14. It would be nice to place a filter over a texture that could effect the way light is refracted/reflected such as in brushed stainless steel.
  15. Well that was a pain. Eventually got something that looks like it work. Not sure how to cut a clean circle in the edge of a roof to create the cricket. Any easy tricks?
  16. Archicad has the edit marquee I believe which also allowed multiple users to edit the same plan as they "checked-out" a 3D marqueed area. Very nice. At least an option to limit by floor level might be nice too.
  17. Is the an option to mull cabinets together like windows and doors in X7?
  18. Just saw a video on creating a domed roof. I assume the person used an automated roof, but never said. It worked well, BUT the auto-roof tool places a roof on my entire project which has a roof already. I am working on a round tower on the forth floor where there are no other roofs. I tried this on a blank plan before messing mine up with zillions of unwanted and wrong roof planes. different floor levels too. Can I limit the auto roof tool to a floor level? I would like the 9' diameter round tower to have a roof that is as round as Chief will allow which is 6 degree segments. Anyone?
  19. The deactivation thing is what I do now between computers for X6. So I might do the Beta at home then if I can find the time.
  20. I will likely be waiting for the Beta to clear out, but what steps might I want to take in making a smooth transition to X7? What happens to the library? What do you recommend for dealing with templates? Start fresh or use the old template file? Anything else? BTW, if I wanted to download the Beta on my Mac at home but not on my Win PC at work, Will this create any problems with activations?
