Sharing Wall Elevations With Acad Users? (2 Questions)
4hotshoez replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
I found a solution to one of my problems. There is a 1x8 band that separates the 1st and 2nd floors, but Chief does not draw the separation where I need it, because both floors have different types of siding material. So some of the 1st floor siding material was showing above the band. But I found that I can edit the wall joint in an elevation view and pull them both down to the top of the band. Cool! -
1. What is the best way to share interior wall elevations to Autocad users? 2. Also, Can I turn a cross-section/elevation into a 2D line drawing and place an un-linked line drawing back into Chief as a Cad detail? There are some anomalies in the building elevation that might be easier to fix if 2D.

While it is nice that I can group 2D CAD items together and preserve them, I cannot snap to or dimension to any lines within a CAD block, which is what makes them stupid. What is the alternative?
-
I found something that is ANNOYING that may have been around before me. I have created a few extra CAD layers for control. I noticed that when I set one of my CAD layers to be current, it will change back to CAD, Default if I go to the plan and back to look at something. I would like it to remember which ever layer I left it on, and not on some default.

This what I was saying in my original post. The icon changed. I selected the "Perpective Floor Overview" button and the button icon changed to "perspective FULL overview" BUG? -

Or better yet put it where it is needed and not buried. -

Maybe I should create another floor for the roof plan? -
Problem With X7 Perspective Overview Camera?

I closed all the windows but the plan and used the POC again and it did show correctly, but when I switched to the second floow the POC shows the roofs, which by the way are set up to show on the first floor for the roof plan drawing. BattjesPlan.plan -
I was needing to look at something on the second floor but got a full overview. Then went to the first floor to create a view and this is what it shows... I have never had an issue in x6 that required any setting changes. Even the icon changes. Bug?

Thanks Joe, I was using the Tools>Toolbars and Hotkeys>Create Hotkey List, which makes HTML

What about HOTKEYS: X6 saves as HTML X7 imports as XML How can I import my long hotkey list from X6 to X7?
-
Thanks, I have seen that a million times, and overlooked it as it has not been part of the regular process.

Macros and cheese? or a Big Mac-ro?

Ah this might help with the problem I have with "jumpy" foundation walls. More control means a better model. Curse that automation! Is there a way to change the units in the DBX to be feet and inches instead of inches? If so, I will place my next house up in the air at 100'-0" elevation. Thanks Scott for the insight.

More tools to learn about. Where might I find that one? I think I could use a tool finder tool.
-
Does not the break line tool just provide edit points? Which I have been doing to create complex shapes.
-
I have used a rectangular polyine to trace a cut cross-section, but I need to split it in two pieces. It is too complex to redraw.
-
I am worried about the slowness. But what about keyboard shortcuts?
-
I have a Mac-Mini (Mid-2011) with 8 gb ram and 2.3 ghz i5. It work fine. However, the upgrade to Yosemite slowed it down a lot. Your graphics card may be the weak link if your models get complex. I assume you will have a screen where ever you go if you intend this to be mobile?
-
This will be my first upgrade and I have several projects at different phases. I would like to take advantage of X7 now, but I have concerns that I might get caught in a corner with no time to fix anything. Aside from the time to down load X7, how much time and work is it to make the switch? Or can I just download and switch to X7 with a way back to X6 if I find I got in over my head for the amount of time I have? Do I need to re-download all of my libraries? What happens to all of my user libraries? What else might take time?
-
Yeah.
-
Yes, I did create some new layers that I had forgot about that the "All Layers Set" ignored. Easy fix. Thanks for the hint.
-
I am not sure what I need to do as I have created a wall section in one project and made a CAD Block to copy it over for another project, but I need to make some modifications to the Section for the other project. When I copy it in as a block it looks ok, but when I explode it to edit it, information disappears and all layers are on. Is this normal? What might I be doing wrong?

Why Is This Base In The Middle Of The Floor?
4hotshoez replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
I have not down loaded X7 yet. I was concerned about it being slow in 3D and I have a slow computer to begin with. Thanks for checking it out for me.
