Well done all you guy's here for your dogged determination to get CA to get this to look right. Yusuf is the stair guru for sure. AS is the man for difficult trouble shooting. Johnnys patience to get this to look right. When I was younger and sharper I was willing to tackle these problems. This Is what I mean about being able to isolate elements so they don't interact with each other and if they do you can give one element priority over another or be able to lock an element. If we could get CA to do something like this, we would save lots of trouble shooting time with similar problems.

I don't like messing with anno sets personally but I think that with X8 improvement I am happy.

Roof and wall conflict wont go away (X8 problem?)
mthd97 replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
Can't you just go into that particluar walls dbx and change the type of wall so that is doesn't pertrude into the roof space?....I have been using this method for years now or will this not work in this instance? -
Ditto Ben!..I think V6 is 99, V5 97.

BP this not a migration issue it it?

https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?playlist=118 The initial question was about what can be done in X8 with layers. See this whole video, as it shows what to do with displaying layer sets in layout views using X8, and see if this helps? I am sure your method is fine with past versions of CA, as we all have to find ways to get around our layer display problems. This shows it done with X8 and it might help the user. AS, if you watch this you may discern what is new for us and explain it too. My brain works more in visual format than in verbal description language, ha ha!

Watch the video on X8 first please AS to see what I am talking about.
-
Create your own specific layer sets from existing layer sets in X8 see webinar video.

Saw the webinar video on X8 features yesterday. Yes I am impressed with how this version will make life easier with Schedules, Layers, ML and SP vertical dimensioning etc. I am very much hoping for an IFC 3d model exchange feature in the future too.

I agree Lew. Joey, bulk buying would not likely account for nearly doubling the cost of the lock. CA Administration can tell us why?
-
Yeah, probably DJP, Ha ha!
-
I have noticed that the hardware lock has increased in price from $69.95 to $114.95 in a very short space of time. What has accounted for this large price jump please?

I thought you were having a dig at AS by saying the heat is getting to his head by him suggesting to do stairs manually? I was wrong but I got a giggle out of it anyway, ha ha ! Yes I hope it is Automatic and a very common stair type with the raise off middle stringer but they would need to include cleats to fill in the gaps. All the best mate !
-
We get enough heat downunder so it's good to keep cool heads. Yes the stair tool should be able to do what you have asked so we don't have to do it manually. Or can we do a stringerless stair case and put in a raked steel beam for now?

Lew, do you have library catalog files in the DVDs with X1, PD just might only need those. I remember there was a stack of DVDs with all the training and demos etc to buy with X1.
-
Nice one CA, X8 Catalogs, James Hardie sidings for the Aussies !
-
Yes 30 day grace period but a clear reminder before then is good.

Did you know you need to upgrade to latest version to get SSA?
-
SSA paid in good faith, 3D IFC, Platform Moving story pole system please for the future of CA and all of us too, thanks.
-
That's if they don't put the price up in the meantime?

True Graham, we choose and change software according to our needs and some do a better job than others with automation. The corner wall joint clean ups in the video 6066 should not slow us down in our work and the one SH fixed up was not the only one needing attention. With proper room definitions this flaw can be fixed easily I believe by the programmers?
-
Michael, did SH on video 6066 do thing's the required way in building his crawl space and garage?...Does the program know the difference between a room definition of Garage and Basement Garage or Crawl Space...What about building the Basement Garage stairs and the problems encountered along the way?...There is no way of learning that as a method is there?...I hope we don't have to enlist a garage dump dig to find an antique version of CA in 50 years time to play with, like they did with the ET version of the Atari game?
-
Too True Lew!...I will be back as I know they will eventually work on it for the future.

Hi to all you faithful Chiefers, I have just watched X8 demo Vid 6066. I would just like to say well done to you guys who have tenaciouly persisted with CA and have become adept at using it with all the work around techniques. This particular video illustrates my frustration with the current program. I am no longer willing to fight and persist with these illogical sequences anymore. I appreciate all the new features in X8. Underpinning a broken foundation is not my way of doing things. The automated system driving CA with its interrelated parts like stairs and other building parts simply gets too complicated as the design becomes more complicated with different floor levels. I can do all your work arounds and get the model to look right just as most of you can but I don't want to waste my time doing this anymore with this program. I have done a similar design with V10 and got the model to look right after hours of work arounds granted I would have less work around time with X8 but still too much for me. All the best I am not renewing my SSA this time but may do so in the future if the area of the program I am not happy with gets fixed. Having said that, CAX8 has allot of good things going for it like Cabinets, fast building of terrain, framing, schedules and many other things too. If you want to refer to our disscusions on story poles or moving of platform's, this is the area I am awaiting for more work to be done, not just on SP dimensions. Thanks.

When the NDA period is over would be fine, SSA will get Beta version soon too.
