  1. I have been trying to set my default dimensions and think I've got them all screwed up. Being a design build company where 95% of our work is remodels I am always having to go in and do preliminary space measurements and they are always from drywall to drywall or from finished floor to ceiling drywall. Even when we do a room addition the homeowner is usually more concerned about the interior size versus the exterior.   I t would make it easier on me to set it up this way but know what setting to change to reference framing, brick ,etc.   If i use the interior dimention tool i get the drywall to drywall but the temp dimensions are all over the place.  See attached.   I searched the forum first but didn't find the exact answer i was looking for or it was from years ago for previous 10 or X1 versions

  2. That was I was asking for ways that it could be done.   I know how to build (frame) a dome ceiling.  I just didn't know how to create one in CA. In fact for this project the dome ceiling is already there but I need to show it in the as built because it will remain in place.  thanks

  3. I found a quick very rough work around.  I used the "Awning (Rounded Dome) from the core library, flipped it up on end, sized it for half the radius, made a copy and joined them together, made it a block then sat it on top of the hole I have in the ceiling.  Crude but it did work.

  4. Has anyone ever inserted a dome ceiling?  See photo.  I tried using a polyline circle and converted to hole in ceiling which cut my hole fine.  I found a geometric dome shape in the library that I thought I could sit it on top to get the look.  However the dome has a bottom so that was a no go.

  5. Does anyone know what setting to change so when you select a wall it will show the dimensions on the interior not the exterior.  Or with an interior wall with angles to show measurements on either side. See the attached screen prints.  Thanks  Rob

  6. I am having issues with copying my user library to another PC (Laptop)  I have tried a couple ways. First using a flash drive, I go to docs then copy the entire Chief Architect Premier X7 Data folder.  Copy it to my laptop. I have coped over the existing folder on the laptop and also have tried deleting the complete date folder then copied the new data folder.  I have also copied it to  a network drive and copied.  Ive also tried to copy just the Database Library.  All folders copy over but I am missing most of the textures.  See attached screen print.  I need to keep my PC and laptop libraries the same.

  7. So much for that idea then.  CA has made great advances since 8.0 but it seems tile with patterns has always been lacking. There are core and bonus tiles in the library where the texture and the pattern don't match.  where they do have random stack glass tile but the pattern shows it as either straight of brick/subway.  With several of the random stacked veneer stone the pattern matches the texture pretty good so not sure why it could not be done with tile versus having a different pattern or in most cases no pattern file at all.  Above my pay grade.

  8. I know.. I've been doing this for years and would like to have a less time consuming way. For black & white wall tile in elevation views it would be nice to be able to apply a fill pattern to a polyline or slab like you can in plan view. When it comes to install, it would be much more helpful to be able to have the correct pattern versus a pretty rendering.  I would assume a custom fill pattern can be imported???

  9. Decrease the cabinet height by 1/16" of an inch but keep the countertop at the same height. Basically the bottom of the cabinet is 1/16" off the floor where you would not notice and you're not increasing the width.

  10. I have set up polyline solids with multiple colors and placed them in the Cabinet Wall, Base, etc layer.  I use these when I want to specify how and where I want to have a custom finished bottom to a cabinet.

  11. We use a lot of glass deco tile in our designs and I could really use tiles that have not only a texture but the pattern file of these randomly stack tiles.  I know the library has stacked glass tiles in the bonus tile ?glass Strip tile" with a random texture but the pattern does not have the random layout, heights or lengths.  Also I have several large format tiles we install on a brick pattern (We very seldom install tile on a standard straight pattern) but again there is no pattern included.  All this is a must for me to show an exact row by row tile layout for the homeowners and my installers.  I also, when needed will go to the job site and do a full scale tile layout. Would be a lot easier to have the exact layout in the plans with the correct textures and patterns.   See attached examples of tiles we use, no pattern tiles and my layout samples.  Any thoughts?  Thanks bunches.  Rob

  12. Is it possible to add additional icons to the Tool Palette. For example "Electrical" has 110V Outlet, Light, Switch, etc.  I would like to add other commonly used default electrical devices. I have the "Light" set as a 5" LED recessed can. I would like to have an icon for a standard ceiling mounted light, wall sconce, cabinet mounted outlet and so on.  Maybe???  See attached

    Thanks

  13. I keep having a horrible time with the new X7 tool bars.  They keep changing or disappearing on me with me changing any settings.  The tool palette box does not correspond to the tool icon I select and I keep losing the Edit tool bar across the bottom.  I keep having to right click on an item and select the edit selection from the pull down list which is a pain.  This keep happening right in the middle of drawing standard plans as usual. I searched the forum and found to go to Prefs / Reset Option and use the Reset Side Windows but that doesn't help with the tool palette or edit tool bar.  See attached.

    Thanks

  14. I kinda went overboard thinking of the future and not having to upgrade anytime soon and went with Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690  4GB Graphics Cards. Once set up, there's not much it cant do.  Repeating what has been said, you must think about the best "multi"-core processor you can afford.  You can always change out / upgrade the graphics card later if needed if your not using a laptop.

  15. Does anyone know if its possible to rename the the parts of a symbol that was imported?  Say for a light fixture that has an imported part name of "cb6ejfaj66n4ldc98b54hs" to be able to change that to lets say Light Shade or Fixture Canopy.  See attached.

    Thanks

  16. Rob, I made that light for you... maybe a some things a bit off, but it should be close enough. If you want me to change something let me know I have the model saved so it should be a problem, just had a long day today. Picture is attached if you can use it, enjoy it.

Good Morning Greg...  I met with the homeowners last night to review their bath design and they wanted to change their lighting selection from the single 4 light that you made for me to a three light fixture, a two light fixture with a few matching sconce lights from the same series as the four light. Would it be possible for you to create these and I would be happy to pay you fore your time.  I have attached the fixture pics.  Thank you bunches.  Rob

  17. I'm one of those Type A gotta be exact types. I go WAY overboard sometimes with the details but guys like my tile installer absolutely loves the layouts.  I even go one step further with full scale models of my tile designs for them to use.  We have never had to tear out tile because it was installed wrong.  See attached
